Super League Triathlon returns to Jersey for the fourth time on Saturday, September 18 (11.30am local time) with Vincent Luis and Jess Learmonth keen to take a step nearer securing the Championship Series titles.
Britain’s Learmonth has been unstoppable so far, taking victories in the opening two races in London and Munich to collect a perfect 30 points. However, her fellow Olympic gold medal winning Mixed Team Relay teammate, Georgia Taylor-Brown, is close behind and eyeing closing the gap in Jersey while the British women want to continue an impressive run which has seen them bag all six podium places so far.
France’s Luis, who has dominated in Jersey multiple times in the past, is aiming for another win at Elizabeth Marina. Luis was second to Hayden Wilde in London but took the victory in Munich to edge two points clear of the New Zealander and Jonathan Brownlee in the overall standings.
There are still a number of athletes with title ambitions heading to Jersey, which is the third stop of a four event global tour which will end with the Grand Final in Malibu.
The race in Jersey will be held over the Enduro format meaning the athletes face a gruelling three continuous rounds of swim-bike-run.
Vincent Luis said: “Taking the lead in the Championship Series is good, it’s a lot better than being second. You miss the feeling of the finish tape in your hands. It was my first win of 2021 and it’s good to be back on top. My plan went well and now I have a little buffer in the overall leaderboard because one point goes very quick.
“Next is Jersey which is my favourite race and the Enduro is my favourite format in Super League. The bodies will be tired after these races but I feel confident and I will go all out in Jersey.”
Jess Learmonth said: “I am absolutely over the moon. Even after London I thought ‘that’s it, and even if I get eliminated I am happy.’ Winning two I am well happy now. I could come last in the next two and still be pleased, but I want to keep it going.
“I thought I was too old and a bit slow for Super League, but in fact because you have to do it back-to-back-to-back I get better as I go along.”
