The first round of the FIA Karting European Championship – OK & Junior was held in France on the Angerville circuit.
It was the scene of serious clashes generating many incidents. The competitiveness of the equipment and the talent of the drivers had much to do to overcome crashes and penalties. Only Alex Irlando was successful with his 8th position in OK to show the potential of the Birel ART Racing team.
However, analysis of the French competition reveals a very interesting level of performance from the Birel ART / TM Racing factory team, both in OK and OK-Junior. The Angerville circuit unfortunately generated a large number of contacts as well as spoiler penalties. At Lissone the team is already looking forward to the 2nd meeting at Genk to highlight the quality of the equipment and the work done by everyone.
“Of course, we cannot be satisfied with the result at Angerville,” said Ronni Sala, President of Birel ART. “But I want to congratulate the team for their efforts and our drivers for their commitment. I would first highlight the competitiveness of Coluccio in OK, the significant progress from Irlando and his third fastest time in the final which demonstrated the performance of our equipment, the convincing performance from Nepveu and the fighting spirit of Maya Weug. In Junior, not finishing highly in Timed Practice weighed heavily thereafter. Camara however managed to climb from 61st place to 15th in the Final, and Ressico D’Aloiso and Bertuca also made positive progress while their team-mates were fighting bravely despite penalties and delays.”
Starting well with 10th in Qualifying, Luigi Coluccio was somewhat delayed in the heats before giving up at the start of the Final after a collision. After strong heats where he managed to avoid a lot of the traps at Angerville, Alex Irlando drove a strong Final and moved up to 8th place having achieved the 3rd best time. Thomas Nepveu regained ground in the heats and took another nine places in the Final before being penalised for an unhooked spoiler. For his debut, the Thai driver Sutumno Thanapongpan kept improving despite the difficult conditions.
The Juniors of Birel ART Racing were very competitive in the last free practice, but lacked success in the timed practice, which complicated their Qualifying Heats. Despite his 61st time and two spoiler penalties, Rafael Camara managed to qualify and moved up 18 places in the Final to reach 15th. Lorenzo Ressico D’Aloiso followed a similar course, finishing 19th with a 10-place gain in the Final, while Cristian Bertuca retired after two laps after taking 26 places in the heats. Elliott Vayron was much more competitive than his results showed. He was fastest crossing the finish line of his last heat in 2nd place, but he was sanctioned several times over the weekend.
The female drivers of the Richard Mille Young Talent Academy have had varying fortunes. Maya Weug was once again very combative in OK, obtaining notably a 3rd and a 2nd place in her heats. Two retirements however hampered her score and she had to retire at the start of the Final after another clash. Julia Ayoub did not have an easy job in the second half of the pack, and two retirements following race incidents prevented her from Qualifying.
The Birel ART Racing team is preparing to take on new challenges in less than two weeks for the opening of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ and KZ2 at Wackersdorf, Germany.
Irlando emerge dal caos ad Angerville
Disputata in Francia sul circuito di Angerville, la prima prova del Campionato europeo FIA Karting – OK e Junior è stata teatro di scontri agguerriti che hanno generato molti incidenti. La competitività dei mezzi insieme al talento dei piloti hanno faticato a prevalere sui contatti e le penalità. Soltanto Alex Irlando è riuscito a cavarsela con il suo ottavo posto in finale nella OK a testimonianza del potenziale del team Birel ART Racing.
Tuttavia, l’analisi della competizione francese rivela un livello di performance molto interessante per i Birel ART/TM Racing della squadra ufficiale, sia nell’OK che nell’OK-Junior. Il circuito di Angerville ha generato numerosi contatti e penalità per spoiler. A Lissone attendono già con impazienza il secondo appuntamento a Genk per mostrare la qualità del mezzo e del lavoro svolto da tutti.
“Sicuramente non possiamo ritenerci soddisfatti dei risultati ottenuti ad Angerville”, ha dichiarato Ronni Sala, Presidente di Birel ART. “Ma voglio complimentarmi con la squadra e con i piloti per l’impegno dimostrato. Vorrei sottolineare prima di tutto la competitività di Coluccio nella OK, la significativa progressione di Irlando e il suo terzo miglior tempo in finale che ha dimostrato la performance del nostro mezzo, la convincente prestazione di Nepveu e la combattività di Maya Weug. Nella Junior, il fatto di non aver avuto dei risultati positivi nelle prove cronometrate ha successivamente pesato. Camara è tuttavia riuscito a rimontare dal 61° al 15° posto in finale, Ressico D’Aloiso e Bertuca hanno girato in modo positivo, mentre i loro compagni di squadra si sono coraggiosamente battuti nonostante le penalità e i ritiri.”
Partito bene con il suo decimo tempo nelle prove cronometrate, Luigi Coluccio nelle manche si è ritrovato leggermente arretrato e ha poi dovuto rinunciare quasi subito alla finale a causa di un contatto. Autore di manche solide nel corso delle quali è riuscito a evitare la maggior parte delle insidie della pista di Angerville, Alex Irlando ha fatto una bella finale rimontando fino all’ottavo posto e realizzando il terzo miglior tempo. Thomas Nepveu ha riguadagnato terreno nelle manche ed è rimontato di altre nove posizioni in finale per poi essere penalizzato per spoiler staccato. In occasione del suo debutto, il tailandese Sutumno Thanapongpan ha continuato la sua progressione nonostante le difficili condizioni.
I Junior di Birel ART Racing si sono rivelati molto competitivi nelle ultime prove libere, ma non hanno centrato l’obiettivo nelle prove cronometrate, risultato che ha complicato lo svolgimento delle loro rispettive manche di qualificazione. Nonostante il suo 61° tempo e due penalità per spoiler, Rafael Camara è riuscito a qualificarsi e a rimontare diciotto posizioni in finale fino a raggiungere il quindicesimo posto. Lorenzo Ressico D’Aloiso ha seguito un percorso simile terminando al 19° posto, guadagnando dieci posizioni in finale, mentre Cristian Bertuca ha rinunciato dopo due giri, dopo essere rimontato di ventisei posizioni nelle manche. Elliot Vayron è stato molto più competitivo di quanto abbiano dimostrato i suoi risultati. Ha fatto segnare il giro più veloce tagliando il traguardo della sua ultima manche al secondo posto, ma è stato penalizzato a più riprese nel corso del week-end.
Il comparto femminile della Richard Mille Young Talent Academy ha ottenuto risultati diversi. Maya Weug si è rivelata ancora una volta molto combattiva nella OK, ottenendo un terzo e un secondo posto nelle manche. Due ritiri hanno tuttavia peggiorato il suo risultato ed è anche stata costretta al ritiro subito alla partenza della finale per un nuovo contatto. Julia Ayoub non ha avuto vita facile nella seconda metà del gruppo: due ritiri a causa di incidenti di gara le hanno impedito di qualificarsi.
Il team Birel ART Racing si appresta a raccogliere due nuove sfide tra meno di due settimane in occasione dell’apertura del Campionato europeo FIA Karting KZ e KZ2 a Wackersdorf in Germania.
Irlando émerge du chaos à Angerville
Disputée en France sur le circuit d’Angerville, la première épreuve du Championnat d’Europe FIA Karting – OK & Junior a été le lieu d’affrontements sévères générant une multitude d’incidents. La compétitivité du matériel comme le talent des pilotes ont eu beaucoup de mal à prendre le pas sur les accrochages et les pénalités. Seul Alex Irlando est parvenu à tirer son épingle du jeu avec sa 8e position finale en OK pour témoigner du potentiel du team Birel ART Racing.
Pourtant, l’analyse de la compétition française révèle un niveau de performance très intéressant du côté des Birel ART/TM Racing de l’équipe officielle, tant en OK qu’en OK-Junior. Le tracé d’Angerville générait malheureusement un grand nombre de contacts ainsi que de pénalités de spoiler. Du côté de Lissone, on prépare déjà avec impatience le 2e rendez-vous de Genk pour mettre en lumière la qualité du matériel et du travail accompli par tous.
« Bien sûr, nous ne pouvons pas nous montrer satisfaits par le résultat d’Angerville », déclarait Ronni Sala, Président de Birel ART. « Mais je tiens à féliciter l’équipe pour ses efforts et nos pilotes pour leur engagement. Je soulignerais en premier lieu la compétitivité de Coluccio en OK, la progression significative d’Irlando et son 3e meilleur temps en finale qui démontrait la performance de notre matériel, la prestation convaincante de Nepveu et la combativité de Maya Weug. En Junior, le fait de n’avoir pas réussi les essais chronométrés a pesé lourd par la suite. Camara a cependant réussi à remonter de la 61e place à la 15e position en finale, Ressico D’Aloiso et Bertuca ont également évolué de manière positive tandis que leurs équipiers se battaient courageusement malgré les pénalités et les abandons. »
Bien parti avec son 10e temps au chrono, Luigi Coluccio était quelque peu retardé dans les manches avant de renoncer au départ de la finale après un accrochage. Auteur de manches solides au cours desquelles il parvenait à éviter une grande partie des pièges d’Angerville, Alex Irlando effectuait une belle finale et remontait jusqu’à la 8e place en ayant réalisé le 3e meilleur temps. Thomas Nepveu regagnait du terrain dans les manches et reprenait encore 9 places en finale avant d’être pénalisé pour un spoiler décroché. Pour ses débuts, le Thaïlandais Sutumno Thanapongpan ne cessait de progresser malgré les conditions difficiles.
Les Juniors de Birel ART Racing se révélaient très compétitifs dans les derniers essais libres, mais manquaient de réussite aux essais chronométrés, ce qui compliquait singulièrement le déroulement de leurs manches qualificatives. Malgré son 61e chrono et deux pénalités de spoiler, Rafael Camara parvenait à se qualifier et remontait encore 18 places en finale pour atteindre le 15e rang. Lorenzo Ressico D’Aloiso suivait un parcours similaire en terminant 19e avec un gain de 10 places en finale, tandis que Cristian Bertuca renonçait après deux tours après avoir repris 26 places dans les manches. Elliott Vayron était beaucoup plus compétitif que ne le révélaient ses résultats. Il signait notamment le meilleur temps en franchissant la ligne d’arrivée de sa dernière manche en 2e position, mais il était sanctionné à plusieurs reprises durant le week-end.
Les pilotes féminines de la Richard Mille Young Talent Academy ont connu des fortunes diverses. Maya Weug se montrait une nouvelle fois très combative en OK , obtenant notamment une 3e et une 2e place en manche. Deux abandons aggravaient cependant son score et elle devait renoncer également dès le départ de la finale après un nouvel accrochage. Julia Ayoub n’avait pas la partie facile dans la 2e moitié du peloton,deux abandons suite à des incidents de course l’empêchant de se qualifier.
Le team Birel ART Racing s’apprête à relever de nouveaux défis dans moins de deux semaines pour l’ouverture du Championnat d’Europe FIA Karting KZ et KZ2 à Wackersdorf en Allemagne.
