Amsterdam, Dresden and Ghent join Barcelona at the head of the ECM

Turisme de Barcelona, which presides the Executive Council of European Cities Marketing (ECM) in its second two-year term of office, has been joined on the council by the cities of Amsterdam, Dresden and Ghent – the main candidates to preside the body during the next term of office. The Executive Council is also made up of the cities of Genoa, Belfast, Istanbul, Ljubljana, Lyon, Oslo and Prague.

Ignasi de Delàs, Deputy Director General of Turisme de Barcelona and current president of the ECM, attended its annual meeting, held in Madeira (Portugal), which focused on the sharing economy and tourism. On this third anniversary of its presidency, Turisme de Barcelona considers that “the ECM has tackled the challenges that tourism faces in all areas, particularly in cities”.

Its aim, during its last year at the head of the ECM, is to continue increasing the organization’s members, with the incorporation of cities mainly from southern Europe. Turisme de Barcelona will strive to improve the services offered to members and work toward ensuring that the ECM continues to be the voice of urban tourism in Europe in dealings with institutions and the tourist industry

The ECM is a non-profit organisation that aspires to boost the competitive capacity of Europe’s leading cities – destinations that receive some 500 million tourists each year -, so as to contribute to the creation of attractive top-range destinations.
