Grec Festival

This year, the Grec Festival of Barcelona is organizing its 40th edition by celebrating the anniversary of an author, who in 2015 would have been one hundred years. “The Crucible” opens the 2016 festival (Teatre Grec; 1-5 July).

If you are crazy about street dance, you must see (30 July at the Teatre Grec) the combination of talents of the Brodas Bros and the Brincadeira percussion company in a performance entitled Brinca Bros.
Music will take on a leading role at the Teatre Grec, where artists range from Estrella Morente (10 July) or Mayte Martín (22 July) to Benjamin Clementine (12 July), Jorge Drexler (13 July), Myles Sanko (13 July) or the Manel on the last day of the festival, who will play tracks from their latest album, Jo competeixo (31 July).
There will be music at many venues:  from the Jamboree which will host great jazz artists (from 1 to 23 July) to the Harlem Jazz Club where music will sound by Tori Sparks and Calamento (7 July) and by Ray Cuza and the Septeto Sazonando de Cuba (28 July).  The Sala BARTS will be filled with indie and folk sounds, including Lucy Rose (5 July), Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats (6 July) and William Fitzsimmons (14 July). Other artists performing at this venue are Lola Montoya (8 July), Gustavo Cordera from Argentina (9 July) and the guitarist, Steve Vai (21 July).
The Teatre Grec Gardens will once again be the venue for small concerts with emerging bands and artists from the Catalan music scene. On 26 June, a presentation will be held of MiniGrec, a theater cycle for all the family, which this year includes six theater, dance and theater of object events for children.
Plaça de Margarida Xirgu will be the setting for free performances for everyone, such as the Orquestra Plateria (30 June) and Chico Trujillo (31 July), a dance (and football) show  La Partida (21 and 22 July) by the Vero Cendoya Company and performances by La Central del Circ (7 and 8 July). The venue will even hold the artistic installation of Jordi Galí and the Compagnie Arrangement Provisoire, which on 5 July, will construct a momentary structure in the heart of the square.
