Birel ART Racing showed very convincing performance levels at the Lonato circuit in the WSK Euro Series, both in KZ2 with Marijn Kremers and Riccardo Longhi, as well as in OK with Luigi Coluccio and OK-Junior with Rafael Camara.
Kremers was able to shine up until the end of the Final with a superb 2nd place that earned him a 3rd place finish in the WSK Euro Series.
The third round of the WSK Euro Series was an important event for the gearbox karts on the South Garda Karting track, where the KZ World Championship and the KZ2 International Super Cup, two world-wide FIA Karting competitions, will take place. The WSK Promotion meeting took place in beautiful and increasingly warm weather with lively races where incidents tempered the ambitions of some drivers.
“We had the satisfaction of showing a very good level of competitiveness,” said Luca Filini, Team Manager of Birel ART Racing. “Our top three drivers in KZ2 were very close to the pace of the best. Kremers proved it by going back to 2nd place while Longhi and Irlando lost ground in racing incidents. We are undeniably on the right track and we will still be working hard until the world meeting in September. Coluccio saw his good progress in OK stop during a Prefinal incident, while Rafael Camara had a good performance in OK-Junior.”
Kremers on the podium and 3rd in the KZ2 standings
Marijn Kremers started strongly with the 2nd fastest time of the 80 KZ2 drivers present at Lonato. With three 2nd places and a fastest lap in the Qualifying Heats, he was making the most of the potential of his Birel ART / TM kart with Bridgestone tyres. Kremers improved again in the Prefinal and fought with great conviction to reach the second step of the Final podium by narrowing the gap with the winner in the final laps. This excellent result allowed him to make a spectacular jump from 8th to 3rd place in the final standings of the WSK Euro Series.
Also very fast since the beginning of the competition, Riccardo Longhi was fighting in 6th position of the Final when a collision dropped him to the back of the pack in the last third of the race. He still managed to finish 6th in the WSK Euro Series. Alessandro Irlando ensured two great heats before facing setbacks. However, he managed to finish in the top 10 of the Final as well as the overall classification.
Too many incidents in OK
Luigi Coluccio was one of the protagonists of the OK category. In 8th place of the 51 participants after the Qualifying Heats, he could logically anticipate a good qualification for the Final. Unfortunately, a puncture in Prefinal B caused him to progressively lose ground and he could not finish the race. Andrea Rosso was 12th in the Prefinal after Qualifying stages which were not always simple, but he was eliminated on the first lap of the Final after a contact. Nikita Artmonov qualified thanks to good consistency in the heats, but he was also forced to retire in the Final.
Good start in OK-Junior for Camara
Rafael Camara had three good Qualifying Heats in the top three after his very good 4th fastest time among more than 70 drivers. He then had some problems before being able to react in the Final and reach 12th place, while Cristian Bertuca qualified on the 12th row for the Final.
Lonato: Kremers a un passo dalla vittoria
Birel ART Racing ha dimostrato un livello di perfomance molto convincente sul circuito di Lonato in occasione della WSK Euro Series, sia nella KZ2 con Marijn Kremers e Riccardo Longhi sia nella OK con Luigi Coluccio o nella OK-Junior con Rafael Camara. Kremers ha potuto mettersi in evidenza fino alla fine della finale con una straordinaria seconda posizione che gli è valsa il terzo posto nella classifica WSK Euro Series.
La terza prova della WSK Euro Series si è rivelata un appuntamento importante per i kart con cambio che disputeranno, sul tracciato del South Garda Karting, il Campionato mondiale KZ e l’International Super Cup KZ2, due gare FIA Karting di livello mondiale. Il meeting della WSK Promotion si è svolto sotto un sole sempre più caldo con gare molto animate dove gli incidenti hanno contribuito a smorzare le ambizioni di alcuni.
“Abbiamo avuto la soddisfazione di mostrare un ottimo livello di competitività”, ha dichiarato Luca Filini, Team Manager di Birel ART Racing. “I nostri tre piloti di punta nella KZ2 erano molto vicini al passo dei migliori. Kremers l’ha ampiamente dimostrato rimontando fino al secondo posto finale, mentre Longhi e Irlando hanno perso terreno in occasione di alcuni incidenti di gara. Siamo innegabilmente sulla buona strada e lavoreremo ancora duro fino all’appuntamento mondiale in programma il prossimo settembre. Coluccio ha purtroppo interrotto il suo ottimo percorso nella OK a causa di un incidente nella prefinale, mentre Rafael Camara ha fatto delle belle performance nella OK-Junior.”
Kremers sul podio e terzo nella classifica KZ2
Marijn Kremers ha iniziato alla grande con il secondo tempo degli 80 piloti KZ2 presenti a Lonato. Con tre secondi posti e un giro veloce nelle manche di qualificazione, ha utilizzato al meglio il potenziale del suo Birel ART/TM con pneumatici Bridgestone. Kremers ha migliorato ancora in prefinale e si è battuto con molta convinzione per raggiungere il secondo gradino del podio finale riducendo il distacco con il vincitore negli ultimi giri. Questo eccellente risultato gli ha permesso di fare un balzo spettacolare dall’ottavo al terzo posto nella classifica finale della WSK Euro Series.
Riccardo Longhi, anche lui molto veloce sin dall’inizio della competizione, si è ritrovato in fondo al gruppo nell’ultimo terzo di gara in finale a causa di un contatto mentre stava lottando in sesta posizione. Nonostante tutto è riuscito a concludere al sesto posto della WSK Euro Series. Alessandro Irlando dopo due belle manche ha dovuto affrontare una serie di contrattempi. È riuscito comunque a concludere nella Top-10 della finale e della classifica generale.
Troppi incidenti nella OK
Luigi Coluccio faceva parte dei protagonisti della categoria OK. Ottavo dei 51 partecipanti dopo le manche di qualificazione, poteva ovviamente prevedere una buona qualificazione per la finale. Purtroppo, a causa di un pneumatico perforato in prefinale B, ha perso progressivamente terreno e non ha potuto concludere la gara. Andrea Rosso è stato protagonista di una rimonta fino al dodicesimo posto in finale dopo delle fasi di qualificazione non sempre facili, ma è stato eliminato subito al primo giro della finale a causa di un contatto. Nikita Artmonov si è qualificato grazie alla sua regolarità nelle manche, ma anche lui è stato costretto al ritiro in finale.
Ottimo inizio gara nella OK-Junior per Camara.
Rafael Camara ha realizzato tre ottime manche di qualificazione nella Top-3 dopo l’ottimo quarto tempo ottenuto tra oltre 70 piloti in gara. Ha poi avuto qualche problema prima di poter reagire in finale e raggiungere il dodicesimo posto, mentre Cristian Bertuca si è qualificato in dodicesima fila per la finale.
Kremers tout près de la victoire à Lonato
Birel ART Racing a montré un degré de performance très convaincant sur le circuit de Lonato à l’occasion de la WSK Euro Series, aussi bien en KZ2 avec Marijn Kremers et Riccardo Longhi, qu’en OK avec Luigi Coluccio ou en OK-Junior avec Rafael Camara. Kremers a pu briller jusqu’au terme de la finale avec une superbe 2e position qui lui valait de terminer 3e du classement de la WSK Euro Series.
La 3e épreuve de la WSK Euro Series constituait un rendez-vous important pour les karts à boîte de vitesses qui disputeront sur le tracé de South Garda Karting le Championnat du Monde KZ et la Super Coupe Internationale KZ2, deux compétitions FIA Karting d’envergure mondiale. Le meeting de la WSK Promotion s’est déroulé sous un beau temps de plus en plus chaud avec des courses très animées dans lesquelles les incidents n’ont pas manqué de tempérer les ambitions de certains.
« Nous avons eu la satisfaction d’afficher un très bon niveau de compétitivité », déclarait Luca Filini, le Team Manager de Birel ART Racing. « Nos trois pilotes de pointe en KZ2 étaient très proches du rythme des meilleurs. Kremers l’a largement prouvé en remontant à la 2e place finale alors que Longhi et Irlando ont perdu du terrain lors de faits de course. Nous sommes indéniablement sur la bonne voie et nous allons encore travailler dur d’ici le rendez-vous mondial de septembre prochain. Coluccio a vu son bon parcours en OK s’interrompre lors d’un incident en préfinale, tandis que Rafael Camara réussissait de belles performances en OK-Junior. »
Kremers sur le podium et P3 au classement KZ2
Marijn Kremers démarrait fort avec le 2e chrono des 80 pilotes KZ2 présents à Lonato. Avec trois 2es places et un meilleur tour dans les manches qualificatives, il utilisait au mieux le potentiel de son ensemble Birel ART/TM avec les pneus Bridgestone. Kremers améliorait encore en préfinale et se battait avec beaucoup de conviction pour atteindre la 2e marche du podium final en réduisant l’écart avec le vainqueur dans les derniers tours. Cet excellent résultat lui permettait de faire un bond spectaculaire de la 8e à la 3e position au classement final de la WSK Euro Series.
Lui aussi très rapide depuis le début de la compétition, Riccardo Longhi se battait en 6e position de la finale quand un accrochage l’a fait chuter en fin de peloton dans le dernier tiers de la course. Il parvenait malgré tout à terminer 6e de la WSK Euro Series. Alessandro Irlando assurait quant à lui deux belles manches avant de faire face à des contretemps. Il réussissait cependant à terminer dans le top 10 de la finale comme du classement général.
Trop d’incidents en OK
Luigi Coluccio faisait partie des protagonistes de la catégorie OK. Au 8e rang des 51 participants après des manches qualificatives, il pouvait logiquement envisager une bonne qualification pour la finale. Malheureusement, un pneu perforé en préfinale B lui faisaient perdre progressivement du terrain et il ne pouvait terminer la course. Andrea Rosso était revenu 12e en préfinale après des phases qualificatives pas toujours simples, mais il était éliminé dès le 1er tour de la finale lors d’un contact. Nikita Artmonov s’était qualifié grâce à une bonne régularité dans les manches, mais il était lui aussi contraint à l’abandon en finale.
Bon début de course en OK-Junior pour Camara
Rafael Camara réussissait trois belles manches qualificatives dans le top 3 après son très bon 4e chrono obtenu parmi plus de 70 pilotes. Il rencontrait ensuite quelques problèmes avant de pouvoir réagir en finale et atteindre la 12e place, tandis que Cristian Bertuca se qualifiait en 12e ligne pour la finale.
