The changing weather conditions at the third round of the Champions of the Future Euro Series in Kristianstad enabled the Birel ART Racing team to gather a large amount of data in OK and OK-Junior. Drivers and technicians had to adapt constantly to ensure their competitiveness, which was certainly good training for the third round of the FIA European Karting Championship which will take place in Sweden in a fortnight.
There was no shortage of good performances and comebacks in the Euro Series from 19th to 22nd May at the Åsum Ring, despite the many incidents that punctuated the races throughout the meeting. Harley Keeble represented the colours of Birel ART best by winning back 17 places in the rain during the OK Final. Dry on Friday for Qualifying and the first heats, the weather was changeable on Saturday with several light rainy spells, leaving the competitors to deal with constantly changing grip. While the Super Heats were run in dry conditions on Sunday, rain interrupted the Junior Final which started on slick tyres, while the OK Final started on a progressively wet track.
“We had to work at an intense pace this weekend in Sweden,” said Birel ART Racing Team Manager Riccardo Longhi. “The next few days will not be any quieter as we analyse our performance in all the conditions we encountered and prepare for the next round of the European Championship. Our drivers have had to deal with a lot of setbacks in the Euro Series, with on-track incidents being frequent at Kristianstad. However, the overall performance level of the team was very interesting. The potential of the Birel ART chassis combined with the excellent TM Racing engines prepared by GFR bodes well.”
Keeble makes progress to the end of the OK Final
Cristian Bertuca and Karol Pasiewicz proved themselves capable of finishing in the top five of the OK class right from the start of the event. After a retirement in the heat and a complex Super Heat, Bertuca missed out on qualification for the Final by just two points. Pasiewicz started from the sixth row and fought his way into the top 10 until a race incident broke his momentum and forced him to retire. Harley Keeble made a superb 15-place recovery during the heats, but retired at the beginning of his Super Heat. He qualified in 31st place for the Final and was very comfortable in the rain. He made up 17 places to 14th on the finish line, before dropping back to 16th due to a penalty for a wrongly positioned front fairing.
OK-Junior: Kutskov so close
Harsh race conditions masked the true level of performance of the Birel ART drivers in OK-Junior by preventing them from reaching the finish on several occasions. Kirill Kutskov increased the pace after two consecutive retirements in the heat and finished with a 4th and a 6th position in the last two heats. He came very close to the Final, only three points away. Two retirements in the heats and one in the Super Heat interrupted Reno Francot’s run, who had shown good speed in Qualifying. Jindrich Pesl also had to deal with a number of hazards in his way.

The young Spanish hopeful Aaron Garcia, member of the Leclerc by Lennox Racing team, got himself noticed several times in OK-Junior, bringing his Birel ART / TM Racing to 4th place in Super Heat 1 after a nine-position climb.

Le condizioni meteorologiche variabili che hanno accompagnato la terza prova della Champions of the Future Euro Series a Kristianstad hanno permesso al team Birel ART Racing di raccogliere una grande quantità di dati nella OK e nella OK-Junior. Piloti e tecnici hanno dovuto costantemente adattarsi per garantire la loro competitività. Sicuramente un buon allenamento in vista della terza prova del Campionato Europeo FIA Karting che si svolgerà in Svezia tra quindici giorni.
Sull’Åsum Ring non sono mancate le belle prestazioni e le rimonte durante la Euro Series dal 19 al 22 maggio, nonostante i numerosi incidenti che hanno costellato le gare per tutta la durata del meeting. Harley Keeble ha rappresentato al meglio i colori di Birel ART riconquistando 17 posizioni sotto la pioggia nella finale OK. Il venerdì è stato asciutto per le qualifiche e le prime manche, ma sabato il meteo è stato leggermente piovoso, lasciando i concorrenti alle prese con un grip in costante cambiamento. Sebbene le Super Heat si siano svolte domenica in condizioni di asciutto, la pioggia ha interrotto la finale Junior che è partita con pneumatici slick, mentre la finale OK è iniziata su una pista che si asciugava con il passare dei giri.
“Questo fine settimana in Svezia abbiamo dovuto lavorare a un ritmo intenso”, ha dichiarato il Team Manager di Birel ART Racing Riccardo Longhi. “I prossimi giorni saranno frenetici in quanto dovremo analizzare le nostre prestazioni in tutte le condizioni che abbiamo incontrato e prepararci alla prossima prova del Campionato europeo. I nostri piloti hanno dovuto affrontare molti contrattempi nella Euro Series, poiché a Kristianstad vi sono stati diversi incidenti in pista. Tuttavia, la prestazione complessiva della squadra è stata molto interessante. Il potenziale dei telai Birel ART, abbinato agli eccellenti motori TM Racing preparati da GFR, fa ben sperare.”
Keeble arriva fino alla finale OK
Cristian Bertuca e Karol Pasiewicz sono riusciti a piazzarsi tra i primi cinque nella categoria OK fin dall’inizio dell’evento. Dopo un ritiro nella manche e una complessa Super Heat, Bertuca ha mancato la qualificazione alla finale per soli 2 punti. Pasiewicz è partito dalla sesta fila e ha lottato per entrare nella Top-10 fino a quando un incidente di gara ha interrotto la sua cavalcata e lo ha costretto al ritiro. Harley Keeble ha fatto una splendida rimonta di 15 posizioni durante le manche, ma si è ritirato all’inizio della sua Super-Heat. Si è qualificato al 31° posto per la finale e si è trovato molto a suo agio sotto la pioggia. Ha recuperato 17 posizioni salendo al 14° posto sul traguardo, prima di retrocedere al 16° a causa di una penalità per una carenatura anteriore mal posizionata.
OK-Junior: Kutskov a un soffio dall’obiettivo
Le difficili condizioni di gara hanno mascherato il vero livello di prestazioni dei piloti Birel ART nella classe OK-Junior impedendo loro di raggiungere il traguardo in diverse occasioni. Kirill Kutskov ha aumentato il ritmo dopo due ritiri consecutivi nella manche e ha concluso con un quarto e un sesto posto nelle ultime due manche. Ha sfiorato la finale per soli 3 punti. Due ritiri nella manche e uno nella Super Heat hanno interrotto la corsa di Reno Francot, che aveva dimostrato una buona velocità nelle qualifiche. Anche Jindrich Pesl ha dovuto affrontare vari imprevisti.

La giovane speranza spagnola Aaron Garcia, membro del team Leclerc by Lennox Racing, ha fatto sentire la sua presenza in diverse occasioni nella OK-Junior, in particolare portando il suo Birel ART/TM Racing al quarto posto nella Super Heat 1 dopo una rimonta di nove posizioni.
Week-end studieux sous une météo changeante en Suède
Les conditions climatiques changeantes qui ont accompagné la 3e épreuve de la Champions of the Future Euro Series à Kristianstad ont permis au team Birel ART Racing d’engranger une grande quantité de données en OK et OK-Junior. Pilotes et techniciens ont dû s’adapter en permanence pour assurer leur compétitivité. Certainement un bon entraînement en vue du 3e round du Championnat d’Europe FIA Karting qui se déroulera en Suède dans deux semaines.
Les bonnes performances et les remontées n’ont pas manqué en Euro Series du 19 au 22 mai sur l’Åsum Ring malgré les nombreux incidents qui ont ponctué les courses tout au long du meeting. Harley Keeble a le mieux représenté les couleurs de Birel ART en regagnant 17 places sous la pluie lors de la finale OK. Sec le vendredi pour les qualifications et les premières manches, le temps a été perturbé samedi par plusieurs passages pluvieux de faible intensité, laissant les compétiteurs aux prises avec une adhérence constamment changeante. Si les Super Manches se sont déroulées dur le sec dimanche, la pluie a interrompu la finale Junior lancée en pneus slick, tandis que la finale OK partait sur une piste détrempée évoluant progressivement.
« Nous avons dû adopter un rythme de travail intense ce week-end en Suède », précisait le team manager Birel ART Racing Riccardo Longhi. « Les jours à venir ne vont pas être plus calmes pour analyser nos performances dans toutes les conditions rencontrées et préparer la prochaine manche du Championnat d’Europe. Nos pilotes ont dû faire face à de nombreux contretemps en Euro Series, les incidents en piste étant fréquents à Kristianstad. Le niveau de performance global de l’équipe s’est cependant révélé très intéressant. Le potentiel des châssis Birel ART associés aux excellents moteurs TM Racing préparés par GFR est de bon augure ».
Keeble jusqu’au bout de la finale OK
Cristian Bertuca et Karol Pasiewicz se sont montrés capables de pointer dans le top 5 de la catégorie OK dès le début de l’épreuve. Après un abandon en manche et une super manche complexe, Bertuca manquait sa qualification en finale de 2 points seulement. Pasiewicz s’élançait depuis la 6e ligne et se battait dans le top 10 jusqu’à ce qu’un fait de course ne brise son élan et le force à renoncer. Harley Keeble assurait une superbe remontée de 15 places pendant les manches, mais abandonnait dès le début de sa super manche. Il se qualifiait pourtant au 31e rang pour la finale et se montrait très à l’aise sous la pluie. Il regagnait 17 places en passant 14e sur la ligne d’arrivée, avant de rétrograder 16e sous l’effet d’une pénalité pour carénage avant mal positionné.
OK-Junior : Kutskov si près du but
Des conditions de course assez rudes ont masqué le véritable niveau de performances des pilotes Birel ART en OK-Junior en les privant à maintes reprises d’atteindre l’arrivée. Kirill Kutskov haussait le rythme après deux abandons consécutifs en manche et terminait par une 4e et une 6e positions dans les deux dernières manches. Il passait tout près de la finale, pour seulement 3 points. Deux abandons en manche et un en super manche interrompait le parcours de Reno Francot qui avait pourtant montré une bonne vélocité en qualification. Jindrich Pesl rencontrait également de nombreux aléas sur son chemin.
