Held in difficult weather conditions, the second Richard Mille Young Talent Academy highlighted Mexico’s Rafael Villagomez among the 17 young talents gathered at Le Mans.
After rigorous physical, mental and sporting evaluations, Rafael made the difference with his ability to progress, suggesting excellent potential in motor sport. Richard Mille has shown his confidence in him by offering him the chance to participate in the 2020 French F4 Championship.
Amanda Mille, Director of Customer Marketing, praised all the participants before revealing the name of the winner: “The constant fog on the Bugatti circuit made the young drivers task particularly difficult. We were pleasantly surprised by their seriousness and motivation in these harsh conditions. Despite the changes we have had to make to the programme, they have all demonstrated great abilities and I am sure they have a bright future ahead of them. The jury was unanimous in selecting Rafael Villagomez, a promising talent who has shown strong potential for adaptation and progress in every circumstance. With no experience in motor racing, he was able to significantly improve his lap times despite the reduced visibility. His performances, among the fastest at the end of the day, completed an already very positive physical and mental assessment. We are delighted to support him in 2020 in the French F4 Championship and in the longer term, if he fulfils the hopes we place in him.”
As the Richard Mille Young Talent Academy rule states, the commonality between the 17 drivers aged 14 to 18, from 14 nations and four continents, remains their remarkable karting experience on the Birel ART Group chassis, the partner of this unique scholarship. Chosen by their respective Birel ART distributor or by the Birel ART Racing Team in Maya Weug’s case, they were invited to participate free of charge in the two and a half days of the second edition of the RMYTA from 3rd to 5th December 2019 at Le Mans.
Within the FFSA Academy facilities, they were first subjected to physical and mental assessments prepared by Formula Medicine, Dr. Riccardo Ceccarelli’s famous driver training facility. Then, an instructor from the FFSA Academy introduced them to the basics of driving the F4 FIA on the Bugatti circuit. The day ended with a one-on-one interview with members of the panel in the presence of the parents.
On Thursday, 5th December, the driving sessions on the Bugatti circuit had to be adapted to the reduced visibility caused by fog. The contenders learned the track behind the safety car before having two 30-minute sessions in the early afternoon. Seven drivers were then selected for the final phase. Giorgios Markogiannis (GRC), Satumno Thanapongpan (THA), Craig Tanic (FRA), Pablo Perez De Lara (MEX), Mac Clark (CAN), Shrien Naidoo (ZAF) and Rafael Villagomez (MEX) faced the clock one last time in the fog for 15 minutes.

Disputata in condizioni climatiche difficili, la seconda edizione della Richard Mille Young Talent Academy ha consacrato il messicano Rafael Villagomez che si è distinto tra i 17 giovani talenti riuniti a Le Mans. Al termine di rigorosi test psicofisici e sportivi, Rafael ha fatto la differenza grazie alla sua capacità di progressione che lascia presagire un eccellente potenziale nei motorsport. Richard Mille stesso manifesta la propria fiducia offrendogli la partecipazione al Campionato di Francia F4 2020.
Amanda Mille, direttrice marketing clienti, si è complimentata per il livello di tutti partecipanti prima di svelare il nome del vincitore: “La presenza insistente della nebbia sul circuito Bugatti ha complicato il compito dei giovani piloti. Siamo stati piacevolmente sorpresi dalla loro serietà e dalla loro motivazione in queste difficili condizioni. Nonostante i cambiamenti che abbiamo dovuto apportare al programma, hanno tutti dato prova di eccellenti capacità e sono certa che li attende un futuro radioso. La commissione esaminatrice è stata unanime nell’attribuire la vittoria a Rafael Villagomez, promettente talento che ha dimostrato in qualsiasi circostanza un forte potenziale di adattamento e di progressione. Senza nessuna esperienza nelle gare automobilistiche, è stato capace di migliorare in modo significativo i propri tempi in pista nonostante la visibilità ridotta. Le sue performance, che sono state tra le migliori a fine giornata, hanno completato un bilancio psicofisico già molto positivo. Siamo contenti di offrirgli il nostro supporto nel Campionato di Francia F4 2020, e perché anche non a più lungo termine, se concretizza le speranze che abbiamo risposto in lui.”
Come stabilito dal regolamento della Richard Mille Young Talent Academy, il punto in comune tra i 17 piloti di età compresa tra i 14 e i 18 anni, provenienti da 14 nazioni e 4 continenti, rimane il percorso fatto nel karting su telai Birel ART Group, partner di questo evento unico nel suo genere. Scelto dal loro rispettivo distributore Birel ART o dal Team Birel Art Racing per Maya Weug, sono stati invitati a partecipare gratuitamente alle due giornate e mezzo della seconda edizione della RMYTA dal 3 al 5 dicembre 2019 a Le Mans.
All’interno dei locali della FFSA Academy sono stati prima di tutto sottoposti ai dei test psicofisici preparati da Formula Medicine, la famosa struttura del Dott. Riccardo Ceccarelli dedicata alla preparazione dei piloti. Poi, un istruttore della FFSA Academy li ha avviati alle basi della guida della F4 FIA sul circuito Bugatti. La giornata si è conclusa con un colloquio individuale con i membri della commissione in presenza dei genitori.
Giovedì 5 dicembre, le sessioni sul circuito Bugatti hanno dovuto essere adattate alla riduzione di visibilità causata dalla nebbia. Gli aspiranti piloti hanno riconosciuto il tracciato seguendo la safety car prima di avere a disposizione a inizio pomeriggio due sessioni da trenta minuti ciascuna. Alla fase finale hanno avuto accesso sette piloti. Giorgios Markogiannis (GRC), Satumno Thanapongpan (THA), Craig Tanic (FRA), Pablo Perez De Lara (MEX), Mac Clark (CAN), Shrien Naidoo (ZAF) e Rafael Villagomez (MEX) hanno affrontato un’ultima volta il cronometro nella nebbia per quindici minuti.

Disputée dans des conditions climatiques difficiles, la 2e édition de la Richard Mille Young Talent Academy a consacré le Mexicain Rafael Villagomez parmi les 17 jeunes talents rassemblés au Mans. Au terme d’évaluations physiques, mentales et sportives rigoureuses, Rafael a fait la différence par sa capacité de progression laissant présager un excellent potentiel en sport automobile. Richard Mille lui témoigne sa confiance en lui offrant sa participation au Championnat de France F4 2020.
Amanda Mille, directrice marketing clientèle a salué la valeur de tous les participants avant de révéler le nom du gagnant : « La présence insistante du brouillard sur le circuit Bugatti a singulièrement compliqué la tâche des jeunes pilotes. Nous avons été agréablement surpris par leur sérieux et leur motivation dans ces rudes conditions. Malgré les changements que nous avons dû apporter au programme, ils ont tous fait preuve d’excellentes capacités et je suis certaine qu’un bel avenir les attend. Le jury a été unanime pour récompenser Rafael Villagomez, talent prometteur qui a montré en toute circonstance un fort potentiel d’adaptation et de progression. Sans aucune expérience de la compétition automobile, il a été capable d’améliorer de manière significative ses temps en piste malgré la visibilité réduite. Ses performances, parmi les meilleures en fin de journée, ont complété un bilan physique et mental déjà très positif. Nous sommes ravis de le soutenir en 2020 dans le cadre du Championnat de France F4 et pourquoi pas à plus long terme, s’il concrétise les espoirs que nous plaçons en lui ».
Comme le veut la règle de la Richard Mille Young Talent Academy, le point commun entre les 17 pilotes de 14 à 18 ans en provenance de 14 nations et 4 continents reste leur parcours remarqué en karting sur des châssis du Birel ART Group, partenaire de ce volant unique en son genre. Choisis par leur distributeur Birel ART respectif ou par le Birel ART Racing Team pour Maya Weug, ils étaient invités à participer gracieusement aux deux journées et demie de la 2e édition de la RMYTA du 3 au 5 décembre 2019 au Mans.
Au sein des installations de la FFSA Academy, ils ont d’abord été soumis à des évaluations physiques et mentales préparées par Formula Medicine, la célèbre structure de préparation de pilotes du Dr Riccardo Ceccarelli. Puis, un instructeur de la FFSA Academy les a initiés aux bases du pilotage de la F4 FIA sur le circuit Bugatti. La journée s’achevait par un entretien individuel avec des membres du jury en présence des parents.
Jeudi 5 décembre, le roulage sur le circuit Bugatti a dû être adapté à la réduction de la visibilité causée par le brouillard. Les prétendants ont reconnu le tracé derrière la voiture de sécurité avant de disposer en début d’après-midi de deux séances de 30 minutes chacun. Sept pilotes étaient ensuite retenus pour la phase finale. Giorgios Markogiannis (GRC), Satumno Thanapongpan (THA), Craig Tanic (FRA), Pablo Perez De Lara (MEX), Mac Clark (CAN), Shrien Naidoo (ZAF) et Rafael Villagomez (MEX) affrontaient une dernière fois le chronomètre dans la brume pendant 15 minutes.
