Come lo scorso anno domenica a Laveno Mombello/Cittiglio nel trofeo Alfredo Binda sarà l’olandese volante Marianne Vos ad indossare la maglia di leader della Coppa del Mondo che ha preso avvio sabato 9 marzo con la prima prova, la Ronde Van Drenthe, che la Vos ha vinto battendo allo sprint la connazionale Elen Van Dijk.
Anche nel 2012 la Vos indossava la maglia di leader di Coppa del Mondo e qui in Italia l’olandese ha vinto già tre volte negli ultimi quattro anni; quindi è lei la superfavorita per il successo. Marianne Vos, ormai sempre più conosciuta come la Merckx del ciclismo femminile, è un vero e proprio fenomeno capace di vincere in tutte le specialità del ciclismo e in tutti i traguardi possibili, olimpiadi e campionati mondiali compresi. Oltretutto mancherà la britannica Emma Pooley, che sul traguardo di Cittiglio si è imposta due volte e che quest’anno milita in una squadra minore che non ha diritto di partecipazione.
Al via domenica si schiereranno 168 atlete in rappresentanza di 29 squadre, provenienti da 29 nazioni di tutti i continenti. Sempre e solo Marianne Vos? Così sembra anche se il ciclismo, sport che alberga nei cuori di milioni di appassionati in tutto il mondo, spesso ci ha riservato grosse sorprese. Al via ci sono quasi tutte le migliori (18 tra le prime 20 della classifica UCI) quindi il tenore agonistico sarà altissimo. Segnaliamo inoltre che tra le giovani è iscritta con la Argos Shimano Lucy Garner, talento inglese al primo anno elite e vincitrice per due anni di fila del mondiale juniores. Inoltre per la nazionale francese è iscritta Eva Mottet, figlia del campione Charly Mottet, anche lei al primo anno nella categoria elite.
Domenica il trofeo Alfredo Binda – seconda prova di Coppa del Mondo – prenderà il via alle ore 13.15 da Laveno Mombello. Poi, a velocità controllata, il gruppo raggiungerà Cittiglio per il via ufficiale percorrendo la pista ciclabile che sarà inaugurata proprio dalle atlete partecipanti alla competizione.
La gara si snoderà su un percorso di km 120. Da Cittiglio si transiterà per Brenta, Casalzuigno, Cuveglio, Rancio Valcuvia, Cassano Valcuvia, Mesenzana, Cucco, Valdomino, Luino, Germignaga, Bissago Valtravaglia, Mesenzana, Grantola, Cunardo, Bedero Valcuvia, Brinzio Castello Cabiaglio, Orino, Azzio, Gemonio Cittiglio. Questa prima parte del percorso misura 49 chilometri. Poi si percorrerà cinque volte il circuito per Brenta, Casalzuigno, Cuveglio, Cuvio, Comacchio, Orino, Azzio, Gemonio e Cittiglio. La salita del Brinzio nella prima parte e poi le cinque salite ad Orino costituiscono il terreno più propizio per gli attacchi.
Il programma quest’anno si è ulteriormente arricchito e le emozioni inizieranno già giovedì.

2013 Alfredo Binda Trophy – Women’s World Cup Circuit; hot favourite Marianne Vos to watch out for youngsters
Just like last year, Marianne Vos will be wearing the World Cup Leader’s jersey on Sunday to race in the Alfredo Binda Trophy, Laveno Mombello/Cittiglio. The “Flying Dutchwoman†won the first stage of the World Cup Circuit on Saturday 9th March, the Ronde Van Drenthe, sprinting against compatriot Elen Van Dijk. In the past four years, Vos has already won three times here in Italy and this is why she is considered hot favourite to win again. Marianne Vos, now referred to as the female cycling equivalent to Merckx, is absolutely amazing for being able to win in all the different cycling specialties and at all the available events, including Olympic Games and World Championships. Great absent the British Emma Pooley, who has won twice in Cittiglio. This year’s Pooley’s lower level team is not allowed to take part in the race.
168 athletes will be racing on Sunday, 29 teams from 29 countries across the globe: HOLLAND; FRANCE; USA; GERMANY; SWEDEN; AUSTRALIA; ITALY; NORWAY; LITUANIA; UK; BELGIUM; RUSSIA; POLOND; BIELORUSSIA; SWITZERLAND; ISRAEL; SOUTH AFRICA; JAPAN; LUXEMBURG; CANADA; NEW ZEALAND; FINLAND; ESTONIA; SPAIN; UKRAIN; MEXICO; VENEZUELA; AUSTRIA; SLOVENJA.
Is it always going to be the one and only Marianne Vos? This is what it looks like, although cycling has surprised more than once its millions fans all over the world. Almost all the best athletes will be at the start of the Binda Trophy (18 of the top 20 UCI athletes), the racing level will be at its highest. Worth of mention Lucy Garner, British young talent racing for Argos Shimano, at her first year in the Elite Category and winner of the Juniors World Championship two years in a row. Representing the French team, Eva Mottet, cycling champion Charly Mottet’s daughter, also at her first year in the Elite Category.
On Sunday the Alfredo Binda Trophy – second stage of the World Cup Circuit – will start at 1:15pm from Laveno Mombello. The peloton will then slowly transfer to Cittiglio for the official start along the new cycling track which will be officially opened by the athletes.
The race will be 120km long. From Cittiglio through Brenta, Casalzuigno, Cuveglio, Rancio Valcuvia, Cassano Valcuvia, Mesenzana, Cucco, Valdomino, Luino, Germignaga, Bissago Valtravaglia, Mesenzana, Grantola, Cunardo, Bedero Valcuvia, Brinzio Castello Cabiaglio, Orino, Azzio, Gemonio Cittiglio. This first part is 49km. Then five times around the circuit Brenta, Casalzuigno, Cuveglio, Cuvio, Comacchio, Orino, Azzio, Gemonio and Cittiglio. The Brinzio uphill in the first part of the race and then five times on the Orino uphill will be perfect terrain for the athletes’ attacks.
This year program is even richer and the emotions will start pouring in starting with exciting events on Thursday.
