The quality of the LeCont tyres again played a major role in the perfect running of the OK World Championship in Portimao, despite the particularly difficult and changeable weather conditions in southern Portugal.
In both wet and dry conditions, the Italian manufacturer’s tyres enabled all the drivers to perform at an equal level, with performances worthy of the high standard of this world competition. On a sporting level, the Tony Kart Racing Team triumphed with Callum Bradshaw, Joe Turney and Pedro Hiltbrand.
Slick tyres on Thursday and Saturday, rain tyres on Friday and Sunday! In Portimao, the vagaries of the Portuguese skies played with the nerves of the drivers and teams, who fortunately were able to count on the constant efficiency of the LeCont tyres. This was confirmed by the manufacturer’s support structure… “We successfully met several technical challenges during this OK World Championship,” says Paolo Bombara, marketing manager at LeCont. “On the one hand, the Portimao circuit has a fairly abrasive surface, the track is fast with corners that put the slick tyres to the test, with the average lap time being close to 100 km/h. On the other hand, it rained for two days. In both cases, the tyres have shown themselves to be efficient, consistent and identical from one set to the other. As far as the rain tyres are concerned, I would like to underline that we have really taken an important step forward compared to the previous homologation, regardless of the amount of water on the track.”

On the whole, the favourites were at the forefront of this Championship and the vast majority of the teams had the opportunity to shine at various points of the meeting. The talent of the drivers and small technical adjustments to the conditions made all the difference. At the end of the Final, which was held entirely on a wet track, the Tony Kart Racing Team took the entire podium, with an impressive Callum Bradshaw in the lead. The Briton became World Champion ahead of his compatriot Joe Turney and Spaniard Pedro Hiltbrand.
LeCont also wishes all the best to the 2020 European Champion Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who had an accident at the beginning of the Final.
Satisfactory 2020 results for LeCont
“Everyone will remember this unique year because of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is important to remember that the World Championship was originally planned to be held in Brazil! When we look at the health situation in the world, we have to admit that the FIA Karting took a wise decision by scheduling this event in Portugal. Obviously, without this crisis, our Rovereto factory would have produced more tyres, knowing that we were engaged on different fronts at the international level: WSK Euro Series, Winter Cup, Champions of the Future and of course FIA Karting with the OK and OK-Junior European Championships, as well as the OK World Championship. Some events had to be cancelled and many drivers were forced to withdraw from the event due to difficulties in moving from one country to another. However, it is to be welcomed that the season was able to run as smoothly as possible in this context. The protocols put in place proved to be effective and the events contested were of a very high standard. For our part, we responded professionally and we are pleased to see that our CIK-FIA approved tyres proved their effectiveness.”
Although the Covid-19 pandemic naturally suggests a certain caution, LeCont – with its knowledge and experience – will not fail to participate in the next calls for tenders launched by the FIA and the various ASNs, while remaining ready to respond to the requests of the various private series organisers.

La qualità degli pneumatici LeCont ha svolto ancora una volta un ruolo fondamentale nel perfetto svolgimento del Campionato mondiale OK a Portimao, nonostante le condizioni meteo particolarmente difficili e variabili che hanno imperversato nel sud del Portogallo. Sull’asciutto e sul bagnato, gli pneumatici del fabbricante italiano hanno consentito a tutti i piloti di girare in completo equilibrio sportivo, con performance degne dell’alto livello di questa competizione mondiale. Sul piano sportivo, il team Tony Kart Racing Team ha trionfato con Callum Bradshaw, Joe Turney e Pedro Hiltbrand.
Pneumatici slick giovedì e sabato, pneumatici Rain venerdì e domenica! A Portimao, i capricci del meteo hanno messo a dura prova i nervi di piloti e team che fortunatamente hanno potuto contare sull’efficacia costante degli pneumatici LeCont. Una constatazione confermata anche dalla struttura di assistenza del fabbricante… “Abbiamo affrontato con successo varie sfide tecniche in questo Campionato mondiale OK”, ha precisato Paolo Bombara, responsabile marketing di LeCont. “Da un lato, il circuito di Portimao ha un asfalto abbastanza abrasivo, il tracciato è veloce con le sue curve che mettono a dura prova gli pneumatici slick, la media sul giro era attorno ai 100 km/h. E dall’altro, la pioggia che ha accompagnato i piloti per due giorni. In entrambi i casi, gli pneumatici si sono dimostrati performanti, costanti e identici da un treno all’altro. Per quanto concerne gli pneumatici Rain, vorrei sottolineare che abbiamo fatto un importante passo avanti nel confronto con la precedente omologazione, qualunque sia la quantità d’acqua presente in pista.”

Nel complesso, i favoriti hanno risposto positivamente trovandosi nelle prime posizioni di questo Campionato e la maggior parte dei team ha avuto l’occasione di mettersi in mostra in vari momenti del meeting. Il talento dei piloti e i piccoli adeguamenti tecnici hanno fatto la differenza in queste condizioni. Al termine della finale, integralmente disputata su una pista molto bagnata, il Tony Kart Racing Team ha monopolizzato il podio, con uno straordinario Callum Bradshaw a guidare la tripletta. L’inglese è stato proclamato Campione del mondo davanti al suo compatriota Joe Turney e allo spagnolo Pedro Hiltbrand.
LeCont desidera anche inviare i suoi migliori auguri di pronta guarigione al Campione europeo 2020 Andrea Kimi Antonelli, coinvolto in un incidente all’inizio della finale.
Bilancio 2020 soddisfacente per LeCont
“Tutti ricorderanno questo anno molto speciale a causa della pandemia del Covid-19. Bisogna ricordarsi che il Campionato mondiale era inizialmente previsto in Brasile! Osservando la situazione sanitaria nel mondo, bisogna ammettere che la FIA Karting ha preso una decisione saggia programmando questa prova in Portogallo. Chiaramente, senza questa crisi, il nostro stabilimento di Rovereto avrebbe prodotto molti più pneumatici, tenendo conto che eravamo impegnati su diversi fronti a livello internazionale: WSK Euro Series, Winter Cup, Champions of the Future e ovviamente FIA Karting con i Campionati europei OK e OK-Junior, e con il Campionato mondiale OK. Alcune prove hanno dovuto essere annullate e numerosi piloti sono stati costretti a dare forfait a causa delle difficoltà di spostamento da un paese all’altro. Bisogna tuttavia essere contenti che la stagione abbia potuto svolgersi tenuto conto del contesto. I protocolli messi in atto si sono dimostrati efficaci e le prove disputate sono state di altissimo livello. Da parte nostra, abbiamo risposto con professionalità e siamo contenti di vedere che i nostri pneumatici omologati CIK-FIA hanno dimostrato tutta la loro efficacia.”
Nonostante la pandemia del Covid-19 suggerisca ovviamente una certa prudenza, LeCont – sicura del suo know-how e della sua esperienza – non mancherà di partecipare alle prossime gare d’appalto della FIA e delle diverse ASN, rimanendo comunque pronta a rispondere alle richieste dei vari organizzatori delle serie private.

Bradshaw conclut une saison réussie pour LeCont
La qualité des pneumatiques LeCont a encore joué un rôle primordial dans le parfait déroulement du Championnat du Monde OK à Portimao, en dépit des conditions météorologiques particulièrement difficiles et changeantes qui ont sévi dans le sud du Portugal. Sur le sec comme sous la pluie, les gommes du manufacturier italien ont permis à tous les pilotes d’évoluer en toute équité sportive, avec des performances dignes du haut niveau de cette compétition mondiale. Sur le plan sportif, le team Tony Kart Racing Team a triomphé avec Callum Bradshaw, Joe Turney et Pedro Hiltbrand.
Pneus slicks le jeudi et le samedi, pneus pluie le vendredi et le dimanche ! A Portimao, les caprices du ciel portugais ont joué avec les nerfs des pilotes et des teams, qui ont heureusement pu compter sur l’efficacité constante des gommes LeCont. Un constat confirmé du côté de la structure d’assistance du manufacturier… “Nous avons relevé avec succès plusieurs défis techniques durant ce Championnat du Monde OK,” précise Paolo Bombara, responsable marketing chez LeCont. “D’une part, le circuit de Portimao possède un revêtement assez abrasif, son tracé est rapide avec des courbes mettant les pneus slicks à rude épreuve, la moyenne au tour étant proche des 100 km/h. D’autre part, la pluie a accompagné les pilotes deux jours durant. Dans les deux cas, les pneumatiques se sont montrés performants, constants et identiques d’un train à l’autre. Concernant les pneus pluie, je tiens à souligner que nous avons vraiment effectué un important pas en avant en comparaison à la précédente homologation, quelle que soit la quantité d’eau présente sur la piste.”

Dans l’ensemble, les favoris ont répondu présent aux avant-postes de ce Championnat et la grande majorité des teams a eu l’occasion de s’illustrer à divers moments du meeting. Le talent des pilotes et de petits ajustements techniques face aux conditions ont fait la différence. A l’issue de la finale intégralement disputée sur une piste détrempée, le Tony Kart Racing Team a raflé l’intégralité du podium, avec un impressionnant Callum Bradshaw en leader. Le Britannique est devenu Champion du Monde devant son compatriote Joe Turney et l’Espagnol Pedro Hiltbrand.
LeCont souhaite également envoyer tous ses vœux de meilleurs rétablissements au Champion d’Europe 2020 Andrea Kimi Antonelli, accidenté en début de finale.
Bilan 2020 satisfaisant pour LeCont
“Tout le monde gardera en mémoire cette année très spéciale à cause de la pandémie de la Covid-19. Il faut se souvenir que le Championnat du Monde était initialement prévu au Brésil ! Lorsque l’on regarde la situation sanitaire dans le monde, il faut avouer que la FIA Karting a pris une sage décision en programmant cette épreuve au Portugal. Evidemment, sans cette crise, notre usine de Rovereto aurait produit davantage de pneumatiques, sachant que nous étions engagés sur différents fronts au niveau international: WSK Euro Series, Winter Cup, Champions of the Future et bien sûr FIA Karting avec les Championnats d’Europe OK et OK-Junior, ainsi qu’avec le Championnat du Monde OK. Quelques épreuves ont dû être annulées et de nombreux pilotes ont été contraints de déclarer forfait en raison des difficultés à se déplacer d’un pays à un autre. Il faut toutefois se réjouir que la saison ait pu se dérouler au mieux compte-tenu de ce contexte. Les protocoles mis en place se sont avérés efficaces et les épreuves disputées furent de très haut niveau. De notre côté, nous avons répondu avec professionnalisme et nous sommes heureux de voir que nos pneumatiques homologués CIK-FIA ont démontré toute leur efficacité.”
Bien que la pandémie Covid-19 suggère naturellement une certaine prudence, LeCont – fort de son savoir-faire et de son expérience – ne manquera pas de participer aux prochains appels d’offres lancés par la FIA et par les différentes ASN, tout en se tenant prêt à répondre aux sollicitations des divers organisateurs de séries privées.
