Birel ART decided to seize the opportunity to prepare for the first round of the FIA Karting European Championships – OK and OK-Junior by participating in the French OK Championship and the French Cup for OK-Junior held two weeks before at the Angerville circuit (FRA).
“It was an opportunity not to be missed!” said Luca Filini, team manager of Birel ART Racing. “The FFSA now applies the FIA regulations, which allowed us to run in European configuration at Angerville. It was important training for our drivers who did not know this French circuit, very different from the Italian tracks where they are used to racing. The use of LeCont tyres in OK, a first this year, was a realistic test for us. The team was also able to gather some interesting data for the European Championship. I am particularly pleased with the good result for Maya Weug who finished 7th in OK. Although our Junior drivers were less successful, the level of performance of our OK-Juniors was very encouraging for Cristian Bertuca and Eliott Vayron.”
Qualifying 26th, Maya Weug, one of the two drivers selected by the Richard Mille Young Talent Academy, proved effective in the rain of the Prefinal before showing her speed in the Final. At the moment showing performance not far from the best, Maya completed a good rise of 11 places to 7th position of the French OK Championship.
Cristian Bertuca was delayed by various issues before winning two convincing heats. Too far back to hope to qualify, he made up for it by winning the League Cup, a kind of B Final. Elliott Vayron was also very fast. After an unsuccessful Qualifying and a retirement in the first heat, he showed great potential in his second heat, achieving the fastest lap in the race and regaining 19 places. The experience was useful for other young drivers like Julia Ayoub and Andrea Frassinetti who will arrive better armed for the opening of the European Championship in less than two weeks.
Preparazione europea ad Angerville
Birel ART aveva deciso di cogliere l’opportunità di preparare bene la prima prova dei Campionati europei FIA Karting OK e OK-Junior partecipando al Campionato di Francia OK e alla Coppa di Francia OK-Junior organizzati due settimane prima sul circuito di Angerville (FRA).
“Era un’occasione da non perdere!”, ha confessato Luca Filini, team manager di Birel ART Racing. “La FFSA applica ormai il regolamento FIA, ciò che ci ha consentito di girare ad Angerville in configurazione europea. Si è trattato un allenamento importante per i nostri piloti che non conoscevano il circuito francese, molto diverso da quelli italiani dove sono abituati a correre. L’uso degli pneumatici LeCont nella OK, una prima quest’anno, è stato per noi un test di grande importanza. Il team ha anche potuto prendere dei punti di riferimento in vista dell’Europa. Sono particolarmente soddisfatto dell’ottimo risultato di Maya Weug che ha terminato al settimo posto nella OK. Anche se i piloti Junior hanno avuto risultati meno positivi, il livello di performance dei nostri OK-Junior è stato molto incoraggiante per Cristian Bertuca ed Eliott Vayron.”
Qualificata al 26° nelle prove cronometrate, Maya Weug, uno dei due piloti donna selezionati dalla Richard Mille Young Talent Academy, si è rivelata efficace sotto la pioggia della prefinale prima di mostrare la sua velocità durante la finale. Realizzando in quel momento delle performance non lontano dai migliori, Maya ha fatto una bella rimonta di undici posizioni fino a raggiungere la settima nel Campionato di Francia OK.
Cristian Bertuca è stato rallentato da diversi problemi prima di fare due manche convincenti. Troppo lontano per sperare di qualificarsi, ha recuperato vincendo con grande vantaggio la Coupe de la Ligue, una specie di finale B. Anche Elliot Vayron è stato veloce. Dopo le prove cronometrate un po’ deludenti e un ritiro nella prima manche, ha mostrato un bel potenziale nella seconda manche realizzando il giro più veloce in gara e rimontando di diciannove posizioni. L’esperienza è stata proficua per gli altri giovani come Julia Ayoub e Andrea Frassinetti che si presenteranno più forti che mai tra meno di due settimane per l’apertura del Campionato europeo.

Birel ART avait décidé de saisir l’opportunité de bien préparer la première épreuve des Championnats d’Europe FIA Karting OK et OK-Junior en participant au Championnat de France OK et à la Coupe de France OK-Junior organisés deux semaines à l’avance sur le circuit d’Angerville (FRA).
« C’était une occasion à ne pas manquer ! », confiait Luca Filini, team manager Birel ART Racing. « La FFSA applique désormais la réglementation FIA, ce qui nous a permis de rouler en configuration européenne à Angerville. C’était un entraînement important pour nos pilotes qui ne connaissaient pas ce circuit français, bien différent des pistes italiennes où ils ont l’habitude de rouler. L’utilisation des pneus LeCont en OK, une première cette année, constituait un test grandeur nature pour nous. L’équipe a également pu prendre des repères intéressants en vue de l’Europe. Je suis particulièrement satisfait du bon résultat de Maya Weug qui a terminé 7e en OK. Si les pilotes Junior ont connu moins de réussite, le niveau de performances de nos OK-Junior était très encourageant du côté de Cristian Bertuca et d’Eliott Vayron. »

Après des essais chronométrés peu réussis et un abandon en 1re manche, il affichait un beau potentiel dans sa 2e manche en réalisant le meilleur tour en course et en regagnant 19 places. L’expérience était profitable pour les autres jeunes comme Julia Ayoub et Andrea Frassinetti qui arriveront mieux armés dans moins de deux semaines pour l’ouverture du Championnat d’Europe.
