The countdown has begun for the Val di Fassa Bike-Volvo Cup 2014. The seventh edition of the mountain bike granfondo race will take place as always in Moena, and will qualify as an official test in the UCI MTB Marathon World Series as well as for the circuit Trek Zerowind Off Road Challenge and Alpine Pearls MTB Cup.
Here is a race that enjoys enormous international appeal and will bring together thousands of fat tyre enthusiasts and champions. Among those who have confirmed their participation are Leonardo Paez, Kristian Hynek, Juri Ragnoli, Tony Longo, Massimo Debertolis, Sally Bigham, Elena Gaddoni, Elena Giacomuzzi and last but not least Daniela Veronesi, the current Italian Mountain Bike National Champion in the marathon, Belgian Roel Paulissen, World marathon Champion in 2008 and 2009, Lorenza Menapace, undisputed star of endurance races, and Matthias Leisling No. 1 ranking in the UCI MTB Marathon World Series
The event will be set against three test-driven routes that wind between Moena and Alpe Lusia, passing through Soraga, Pozza and Vigo di Fassa, also known as the “Marathon” covering 64.2 km (2760 metres of altitude change), the 49 km “Classic” (2106 metres altitude change) and the “Short”, covering 33.4 km (957 metres altitude change).
Many new initiatives have been introduced by the amateur sports association called Sportiva Dilettantistica Val di Fassa Sport Events, the company that organizes the race, together with Technical Manager Cristian Zorzi: from its “Moving Mileposts” to the special “Mountain Grand Prix” prize, not to mention the fact that you can participate on the Short route in the race with e-bikes.
