
Lausanne – Just a few hours from the Sprint race, which yesterday morning crowned Marianna Jagercikova (SVK) and Oriol Cardona Coll (ESP) as European Champions in the Sprint discipline, about 180 athletes representing 18 countries have competed this morning with the specific goal of winning some important medals. The varied and demanding race track have alternated very steep slopes with fast sections where changing the rhythm has been fundamental for the final ranking.
In addition to the super favourite winner Axelle Gachet-Mollaret (FRA), Tove Alexandersson of Sweden and Sarah Dreier of Austria have completed the podium of the Senior Women. Among the men of the same category, Alex Oberbacher (ITA) and Maximilien Drion Du Chapois (BEL) have finished in second and third position respectively behind the new European Champion Werner Marti of Switzerland.
The Italian U23 competitor Lisa Moreschini has taken the gold, ahead of the teammate Samantha Bertolina and Perrine Gindre of France. In the male category, the Swiss athletes Gay Aurélien and Ludovic Lattion has taken the first two places of the podium, while Julien Bernaz of France the third one.
Among U20s, Caroline Ulrich (SUI) has won over Antonia Niedermaier (GER – second) and Manuela Pedrana (ITA – third). Thomas Bussard of Switzerland has taken the gold, followed by Anselme Damevin of France taking the silver and the other twin brother Robin Bussard with bronze, after the cancellation of the initial penalty to the Frenchman.
As in yesterday’s Sprint race, the U18 category has the possibility to competed also today and for the remaining races of the week. The U18 athlete Ida Waldal of Norway has won the Vertical race, ahead of Louise Trincaz (FRA) and María Ángeles Rodríguez Santiago (ESP), finished second and third respectively. Jules Raybaud (FRA), Mirko Lupo Olcelli (ITA) and Mathieu Pharisa (SUI) have completed in order the male podium of the same category.
After the first two competitions of the event, tomorrow will be a rest day during which the athletes will have the opportunity to recover the energies and train on the course of the Individual race scheduled for Saturday morning.
