For this 2019 season, the tyre manufacturer LeCont won the latest tender launched by the FIA Karting to equip the OK category in the biggest international competitions.
The European Championship started at the Angerville circuit with the French Kart Grand Prix, where the tyres of the Italian brand, in their “Prime” version, gave complete satisfaction to the 66 drivers present.
A partner of FIA Karting since 2011, equipped with a high-tech factory and recognised for the quality of its products, the LeCont brand has contributed greatly to the sporting success of the opening round of the European OK Championship. “Seeing the drivers, the teams, the international federation and the satisfied organisers during a meeting remains our priority,” says Paolo Bombara, marketing manager at LeCont. “For this, we have to provide homologated tyres that bring performance, consistency and safety to all participants. For us, after a convincing experience in KZ, KZ2 and the Academy Trophy in 2018, rejoining the OK category that we supplied in 2017 was very satisfying. I really like the technical definition of this formula, with its direct drive engines and its drivers who include stars of karting and young talents representing the future hopes of motorsport. It’s exciting to watch.”
Very fast lap times
Many positive things have emerged from this first meeting of the season. Starting with the performance! With the best Qualifying time of 48 “795, Spain’s Pedro Hiltbrand lapped 5 tenths faster than the pole position achieved by a KZ2 driver a few weeks earlier. In addition, the window during which the tyres provide optimum performance was wide enough, allowing the drivers to achieve their best time on their third or fourth lap, or even the sixth or seventh!
“As always, LeCont ensures that tyres of the same quality are delivered to all drivers,” says Bombara. “That’s how, in Qualifying, we saw nearly 50 drivers grouped in less than 5 tenths! Then, many of them were able to compete in their five Qualifying Heats with the same set of tyres thanks to a wear level that I will describe as quite normal, considering this very high level of competition and the intensity of the races that the drivers showed us.”
The weather remained fine at Angerville, not requiring the use of wet tyres, to which LeCont also attaches great importance. “Our wet tire is not the fastest, but it has the distinction of being very consistent and durable. Even when the track dries up, the rubber wears less than other brands. In any case, if it rains this season, all drivers will be equipped in the same brand with our tyres homologated by the CIK-FIA since 2017. These will give way, from next year, to a brand new model, also very durable but with better performance.”
Patterson wins in front of Valtanen and Minì
During the entire meeting, the gaps remained very small between the contenders for the podium. Scotsman Dexter Patterson took the lead at the end of the heats and held on to the Final, despite pressure from Italy’s Gabriele Minì and Finland’s Juho Valtanen, while Britain’s Taylor Barnard remained very competitive, close to the leading group. “We noticed that the top 15 of the Final were from 13 different teams, which is the proof that the usage of our “Prime” tyres did not pose any problems, for the drivers or for the technicians. The extensive positive feedback I received on Sunday evening confirmed this observation.”
“I would like to congratulate all the participants for their performance, and also to congratulate the FFSA who had the good idea of organising a big national race at Angerville two weeks before this event with the same tyres as the European Championship. At the same time, it is a good way to ensure the promotion of OK at ASN level, especially as this situation will be repeated in July at Le Mans just before the Final of the FIA Karting European Championship.”

Successo sportivo e tecnico di LeCont ad Angerville
Per questa stagione 2019, il produttore di pneumatici LeCont si è aggiudicato una nuova gara di appalto lanciata dalla FIA Karting e sarà il fornitore della categoria OK nelle maggiori competizioni internazionali. Il Campionato europeo è iniziato sul circuito di Angerville in occasione del Kart Grand Prix of France, dove gli pneumatici del marchio italiano, nella loro versione “Prime”, hanno soddisfatto appieno i 66 piloti presenti.
Partner della FIA Karting dal 2011, dotato di una fabbrica tecnologicamente avanzata e riconosciuto per la qualità dei suoi prodotti, il marchio LeCont ha ampiamente contribuito al grande successo sportivo dell’apertura del Campionato europeo OK. “Vedere i piloti, i team, la federazione internazionale e gli organizzatori soddisfatti durante il meeting, è sempre la nostra priorità”, ricorda Paolo Bombara, responsabile marketing di LeCont. “Per questo, è nostro dovere fornire degli pneumatici omologati che offrano prestazioni, costanza e sicurezza a tutti i partecipanti. Per noi, dopo un’esperienza convincente nella KZ, KZ2 e Academy Trophy nel 2018, ritornare nella categoria OK di cui eravamo fornitori nel 2017 è stata una vera soddisfazione. Mi piace molto la definizione tecnica di questa formula, con i suoi motori a presa diretta e l’organico che raggruppa dei riferimenti del karting e dei giovani talenti che rappresentano le future speranze degli sport motoristici. È appassionante seguirla.”
Tempi sul giro molto veloci
Sicuramente sono molte le cose positive emerse in occasione di questo primo appuntamento della stagione. A cominciare dalle performance! Facendo segnare il miglior tempo nelle qualifiche con 48”795, lo spagnolo Pedro Hiltbrand ha girato cinque decimi più veloce della pole position conquistata da un pilota della categoria KZ2 alcune settimane prima. Inoltre, l’intervallo in cui gli pneumatici forniscono performance ottimali era abbastanza ampio e ha permesso ai piloti di realizzare il miglior tempo anche al terzo o quarto giro e persino al sesto o al settimo!
“Come ogni volta, LeCont cerca di fornire pneumatici della stessa qualità a tutti i piloti”, prosegue Paolo Bombara. “È così che al termine delle prove cronometrate c’erano quasi 50 piloti in meno di cinque decimi” Poi molti di loro hanno potuto disputare le loro cinque manche di qualificazione con lo stesso treno di gomme grazie a un’usura che qualificherei assolutamente normale considerando l’alto livello di competizione e l’intensità delle gare che i piloti hanno proposto.”
Il meteo ad Angerville è stato clemente e non si è reso necessario l’uso degli pneumatici da pioggia ai quali LeCont attribuisce una grande importanza. “I nostri pneumatici da pioggia non sono i più veloci ma hanno la particolarità di essere costanti e avere un minore livello di usura. Anche quando la pista si asciuga, il nostro pneumatico si consuma meno rispetto a quelli degli altri produttori. In ogni caso se durante la stagione dovesse piovere, tutti i piloti saranno nelle stesse condizioni con i nostri pneumatici omologati CIK-FIA dal 2017. Questi ultimi lasceranno il posto, a partire dall’anno prossimo, a un nuovissimo modello anch’esso soggetto a minore usura, ma più performante.”
Patterson s’impone davanti a Valtanen e Minì
Nel corso di tutto il meeting, i distacchi sono stati minimi tra i candidati al podio. Lo scozzese Dexter Patterson è andato al comando al termine delle manche e ha mantenuto la posizione in finale, nonostante la pressione prima dell’italiano Gabriele Minì e poi del finlandese Juho Valtanen, mentre l’inglese Taylor Barnard è rimasto molto vicino al gruppo di testa. “Abbiamo notato che i primi quindici della finale appartenevano a tredici squadre diverse: questo dimostra che la gestione dei nostri pneumatici “Prime” non ha presentato problemi né per i piloti né per i tecnici. I numerosi feedback positivi che ho ricevuto domenica sera confermano questa affermazione.”
“Vorrei complimentarmi con tutti partecipanti per la loro performance, ma anche con la FFSA che ha avuto l’ottima idea di organizzare una grande gara nazionale sul circuito di Angerville due settimane prima di questo evento con gli stessi pneumatici del Campionato europeo. Al contempo è un ottimo modo per assicurare la promozione della OK a livello delle ASN soprattutto perché questa situazione si ripeterà in luglio a Le Mans proprio prima della finale di questo Campionato europeo FIA Karting.”

Réussite sportive et technique pour LeCont à Angerville
Pour cette saison 2019, le manufacturier de pneumatiques LeCont a remporté un nouvel appel d’offres lancé par la FIA Karting et équipe la catégorie OK dans les plus grandes compétitions internationales. Le Championnat d’Europe a démarré sur le circuit d’Angerville à l’occasion du Kart Grand Prix de France, où les pneumatiques de la marque italienne, dans leur version “Prime”, ont donné entière satisfaction aux 66 pilotes présents.
Partenaire de la FIA Karting depuis 2011, dotée d’une usine de haute technologie et reconnue pour la qualité de ses produits, la marque LeCont a largement contribué au grand succès sportif de l’ouverture du Championnat d’Europe OK. “Voir les pilotes, les teams, la fédération internationale et les organisateurs satisfaits durant un meeting, cela reste notre priorité,” rappelle Paolo Bombara, responsable marketing chez LeCont. “Pour cela, nous nous devons de fournir des pneumatiques homologués apportant performances, constance et sécurité à tous les participants. Pour nous, après une expérience convaincante en KZ, KZ2 et Trophée Académie en 2018, retrouver la catégorie OK que nous avons équipée en 2017 était une réelle satisfaction. J’aime beaucoup la définition technique de cette formule, avec ses moteurs à prise directe et son effectif qui regroupe des références du karting et des jeunes talents représentants les futurs espoirs du sport automobile. C’est passionnant à suivre.”
Des temps au tour très rapides
Assurément, beaucoup de choses positives ont émergé de ce premier rendez-vous de la saison. A commencer par les performances ! En réalisant le meilleur temps des qualifications en 48”795, l’Espagnol Pedro Hiltbrand a tourné 5 dixièmes plus vite que la pole position réalisée par un pilote de la catégorie KZ2 quelques semaines plus tôt. En outre, la fenêtre durant laquelle les gommes fournissent une performance optimum était assez large, permettant aux pilotes de réaliser leur meilleur chrono aussi bien au 3e ou au 4e tour, voire au 6e ou au 7e !
“Comme à chaque fois, LeCont veille à livrer des pneumatiques de qualité identique à tous les pilotes,” poursuit Paolo Bombara. “C’est ainsi qu’aux chronos, on retrouvait près de 50 pilotes regroupés en moins de 5 dixièmes ! Ensuite, beaucoup d’entre eux ont pu disputer leurs cinq manches qualificatives avec le même train de pneumatiques grâce à une usure que je qualifierai de tout à fait normale, eu égard à ce très haut niveau de compétition et de l’intensité des courses que les pilotes nous ont proposée.”
Le temps est resté clément à Angerville, ne nécessitant pas l’utilisation des pneumatiques pluie, pour lesquels LeCont attache également une grande importance. “Notre pneu pluie n’est pas le plus rapide, mais il a la particularité d’être très constant et endurant. Même lorsque la piste s’assèche, la gomme s’use d’une manière moindre que d’autres marques. Dans tous les cas, s’il vient à pleuvoir cette saison, tous les pilotes seront logés à la même enseigne avec nos pneumatiques homologués CIK-FIA depuis 2017. Ces derniers laisseront place, à partir de l’an prochain, à un tout nouveau modèle, également très endurant mais plus performant.”
Patterson s’impose devant Valtanen et Minì
Durant tout le meeting, les écarts sont restés très serrés entre les candidats au podium. L’Écossais Dexter Patterson a pris le leadership de la manifestation à l’issue des manches et a tenu bon en finale, malgré la pression successive de l’Italien Gabriele Minì puis du Finlandais Juho Valtanen, tandis que le Britannique Taylor Barnard est resté très proche du groupe de tête. “On remarque que les 15 premiers de la finale étaient issus de 13 teams différents, c’est la preuve que l’exploitation de nos pneumatiques “Prime” n’a pas posé de problèmes, tant pour les pilotes que pour les techniciens. Les nombreux retours positifs que j’ai reçus le dimanche soir confirment ce constat.”
“Je tiens à saluer tous les participants pour leur prestation, mais aussi à féliciter la FFSA qui a eu la bonne idée d’organiser une grande course nationale sur ce circuit d’Angerville deux semaines avant cet événement avec les mêmes pneumatiques qu’au Championnat d’Europe. Par la même occasion, c’est une bonne façon d’assurer la promotion du OK au niveau des ASN, surtout que cette situation se répétera en juillet au Mans juste avant le final de ce Championnat d’Europe FIA Karting.”
