Il primo appuntamento del Campionato europeo FIA Karting OK e Junior non è stato facile per nessuno. I continui cambiamenti del meteo sul circuito di Genk hanno disturbato lo svolgimento delle manche di qualifica. Oltre a questo, il Team Birel ART Racing non è stato risparmiato dagli eventi della gara. Tuttavia, il bilancio del week-end non è stato per nulla negativo.
Riccardo Longhi, il nuovo team manager di Birel ART Racing, si è dimostrato molto fiducioso nei confronti del mezzo e degli uomini e la sua esperienza nelle gare gli permette di prevedere dei bei successi per le prossime gare.
“Devo ammettere che la fortuna non è stata dalla nostra parte in Belgio, ma il meeting è stato positivo per quanto concerne la velocità sia nella OK che nella Junior. I nostri telai si sono dimostrati performanti in tutte le condizioni con i motori TM Racing. Tra i Senior, Kucharczyk, Morgatto, Bertuca e Cepil hanno dimostrato un’ottima velocità sull’asciutto e sul bagnato. Problemi tecnici minori hanno compromesso le loro possibilità di successo, ma questo non rimette in discussione il loro potenziale. Sono convinto che la Top-5 poteva essere alla loro portata come hanno dimostrato i tempi che erano simili a quelli realizzati nella finale dai piloti in testa. Lo stesso vale per la OK-Junior dove Macintyre ha realizzato un’incredibile rimonta dalle prove cronometrate, in particolare su una pista che sabato aveva poco grip. Non è stato il nostro week-end, ci sono mancati i risultati positivi è vero, ma sono soddisfatto della nostra velocità nelle due categorie e dei tanti piloti veloci sui quali possiamo contare. Sono convinto che abbiamo i mezzi per capovolgere la situazione in occasione della seconda prova europea tra meno di due settimane a Aunay-les-Bois, in Francia.”
Morgatto non lontano dall’obiettivo nella OK
Matheus Morgatto ha iniziato bene con il terzo miglior tempo nelle qualifiche della OK. Mentre le prime tre manche di qualificazione si sono svolte nel migliore dei modi, nell’ultima ha avuto un contatto che lo ha fatto retrocedere in classifica. Nonostante la sua partenza al centro della griglia, è rimontato all’ottavo posto, registrando dei tempi migliori rispetto alla Top-3 finale. Anche Tymoteusz Kucharczyk è stato molto competitivo con il suo nono tempo e due manche nella Top-5 con un giro più veloce in gara. Come Christian Bertuca anche Igor Cepil, il giovane polacco, ha dovuto affrontare vari problemi tecnici e sportivi. Ismoilkhuja Akmedkhodjaev ha fatto il suo ingresso nel team senza però potersi distinguere.
Mission impossible per Macintyre
La giovane speranza inglese è purtroppo scivolato in fondo alla classifica sin dalle prove di qualificazione. Si è impegnato al massimo per rimontare durante le manche, ma la fortuna non è stata dalla sua parte. Tuttavia, è riuscito a riguadagnare 39 posizioni nonostante un ritiro e varie penalità. Anche Kimi Tani ha realizzato una notevole rimonta, mentre Thijs Keeren, meglio posizionato in termini di tempi, ha dovuto affrontare una serie di problemi. Nemmeno Aurelia Nobels ed Ekaterina Luescher sono riuscite a raggiungere la finale.

Une bonne compétitivité contrariée par une série de contretemps
Le premier rendez-vous du Championnat d’Europe FIA Karting OK et Junior n’a été facile pour personne. Les changements continus de la météo sur le circuit de Genk ont notamment perturbé le déroulement des manches qualificatives. En plus de cela, le Team Birel ART Racing n’a pas été épargné par les aléas de la compétition. Pourtant, le bilan du week-end est loin d’être négatif.
Riccardo Longhi, le nouveau team manager de Birel ART Racing, fait preuve d’une confiance à toute épreuve dans le matériel comme dans les hommes et son expérience de la compétition lui permet d’envisager de belles réussites pour les prochaines courses.
« Je dois bien admettre que la chance n’était pas de notre côté en Belgique, mais le meeting a été positif en ce qui concerne notre vitesse, autant en OK qu’en Junior. Nos châssis se sont montrés performants dans toutes les conditions avec leur motorisation TM Racing. Chez les Seniors, Kucharczyk, Morgatto, Bertuca et Cepil ont affiché une très bonne rapidité sur le sec comme sous la pluie. Des problèmes techniques mineurs ont compromis leurs possibilités de réussite, mais cela ne remet pas en question leur potentiel. Je suis persuadé que le top 5 pouvait être atteint comme l’ont montré les temps similaires à ceux de la tête de course réalisés en finale. De même en OK-Junior où Macintyre a effectué une incroyable remontée depuis les essais chronométrés, notamment sur un asphalte peu adhérent le samedi. Ce n’était pas notre week-end, nous avons manqué de réussite, c’est certain. Mais je reste satisfait de notre rapidité dans les deux catégories et des nombreux pilotes rapides sur lesquels nous pouvons compter. Je suis convaincu que nous avons les moyens de renverser la situation pour la 2e épreuve européenne dans moins de deux semaines à Aunay-les-Bois, en France ».
Morgatto pas loin du but en OK
Matheus Morgatto a bien commencé par le 3e meilleur temps des essais qualificatifs OK. Alors que les trois premières manches qualificatives s’étaient bien passées, il était bousculé dans la dernière, ce qui l’a fait reculer au classement. Malgré son départ en milieu de grille, il remontait en 8e position, en étant plus rapide que le top 3 de la finale. Tymoteusz Kucharczyk était également très compétitif avec son 9e chrono et deux manches dans le top 5 dont un meilleur tour en course. Comme Christian Bertuca et Igor Cepil, le jeune Polonais était confronté à plusieurs aléas techniques et sportifs. Ismoilkhuja Akmedkhodjaev faisait son entrée dans l’équipe dans des circonstances peu évidentes.
Mission impossible pour Macintyre
Le jeune espoir britannique a malheureusement plongé dans les profondeurs du classement dès les essais qualificatifs. Il se donnait à fond pour remonter dans les manches, mais le sort ne lui était pas favorable. Il parvenait cependant à regagner 39 places malgré un abandon et plusieurs pénalités. Kimi Tani effectuait lui aussi une forte remontée, tandis que Thijs Keeren, mieux placé au chrono, rencontrait son lot d’ennuis. Ni Aurelia Nobels, ni Ekaterina Luescher n’atteignaient non plus la finale.

Strong competitiveness thwarted by a series of setbacks
The first meeting of the FIA Karting European OK and Junior Championship was not easy for anyone. The continuous changes in the weather on the Genk circuit disrupted the Qualifying Heats. On top of that, the Birel ART Racing Team was not spared the vagaries of competition. However, the weekend’s results were far from negative.
Riccardo Longhi, the new team manager of Birel ART Racing, is confident in both the equipment and the people, and his experience of racing allows him to envisage great successes for the next races.
“I must admit that luck was not on our side in Belgium, but the meeting was positive as far as our speed is concerned, both in OK and in Junior. Our chassis performed well in all conditions with the TM Racing engines. In the Senior class, Kucharczyk, Morgatto, Bertuca and Cepil were very fast in the dry and in the rain. Minor technical problems compromised their chances of success, but this does not call their potential into question. I am convinced that the top five could be reached as the times similar to those of the leaders in the Final showed. Similarly in OK-Junior where Macintyre made an incredible comeback from Qualifying, especially on a slippery track on Saturday. It wasn’t our weekend, we didn’t do well, that’s for sure. But I am still satisfied with our speed in both categories and the many fast drivers we can count on. I am convinced that we can turn the situation around for the second European event in less than two weeks in Aunay-les-Bois, France.”
Morgatto not far from the goal in OK
Matheus Morgatto started well with the 3rd fastest time in the OK Qualifying session. While the first three Qualifying Heats went well, he was pushed around in the last one, which pushed him back in the rankings. Despite starting in the middle of the grid, he climbed back to 8th position, being faster than the top three in the Final. Tymoteusz Kucharczyk was also very competitive with his 9th time and two top five finishes including a fastest lap in the race. Like Christian Bertuca and Igor Cepil, the young Polish driver was confronted with several technical and sporting problems. Ismoilkhuja Akmedkhodjaev made his debut with the team in difficult circumstances.
Mission impossible for Macintyre
The young British hopeful unfortunately plunged into the depths of the rankings as early as the Qualifying sessions. He tried hard to get back into the heats, but fate was not in his favour. However, he managed to regain 39 places despite a retirement and several penalties. Kimi Tani also made a strong comeback, whereas Thijs Keeren, better placed in Qualifying, had his share of problems. Neither Aurelia Nobels nor Ekaterina Luescher reached the Final.
