Charouz Racing System is ready for one of the most anticipated weekends of the year at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps Circuit in Belgium. The Czech squad will face the challenge of the iconic track this next weekend, after the three-week long break gave to the team and the drivers the chance to recharge the batteries and come back stronger for the triple header that will lead the 2022 FIA Formula 3 season to its end.
Spa is amongst the drivers’ favorite circuits and it’s always a test worth noting in order to value the progress that they have made since the beginning of the season. László Tóth, Christian Mansell and Francesco Pizzi all have already raced here in the past years so they will count on their previous experiences in a single-seater to better master these demanding but yet fascinating 7.004 meters.
The track facility has been updated recently, with some newly designed run-off areas and some slight layout changes at turn 11, making it even more difficult and selective. Something that could be a little advantage particularly for Mansell, who’s had the chance to race in the Euroformula Open weekend last June after the end of the renewal works. Moreover, the weather forecast predicts a quite high possibility of rain for Saturday and Sunday, opening several more different scenarios and widening the possibilities of clinching a good result.
Free Practice and Qualifying will go underway on Friday as usual, while the Sprint Race will go green on Saturday morning and the Feature Race on Sunday morning.
Antonín Charouz, team owner
“We’re really looking forward to this one, we’re three weekends away from the end of the season and we definitely don’t want to miss any chance to prove our value, especially at such beautiful and historical tracks like this one, but also like Zandvoort and Monza. Spa in particular is always an exciting experience, to get a good result on this really demanding circuit has always a special taste and we’ll give our best to bring home at least some points. The track is really long and that will surely mean that we’ll have slightly larger margins in Qualifying, so that’s definitely a chance we need to take in order to start the races in the upper half of the grid. The weather could be another key factor, as often happens at Spa, and our guys already had a few chances to drive the car in the wet, so we’re prepared for anything and won’t give up for any reason”.
László Tóth
“I’m very much looking forward to get into the car after the break, I think it’s going to be a really exciting triple header and we’re gonna have a lot of fun. Spa-Francorchamps is one of the best and most difficult tracks in the world, we still have to get our chance to prove our worth and I can’t think of a better place to do that, so I really can’t wait to start racing again”.
Christian Mansell
“I’m excited for Spa, I hope it will turn out to be a good round. Obviously after the break I’m looking forward to drive again, we’re moving forward and we’ll try to move even further than we already did in Hungary. I already had a positive weekend here last June racing in Euroformula Open, I’ll try to use that experience on the renewed track to have a little bit of extra advantage. I’m ready and I can’t wait, I’m really positive about our potential and let’s see what we can do”.
Francesco Pizzi
“After the summer break we recharged the batteries and got ready for the last three rounds of the season. Hopefully we’ll be able to score some good results starting from this weekend at Spa, we know we have the potential to be in the upper half of the pack and we’re determined to get there. It’s really important to finish this season on a high and recover from the last few unlucky races, so we’re focused on giving our 110% in these last three weekends”.
