Pyramids are getting increasingly closer, with the third stage of 2015 Pharaons Rally that has passed the turning point with a varied day as usual with many kind of terrains. A wide loop of 346 kilometres, 319 of which of selective section, that has seen the victory of Yazeed Al Rajhi among the cars, Diocleziano Toia among the bikes and Rafal Sonik in the quad category.
Being fifth at the start this morning and exploiting this at his best, Yazeed Al Rajhi (Toyota) has doubled the success of the first stage again in front of Nasser Al Attiyah (Mini), who is definitely registered in second position. The gap between the two is 1’28’’ that becomes 3’38’’ for Erik Van Loon (Mini), finally actor of high level stage. Only fourth is the winner of yesterday, the Russian Vladimir Vasilyev (Mini), anyway only four minutes behind from the winner.
Emil Kneisser (Nissan) has been winner of the T2, while the Polaris of Jean-Paul Van Bomen has settled everyone right in T3.
In the general classification Nasser Al Attiyah is still on top, with an advantage fallen to 2’16’’ over Yazeed Al Rajhi, while Vladimir Vasilyev is detached by 5’47’’.
Among the bikes victory would have gone to the Italian Diocleziano Toia (KTM), only 48’’ over the dominant of the Pharaons, the Emirates pilot Mohammed Al Balooshi (KTM). Conditional is a must, as many bike pilots have wasted time searching for a waypoint inserted in their GPS with wrong data. Decisions will be taken by the international jury. Third place has gone to Rafal Sonik (Yamaha), probable winner – obviously among quads, while we find the Polish Jakub Piatek (KTM) at the fourth place preceding Juan Carlos Salvatierra (KTM).
The general classification – also unofficial – sees on top always Al Balooshi with 6’39’’ over Piatek and 9’11’’ over Salvatierra. Sonik is absolute fourth, leading the quad classification with four minutes and half over Mohammed Abu Issa.
Tomorrow the fourth stage of the Pharaons that will get back among the cathedral dunes of Sitra with a stage of 457 kilometres, of which 343 are selective section.
Yazeed Al Rajhi (SAU – Toyota): “We had two “big” moments during the stage, landing on the nose of the car. I had a little bit of sore neck. 100 km before the finish we got a puncture but we were able to win the stage. When we arrived to the finish we realized that we overtook Malysz, but we didn’t see him.”
Nasser Al Attiyah (QAT-MINI): “After 80 km we overtook Vasilyev and we opened the track, but it was not easy, even if I remembered it because it had been last year stage. 10 km before the finish line, while passing some sand hills, we got stuck for two minutes… So three second positions and we are still leading in the overall.”
Erik Van Loon (NLD – Mini): “The first perfect day, finally! We spent two days to set up the car and today everything worked well. The stage was hard not only for the car but for the body too, because of the stones, but we used the soft suspension and it was a good decision. Finally we are back on track!”
Vladimir Vasilyev: (RUS – Mini): “It’s a fact that if you open the track you loose time and this is what happened today. In the three days or us or Nasser were in front, we are fighting against each other every single day and that is very exciting. We have a good starting position tomorrow.”
Rafal Sonik: (POL – Yamaha): “It was a particular day, someway good, someway bad, like a picture of the life. In my quad I use the bib-mousse, to avoid punctures, but with the heat the tyres became too hard and in the rocky sections it my quad was very difficult to drive. Than I played my joker with a two meters high jump, because I was in the dust and I went straight to a turn. Fortunately where I landed it was soft and I didn’t crash, it it was rocky I would have destroyed my quad.”
Mohammed Al Balooshi: (ARE – KTM): “Today I learned a lot from Nasser. With his great experience, when he made a mistake he remained calm and found the good way soon. I did a good stage and I’m happy: when you see that you are right in navigation and you get the result it’s extremely satisfying.”
Kuba Piatek (POL – KTM): “At 40 km I was leading opening the track, after Salvatierra’s mistake. The speed was not so high but I’m happy because here in Egypt I’m improving a lot my navigation skills.”

Al Rajhi, Toia e Sonik sull’altare nella terza tappa
Le Piramidi si avvicinano sempre più, con la terza tappa il Pharaons Rally 2015 ha superato il giro di boa presentando una giornata come sempre molto varia, con terreni di ogni tipo. Un’ampia boucle di 346 chilometri, 319 dei quali di prova speciale, che ha visto la vittoria di Yazeed Al Rajhi tra le auto, Diocleziano Toia tra le moto e Rafal Sonik nella categoria quad.
Sfruttando al meglio la posizione di partenza, quinto questa mattina, Yazeed Al Rajhi (Toyota) ha bissato il successo della prima tappa, ancora una volta davanti a Nasser Al Attiyah (Mini), ormai abbonato al secondo posto. 1’28’’ il distacco tra i due, che diventa di 3’38’’ per Erik Van Loon (Mini), finalmente autore di una tappa di alto livello. Solo quarto il vincitore di ieri, il russo Vladimir Vasilyev (Mini), comunque staccato di soli quattro minuti dal vincitore.
Emil Kneisser (Nissan) è stato il vincitore della T2, mentre il Polaris di Jean-Paul Van Bomen ha messo tutti in riga nella T3.
In classifica generale Nasser Al Attiyah resta al comando, con un vantaggio sceso a 2’16’’ su Yazeed Al Rajhi, mentre Vladimir Vasilyev è staccato di 5’47’’.
Tra le moto la vittoria sarebbe andata all’italiano Diocleziano Toia (KTM), per soli 48’’ sul dominatore del Pharaons, il pilota degli Emirati Mohammed Al Balooshi (KTM). La classifica generale, ufficiosa anch’essa, vede sempre al comando Al Balooshi con 6’39’’ su Piatek e 9’11’’ su Salvatierra. Sonik è quarto assoluto, guidando la classifica quad con quattro minuti e mezzo su Mohammed Abu Issa.
Domani la quarta tappa del Pharaons tornerà nuovamente nelle dune cattedrale di Sitra con una tappa di 457 chilometri, 343 dei quali di prova speciale.
Yazeed Al Rajhi (SAU – Toyota): “Oggi abbiamo avuto due momenti “topici” atterrando sul muso della macchina due volte. Mi fa un po’ male il collo. 100 km prima dell’arrivo abbiamo forato, ma nonostante questo abbiamo vinto la tappa. All’arrivo abbiamo realizzato che avevamo superato Malysz, ma non abbiamo visto quando è successo.”
Nasser Al Attiyah (QAT-MINI): “Dopo 80 km abbiamo superato Vasilyev e abbiamo aperto la pista: non è stato per niente facile, anche se mi ricordavo qualcosa visto che era come la tappa dell’anno scorso. A dieci chilometri dall’arrivo, ci siamo insabbiati su una collinetta e abbiamo impiegato due minuti a ripartire… Tre secondi posti fino ad ora, ma l’importante è che siamo ancora in testa.”
Erik Van Loon (NLD – Mini): “Finalmente il primo giorno perfetto! Abbiamo impiegato due tappe a trovare la messa a punto della macchina ed oggi è andata molto bene. La tappa è stata dura non solo per il mezzo ma anche per il fisico, a causa delle tante pietre, ma fortunatamente abbiamo utilizzato le sospensioni morbide. Ora possiamo considerarci in gara!”
Vladimir Vasilyev: (RUS – Mini): “E’ un dato di fatto che quando parti per primo perdi del tempo ed è quello che è accaduto oggi. In tre giorni siamo sempre stati io e Nasser a guidare la corsa, battagliamo tra noi e ogni singolo giorno è molto eccitante. Domani partiremo con una buona posizione.”
Diocleziano Toia (ITA – KTM): “Questa mattina sono partito un po’ addormentato, fino alle prime dune dove mi ha passato il quad di Abu Issa. A quel punto mi sono svegliato e ho cominciato a spingere ripassando il qatarino e successivamente Salvatierra. Sono arrivato al waypoint mancante e ho visto che stavano tutti girando, e dopo una breve ricerca ho deciso di ripartire e tutti gli altri mi hanno seguito. Era la prima volta che aprivo la pista ed è stato divertente, anche se ero sempre assalito da mille dubbi.”
Rafal Sonik: (POL – Yamaha): “E’ stata una giornata particolare, alle volte buona alle volte pessima, una sorta di fotografia della vita. Sul mio quad uso le bib-mousse per evitare forature, ma oggi con il calore si sono gonfiate troppo e gli pneumatici erano molto duri, rendendo il quad difficile da guidare nei tratti rocciosi. Poi ho giocato un bel jolly, con un salto di due metri: sono andato dritto a una curva a causa della polvere. Fortunatamente sono atterrato in una zona soffice e non sono caduto. Se fosse stata roccia avrei distrutto il quad.”
Mohammed Al Balooshi: (ARE – KTM): “Oggi ho imparato molto da Nasser: Con la sua grande esperienza, dopo aver commesso un errore ha mantenuto freddezza e lucidità ritrovando subito la strada giusta. Ho corso una buona tappa e sono molto felice: quando vedi che ti riece bene navigare e che alla fine ottieni il risultato è un’enorme soddisfazione.”
Kuba Piatek (POL – KTM): “Dopo soli 40 chilometri di gara mi sono ritrovato ad aprire la pista, a causa dell’errore di Salvatierra. La velocità non era molto elevata, ma sono soddisfatto perché qui in Egitto sto migliorando molto le mie capacità di navigazione.”
