There is no shortage of reasons for satisfaction after the first competition of 2020 for the Birel ART Racing team on the Adria circuit at the opening of the WSK Super Master Series.
In OK, it was Maya Weug’s strong progress that caught the eye alongside Clayton Ravenscroft’s solid run. Tymoteusz Kucharczyk made a perfect debut for the team in OK-Junior in addition to the fine performance from Cristian Bertuca.
“We had the pleasure of recording some good performances already,” explained Luca Filini, the team manager of Birel ART Racing. “Kucharczyk is very fast in OK-Junior, and so is Bertuca. This confirms that we have a good base and that we have worked well in the off-season. Our new recruits are gradually getting their bearings and we have several reasons for confidence. In OK, Pirttilahti proved his speed without being able to score a result, Ravenscroft is already on the pace and Weug made a good comeback. It’s still too early to evaluate our level in Mini, but Olivieri fought well. We will have time to learn a few lessons from this first experience before the next races at Lonato.”
Kucharczyk on the right track
At the wheel of his RK/TM Racing OK-Junior kart, Tymoteusz Kucharczyk repeated his 2nd place in Qualifying Practice after the WSK Champions Cup. Motivated and advised by the presence of Robert Kubica himself, the young Pole gave his best to come out 4th in the heats with a fastest lap in the race. Meanwhile, Cristian Bertuca was in the top 10 of the heats, finishing with a significant 2nd place. The two drivers then each set the fastest time in their respective Prefinals to the great satisfaction of the team with a strong 3rd place finish for Kucharczyk. Kucharczyk lost ground at the beginning of the Final, but finished in 8th place while Bertuca made a tremendous 19-place comeback despite a race neutralisation with four laps under full yellow. Andrea Frassinetti was far from the lead in the Timed Qualifying session and faced several incidents in the heats so was unable to qualify for the Final.
Weug impresses in OK
Supported again this year by the Richard Mille Young Talent Academy, Maya Weug turned the situation around by regaining no less than 22 places during the Qualifying Heats. She continued her effort in the Final stages to reach an excellent 12th position by moving up another 13 places. Among the newcomers to the team, Clayton Ravenscroft was convincing in the heats despite a spoiler penalty. He regained 10 places to finish 8th on the Final finish line before being penalised down to 15th position. Nikolas Pirttilahti managed to qualify despite a spoiler penalty in the Prefinal and moved up nine places to 23rd in the final. Kobe Pauwels improved by 12 places thanks to some solid runs, but had to retire in the Prefinal. Finally, Matteo Massetani started the heats in the second half of the field with all the risks that this entails. His chances were definitively compromised because of a penalty and a retirement.
The only official Birel ART driver in Mini, Emanuele Olivieri fought hard to get back into the heats, but two spoilers penalties didn’t help his situation. However, he regained six places in Prefinal B without being able to qualify for the Final.
The next competition for the Birel ART Racing team will be the Winter Cup at Lonato in less than two weeks, with the debut of the KZ2 category.
Un inizio di stagione pieno di promesse ad Adria
I motivi di soddisfazione non mancano dopo la prima gara 2020 del team Birel ART Racing sul circuito di Adria in occasione dell’apertura della WSK Super Master Series. Nella OK è la straordinaria progressione di Maya Weug che ha catturato l’attenzione insieme al solido percorso di Clayton Ravenscroft. Tymoteusz Kucharczyk è entrato alla perfezione nel team nella OK-Junior oltre alla bella prestazione di Cristian Bertuca.
“Abbiamo avuto il piacere di registrare già alcune buone performance”, ha spiegato Luca Filini, Team Manager di Birel ART Racing. “Kucharczyk è molto veloce nella OK-Junior e anche Bertuca. Ciò conferma che abbiamo una buona base e che abbiamo lavorato bene nella stagione intermedia. Le nostre nuove leve cominciano a prendere progressivamente i loro punti di riferimento e ci sono molti fattori che consolidano la nostra fiducia. Nella OK, Pirttilahti ha dato prova della sua velocità senza riuscire a concretizzare, Ravenscroft è già ben inserito e la Weug ci ha regalato una bella rimonta. È ancora troppo presto per valutare il nostro livello nella Mini, ma Olivieri si è battuto con onore. Avremo il tempo di trarre qualche insegnamento da questa prima esperienza prima delle prossime gare a Lonato.”
Kucharczyk sulla giusta via
Al volante del suo RK/TM Racing OK-Junior, Tymoteusz Kucharczyk ha ripetuto il secondo posto delle prove di qualificazione dopo la WSK Champions Cup. Motivato e consigliato dalla presenza di Robert Kubica in persona, il giovane polacco ha dato il meglio di sé conquistando il quarto posto nelle manche con un giro più veloce in gara. Nel frattempo, Cristian Bertuca è rientrato nella Top-10 delle manche terminando con un secondo posto significativo. I due piloti sono poi riusciti a realizzare ognuno il miglior tempo della loro rispettiva prefinale per la somma soddisfazione del team con un bel terzo posto per Kucharczyk. Quest’ultimo ha perso terreno all’inizio della finale, ma ha concluso all’ottavo posto mentre Bertuca è riuscito a realizzare una formidabile rimonta di 19 posizioni nonostante la neutralizzazione di 4 giri con “full course yellow”. Andrea Frassinetti si è classificato lontano dalle prime posizioni durante le prove cronometrate e ha dovuto affrontare numerosi incidenti nelle manche senza riuscire a qualificarsi in finale.
La Weug stupisce nella OK
Anche quest’anno supportata dalla Richard Mille Young Talent Academy, Maya Weug ha recuperato bene la situazione rimontando di 22 posizioni durante la manche di qualificazione. Ha proseguito il suo sforzo nelle fasi finali fino a raggiungere un eccellente dodicesima posizione recuperandone ancora tredici. Tra i nuovi arrivati nel team, Clayton Ravenscroft si è dimostrato convincente nel corso delle manche nonostante una penalità per spoiler. Ha rimontato di dieci posizioni terminando ottavo sul traguardo finale prima di essere penalizzato e retrocesso in quindicesima posizione. Nikolas Pirttilahti è riuscito a qualificarsi nonostante uno spoiler staccato nella prefinale e ha realizzato una rimonta di nove posizioni fino al 23° posto in finale. Grazie a delle manche solide, Kobe Pauwels ha migliorato di dodici posizioni, ma ha dovuto ritirarsi nel corso della prefinale. Infine, Matteo Massetani ha affrontato le manche nella seconda metà del gruppo con tutti i rischi che ciò comporta. Le sue possibilità sono state definitivamente compromesse a causa di una penalità e di un ritiro.
Unico pilota ufficiale Birel ART nella Mini, Emanuele Olivieri si è battuto per rimontare nelle manche, ma due spoiler staccati non hanno risolto la situazione. Tuttavia, ha rimontato di sei posizioni nella prefinale B senza potersi qualificare per la finale.
La prossima gara del team Birel ART Racing sarà la Winter Cup a Lonato tra meno di due settimane con l’inizio delle gare della categoria KZ2.
Un début de saison plein de promesses à Adria
Les motifs de satisfaction ne manquent pas après la première compétition 2020 du team Birel ART Racing sur le circuit d’Adria à l’occasion de l’ouverture de la WSK Super Master Series. En OK, c’est la forte progression de Maya Weug qui a retenu l’attention aux côtés du solide parcours de Clayton Ravenscroft. Tymoteusz Kucharczyk a parfaitement réussi son entrée dans l’équipe en OK-Junior en plus de la belle prestation de Cristian Bertuca.
« Nous avons eu le plaisir d’enregistrer déjà quelques bonnes performances », expliquait Luca Filini, le team manager de Birel ART Racing. « Kucharczyk est très rapide en OK-Junior, et Bertuca également. Cela confirme que nous possédons une bonne base et que nous avons bien travaillé durant l’intersaison. Nos nouvelles recrues prennent progressivement leurs repères et plusieurs indices renforcent notre confiance. En OK, Pirttilahti a prouvé sa rapidité sans parvenir à concrétiser, Ravenscroft est déjà dans le coup et Weug nous a gratifiés d’une belle remontée. Il est encore trop tôt pour évaluer notre niveau en Mini, mais Olivieri s’est bien battu. Nous allons avoir le temps de tirer quelques enseignements de cette première expérience avant les prochaines courses, à Lonato. »
Kucharczyk sur la bonne trajectoire
Au volant de son RK/TM Racing OK-Junior, Tymoteusz Kucharczyk a récidivé à la 2e place des essais qualificatifs après la WSK Champions Cup. Motivé et conseillé par la présence de Robert Kubica en personne, le jeune Polonais a donné le meilleur de lui-même pour sortir 4e des manches avec un meilleur tour en course. Pendant ce temps, Cristian Bertuca rentrait dans le top 10 des manches en terminant par une 2e place significative. Les deux pilotes réalisaient ensuite chacun le meilleur temps de leur préfinale respective pour la plus grande satisfaction de l’équipe avec une belle 3e position à la clé pour Kucharczyk. Celui-ci perdait du terrain au début de la finale, mais concluait au 8e rang tandis que Bertuca réussissait une formidable remontée de 19 places malgré la neutralisation de 4 tours sous full yellow. Andrea Frassinetti se classait loin de la tête lors des chronos et faisait face à plusieurs incidents dans les manches sans parvenir à se qualifier en finale.
Weug impressionne en OK
Soutenue à nouveau cette année par la Richard Mille Young Talent Academy, Maya Weug a bien redressé la situation en reprenant pas moins de 22 places durant les manches qualificatives. Elle poursuivait son effort dans les phases finales pour atteindre une excellente 12e position en progressant encore de 13 places. Parmi les nouveaux venus dans l’équipe, Clayton Ravenscroft s’est montré convaincant au cours des manches malgré une pénalité de spoiler. Il a regagné 10 places en terminant 8e sur la ligne d’arrivée finale avant d’être pénalisé en 15e position. Nikolas Pirttilahti réussissait à se qualifier malgré un spoiler décroché en préfinale et remontait de 9 places au 23e rang de la finale. Grâce à des manches solides, Kobe Pauwels améliorait de 12 places, mais devait renoncer au cours de la préfinale. Enfin, Matteo Massetani abordait les manches dans la 2e moitié du peloton avec tous les risques que cela comporte. Ses chances étaient définitivement compromises à cause d’une pénalité et d’un abandon.
Seul pilote officiel Birel ART en Mini, Emanuele Olivieri s’est bien battu pour remonter dans les manches, mais deux spoilers décrochés n’ont pas arrangé sa situation. Il regagnait pourtant 6 places dans la préfinale B sans pouvoir se qualifier pour la finale.
La prochaine compétition du team Birel ART Racing sera la Winter Cup de Lonato dans moins de deux semaines avec l’entrée en piste de la catégorie KZ2.
