The end of the European Championship marked by high performance
The 2022 FIA Karting European Championship in the OK and OK-Junior categories ended at the Franciacorta circuit, where the Birel ART-TM packages clearly showed great competitiveness. With three drivers in the top 11 on the starting grid of the OK Final and Kirill Kutskov leading at the beginning of the OK-Junior Final, the Birel ART Racing Team was hoping to celebrate an excellent result at this major international event. However, a series of race incidents destroyed all the efforts made by the technical team and the engine builders. The reds will definitely have a revenge to take in the World Championship in September.
Riccardo Longhi, Team Manager of the Birel ART Racing Team, could not believe his eyes… “We know that karting gives us moments of joy and disappointment. But this time, the disillusionment we experienced in Franciacorta was difficult to accept, because many of our drivers started with high objectives in view of the results obtained in Timed Practice, in the Qualifying Heats and in the Super Heats. Unfortunately, in some cases it only took a few laps to see our hopes dashed in the two Finals. This is obviously disappointing, as we have a great package this season.”
Speed and consistency in OK
On Sunday before the Finals, Harley Keeble, Karol Pasiewicz and Cristian Bertuca could be proud of their performance during most of the meeting, as they were 8th, 10th and 11th respectively on the grid for the Final. The Briton finished five heats in the top five, the Pole always finished between 3rd and 8th, while the Italian only had one mishap on a formation lap, but was constantly fighting at the front the rest of the time.
“The Final was very intense, with constant duels that didn’t always benefit our drivers. Keeble dropped back to 17th after starting the race in 7th place. Bertuca was very fast and finished the first lap in 5th position, but had to settle for 15th place after some contacts. Pasiewicz also crashed out in 24th position.”
Pedro Hiltbrand, who was entered as a wild card, used the event to test new solutions for the next races. As for Ella Stevens, she achieved her best qualification in this 2022 European Championship, confirming her progress.
OK-Junior: Kutskov, the surprise of the beginning of the Final
With temperatures frequently exceeding 30° in the sun and a circuit that clearly highlighted the qualities of the chassis, Kirill Kutskov’s Birel ART-TM Racing did wonders in Franciacorta. Placed on the third row in the heats, Kutskov always managed to gain places in each of his races on Friday and Saturday. He took three 2nd places and finished the Super Heat in 3rd position. His remarkable start even put him in the lead in the Final! Unfortunately, he was forced to give up the fight for victory after a collision on the seventh lap, with many regrets.
Reno Francot suffered the same fate from the start! It was a pity, as he had almost driven a clear round in the heats, setting a fastest lap in one of them. The Dutchman’s competitiveness was barely rewarded in Lombardy! The Italian Zoe Florescu Potolea did not have an easy time after a timed session that she had hoped to improve on.
“The result is one thing, performance is another and this one confirms the technical choices we made. It is a good omen before the World Championship in Sarno,” concluded Riccardo Longhi.
Un finale di Campionato europeo sotto il segno della performance
Il Campionato europeo FIA Karting 2022 per le categorie OK e OK-Junior si è concluso sul circuito di Franciacorta, dove i kart Birel ART-TM hanno dimostrato chiaramente una grande competitività. Con tre piloti tra i primi 11 sulla griglia della finale OK e Kirill Kutskov in testa all’inizio della finale OK-Junior, il Birel ART Racing Team sperava di festeggiare un risultato eccellente in questo importante evento internazionale. Questo senza considerare una serie di eventi di gara che ha distrutto tutti gli sforzi compiuti dal team tecnico e dai preparatori. I “rossi” potranno prendersi la rivincita in occasione del Campionato mondiale in programma a settembre.
Il team manager del Birel ART Racing Team, Riccardo Longhi, non poteva credere ai suoi occhi… “Sappiamo che il karting ci regala momenti di gioia e di delusione. Ma questa volta la delusione che abbiamo vissuto a Franciacorta è stata difficile da accettare, dato che molti dei nostri piloti partivano con grandi aspettative basate sui risultati ottenuti nelle prove cronometrate, nelle manche di qualificazione e nelle Super Heat. Purtroppo, a volte sono bastati pochi giri perché le nostre speranze si infrangessero nelle due finali. È ovviamente deludente perché abbiamo un ottimo pacchetto per questa stagione.”
Velocità e regolarità nella OK
Domenica prima delle finali, Harley Keeble, Karol Pasiewicz e Cristian Bertuca potevano essere orgogliosi delle loro prestazioni durante la maggior parte del meeting, essendo rispettivamente 8°, 10° e 11° sulla griglia di partenza della finale. Il britannico ha concluso cinque gare nella Top-5, il polacco si è sempre piazzato tra il terzo e l’ottavo posto, mentre l’italiano ha avuto un solo inconveniente in un giro di formazione, ma ha lottato costantemente in testa per il resto del tempo.
“La finale è stata molto intensa, con continui duelli che non sempre hanno favorito i nostri piloti. Keeble è scivolato al 17° posto dal settimo di inizio gara. Bertuca è stato molto veloce e ha concluso il primo giro in quinta posizione, ma si è dovuto accontentare del 15° posto dopo alcuni contatti. Anche Pasiewicz è sceso in 24a posizione.”
Pedro Hiltbrand, iscritto come wild card, ha approfittato dell’evento per testare nuove soluzioni per le prossime gare. Per quanto riguarda Ella Stevens, ha ottenuto la sua migliore qualificazione in questo Campionato europeo 2022, confermando i suoi progressi.
OK-Junior: Kutskov, la sorpresa dell’inizio della finale
Con temperature che superavano spesso i 30°C sotto il sole e un circuito che metteva chiaramente in evidenza le qualità del telaio, il Birel ART-TM Racing di Kirill Kutskov ha fatto miracoli a Franciacorta. Posizionato in terza fila nelle manche, Kutskov è sempre riuscito a guadagnare posizioni in ciascuna delle sue gare di venerdì e sabato. Ha ottenuto tre secondi posti e ha concluso la Super Heat al terzo posto. La sua straordinaria partenza lo ha portato addirittura in testa alla finale! Purtroppo, ha rinunciato a lottare per la vittoria dopo una collisione al settimo giro, con molti rimpianti.
Reno Francot ha subito la stessa sorte fin dall’inizio! È stato un peccato, perché aveva quasi fatto un percorso perfetto nelle manche, facendo segnare il miglior giro in una di esse. La competitività dell’olandese non è stata premiata in Lombardia! L’italiana Zoe Florescu Potolea non ha avuto vita facile dopo una sessione di prove cronometrate che sperava fosse migliore.
“l risultato è una cosa, la prestazione è un’altra e questa conferma le scelte tecniche fatte. Questo è un buon segno prima del Campionato del mondo di Sarno”, ha concluso Riccardo Longhi.
Une fin de Championnat d’Europe sous le signe de la performance
Le Championnat d’Europe FIA Karting 2022 des catégories OK et OK-Junior s’est terminé sur le circuit de Franciacorta, où les ensembles Birel ART-TM ont clairement affiché une grande compétitivité. Avec trois pilotes dans les 11 premiers sur la grille de départ de la finale en OK et Kirill Kutskov leader au début de la finale OK-Junior, le Birel ART Racing Team espérait fêter un excellent résultat lors de ce grand rendez-vous international. C’était sans compter un enchaînement de faits de course qui a anéanti tous les efforts effectués par l’équipe technique et les motoristes. Les rouges auront assurément une revanche à prendre au Championnat du Monde en septembre.
Team manager du Birel ART Racing Team, Riccardo Longhi n’en croyait pas ses yeux… “Nous savons que le karting nous fait vivre des moments de joie et des déceptions. Mais cette fois, la désillusion que nous avons connue à Franciacorta fut difficile à accepter, car plusieurs de nos pilotes partaient avec des objectifs élevés au regard des résultats obtenus aux essais chronométrés, dans les manches de qualification et lors des super-manches. Malheureusement, il n’a parfois fallu que quelques tours pour voir nos espoirs s’envolent lors des deux finales. C’est évidemment décevant, car nous bénéficions cette saison d’un package redoutable.”
Rapidité et régularité en OK
Dimanche avant les finales, Harley Keeble, Karol Pasiewicz et Cristian Bertuca pouvaient se montrer fiers de leur parcours durant la plus grande partie du meeting, puisqu’ils se retrouvaient respectivement 8e, 10e et 11e sur la grille de départ de la finale. Le Britannique a terminé 5 courses dans le top-5, le Polonais s’est toujours classé entre la 3e et la 8e place, tandis que l’Italien n’a connu qu’une seule mésaventure dans un tour de formation, mais s’est constamment battu aux avant-postes le reste du temps.
“La finale fut d’une grande intensité, avec des duels incessants qui n’ont pas toujours souri à nos pilotes. Keeble a rétrogradé 17e alors qu’il était 7e en début de course. Très rapide, Bertuca a bouclé le 1er tour en 5e position, mais il a dû se satisfaire de la 15e place après quelques contacts. Pasiewicz a également chuté jusqu’en 24e position.”
Engagé en “wild card”, Pedro Hiltbrand a profité de l’épreuve pour tester de nouvelles solutions en vue des prochaines courses. Quant à Ella Stevens, elle a réussi sa meilleure qualification dans ce Championnat d’Europe 2022, confirmant ses progrès.
OK-Junior : Kutskov, la surprise du début de finale
Avec une température dépassant fréquemment les 30° sous le soleil et un circuit qui mettait clairement en valeur les qualités du châssis, le Birel ART-TM Racing de Kirill Kutskov a fait des merveilles à Franciacorta. Placé en 3e ligne dans les manches, Kutskov a toujours réussi à gagner des places dans chacune de ses courses du vendredi et du samedi. Il décrochait notamment trois 2es places et bouclait la super Manche en 3e position. Son remarquable départ le propulsait même en tête de la finale ! Malheureusement, il abandonnait la lutte pour la victoire suite à un accrochage dans le 7e tour, avec beaucoup de regrets.
Reno Francot a connu le même sort dès le départ ! Dommage, il avait quasiment réussi un sans-faute dans les manches, réalisant un meilleur tour dans l’une d’elles. La compétitivité du Néerlandais fut bien peu récompensée en Lombardie ! L’Italienne Zoe Florescu Potolea n’a pas eu la partie facile après une séance chronométrée qu’elle espérait meilleure.
“Le résultat est une chose, la performance en est une autre et celle-ci nous conforte dans les choix techniques réalisés. C’est de bon augure avant le Championnat du Monde à Sarno,” a conclu Riccardo Longhi.
