Top class professional triathlon is set to return on Sunday with the SLT Arena Games in Rotterdam offering a glimpse into a possible new future for sport.
Super League Triathlon have partnered with Zwift to deliver an event that will combine in real life and virtual racing for the first time to produce an immersive viewing experience.
An array of big names are taking part such as multiple world champion Javier Gomez Noya, two time Olympic medallist Jonathan Brownlee and reigning Ironman world champion Anne Haug.
Racing begins at 1pm CET and will be fast and furious with the athletes competing in Super League’s unique Triple Mix format, meaning they will all race three short, sharp and unpredictable races in a bid to secure the overall win.
The global broadcast will offer a rare insight into the suffering of the athletes as they compete, the best of the racing on Zwift and a constant stream of live data to illustrate the efforts of the competitors. The athletes complete the swim in an Olympic sized pool while the bike and run legs are on static bike trainers and self-powered curved treadmills
Super League Triathlon CEO, Michael D’hulst, said: “With the SLT Arena Games we have created something new and innovative, not only for triathlon but sport in general. This has been a challenging year for us all so it is fantastic to have a major positive to take out of it. The mixture of in real life and virtual racing via Super League’s exciting partnership with Zwift really does feel like a step into an exciting future and we are very excited to be hosting the event in Rotterdam this weekend.”

Le gare iniziano alle 13:00 CET e saranno veloci e furiose con gli atleti che gareggiano nell’esclusivo formato Triple Mix della Super League, il che significa che gareggeranno tutti tre gare brevi, taglienti e imprevedibili nel tentativo di assicurarsi la vittoria complessiva.
La trasmissione globale offrirà una rara visione della sofferenza degli atleti mentre gareggiano, il meglio delle gare su Zwift e un flusso costante di dati in diretta per illustrare gli sforzi dei concorrenti. Gli atleti completano la nuotata in una piscina olimpionica mentre le gambe della bici e della corsa sono su trainer statici e tapis roulant curvi autoalimentati
