After his victory in the Dubai O-Plate, Suleiman Zanfari shone again by mounting the second step of the podium of the MENA Nations Cup which took place in mid-February in Muscat, Oman.
As a result of the involvement of several ASNs in the region, the MENA Karting Championship has gained momentum with the support of the FIA. This major event for the Middle East and North Africa zone took place from 10th to 14th February 2020 at the Muscat Raceway, in parallel with the FIA regional congress in Muscat in the presence of FIA President Jean Todt and FIA Vice-President for the MENA region, Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
“I would like to mention in particular the MENA Karting Championship, organised this year in tandem with the congress in Oman, with 15 countries represented at the Nations Cup,” Jean Todt said. “Financed by the FIA’s sporting grants programme, this is the first new regional event since the creation of the Middle East Rally Championship in the early 1980s. As we know, the importance of karting cannot be underestimated as a stepping stone to other motor sport disciplines, so I congratulate the MENA region for organising such an event.”
This innovative competition brought together the best drivers from North Africa and the Middle East for a sporting confrontation between national teams at the wheel of Birel ART karts with Rotax engines, which were strictly randomly allocated production models. Morocco fielded six drivers: one Mini Max, two Junior Max including Suleiman, one Senior Max, one DD2 Max and one in Elite Sprint.
Suleiman stood out with first-class performances on the Muscat track. Pole position holder in the Junior Rotax class, he won all three Qualifying Heats and also won the Prefinal. Less competitive in the Final because of tyre pressure that was not adapted to the conditions, Suleiman still managed to finish in 2nd place.
Suleiman thanked Youssef Zahidi, the president of the Moroccan federation, FMRSA, for integrating him into the Moroccan team to effectively contribute to Morocco’s 2nd place in the Nations Cup.
“It was an honour and a pleasure to represent Morocco in the Nations Cup in Muscat,” said Suleiman. “Oman is a modern and welcoming country that organised the MENA Karting Championship very well. The Muscat Raceway is a beautiful, interesting and selective circuit where I enjoyed driving very much. It was a new and enriching experience for me.”

Nuovo podio in Oman per Suleiman
Dopo la sua vittoria al Dubai O-Plate, Suleiman Zanfari ha nuovamente brillato salendo sul secondo gradino del podio della MENA Nations Cup che si è svolta a metà febbraio a Muscat nel Sultanato dell’Oman.
Frutto del coinvolgimento di varie ASN della regione, il MENA Karting Championship ha assunto grande importanza con il supporto della FIA. Questo grande evento per l’area Medio Oriente e Nord Africa (MENA) si è svolto dal 10 al 14 febbraio 2020 sul Muscat Raceway, parallelamente allo svolgimento del congresso regionale della FIA a Muscat, in presenza del presidente della FIA, Jean Todt, e del vicepresidente della FIA per l’area MENA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem
“Vorrei citare in particolare il MENA Karting Championship, organizzato quest’anno in parallelo con il congresso in Oman, con 15 paesi rappresentati alla Nations Cup”, ha precisato Jean Todt. “Finanziato dal programma di contributi sportivi della FIA, si tratta del primo nuovo evento regionale dalla creazione del campionato di rally del Medio Oriente all’inizio degli anni ‘80. Come sappiamo, l’importanza del karting non può essere sottovalutata essendo il trampolino di lancio verso le altre discipline degli sport motoristici. Ecco perché vorrei congratularmi con l’area MENA per aver organizzato un evento di questo tipo.”
Questa innovativa competizione ha riunito i migliori piloti del Nord Africa e del Medio Oriente per un confronto sportivo tra team nazionali al volante di kart Birel ART con motore Rotax strettamente di serie ed estratti a sorte. Il Marocco ha schierato sei piloti: un Mini Max, due Junior Max di cui Suleiman, un Senior Max, un DD2 Max e un Elite Sprint.
Suleiman si è fatto notare con performance di prim’ordine sul circuito di Muscat. Detentore della pole position nella Rotax Junior, ha vinto le sue tre manche di qualificazione e si è aggiudicato anche la prefinale. Meno competitivo in finale a causa di una pressione pneumatici non adeguata alle condizioni, Suleiman è riuscito nonostante tutto a terminare al secondo posto.
Suleiman ha ringraziato Youssef Zahidi, presidente della Federazione Marocchina, la FMRSA, per averlo inserito nel team marocchino contribuendo efficacemente al secondo posto del Marocco nella Nations Cup.
“È stato un onore e un piacere rappresentare il Marocco nella Nations Cup a Muscat”, ha dichiarato Suleiman. “L’Oman è un paese moderno e accogliente che ha organizzato alla perfezione il MENA Karting Championship. Il Muscat Raceway è un bel circuito, interessante e selettivo sul quale mi è piaciuto moltissimo girare. Si tratta di una nuova esperienza gratificante da mettere al mio attivo”.
Nouveau podium à Oman pour Suleiman
Après sa victoire au Dubaï O-Plate, Suleiman Zanfari a de nouveau brillé en montant sur la 2e marche du podium de la MENA Nations Cup qui s’est déroulée mi-février à Muscat dans le Sultanat d’Oman.
Résultat de l’implication de plusieurs ASN de la région, le MENA Karting Championship a pris de l’ampleur avec le soutien de la FIA. Cet évènement majeur pour la zone Middle-East and North Africa s’est déroulé du 10 au 14 février 2020 sur le Muscat Raceway, parallèlement à la tenue du congrès régional de la FIA à Muscat en présence du président de la FIA Jean Todt et du vice-président de la FIA pour la région MENA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
« Je tiens à mentionner en particulier le MENA Karting Championship, organisé cette année en tandem avec le congrès à Oman, avec 15 pays représentés à la Nations Cup » précisait Jean Todt. « Financé par le programme de subventions sportives de la FIA, il s’agit du premier nouvel événement régional depuis la création du championnat de rallye du Moyen-Orient au début des années 1980. Comme nous le savons, l’importance du karting ne peut être sous-estimée en tant que tremplin vers d’autres disciplines du sport automobile, c’est pourquoi je félicite la région MENA d’avoir organisé un tel événement. »
Cette compétition innovante a rassemblé les meilleurs pilotes d’Afrique du Nord et du Moyen-Orient pour un affrontement sportif par équipes nationales au volant de karts Birel ART à motorisation Rotax strictement de série tirés au sort. Le Maroc alignait six pilotes : un Mini Max, deux Junior Max dont Suleiman, un Senior Max, un DD2 Max et un en Elite Sprint.
Suleiman s’est fait remarquer par des performances de premier ordre sur la piste de Muscat. Détenteur de la pole position en Rotax Junior, il remportait ses trois manches qualificatives et s’adjugeait également la préfinale. Moins compétitif en finale à cause d’une pression de pneus mal adaptée aux conditions, Suleiman réussissait malgré tout à terminer à la 2e place.
Suleiman remerciait Youssef Zahidi, le président de la fédération marocaine, la FMRSA, de l’avoir intégré à l’équipe marocaine en contribuant efficacement à la 2e place du Maroc dans la Nations Cup.
« C’était un honneur et un plaisir de représenter le Maroc dans la Nations Cup à Muscat », a déclaré Suleiman. « Oman est un pays moderne et accueillant qui a très bien organisé le MENA Karting Championship. Le Muscat Raceway est un beau circuit, intéressant et sélectif sur lequel j’ai beaucoup apprécié de piloter. Ce fut une nouvelle expérience enrichissante à mettre à mon actif ».
