According to data released during the Annual General Meeting of Turisme de Barcelona’s Barcelona Convention Bureau (BCB), the congresses, seminars, courses, conventions and incentive meetings held in the city were attended by a total of 589,818 delegates.
The delegates stayed in Barcelona for an average of 3.78 days.
Last year the city hosted 2,268 professional meetings. The breakdown is as follows: 311 congresses; 121 seminars or courses; and 1,836 conventions and incentive meetings. The medical sector held the highest percentage of meetings in Barcelona, accounting for 32.8% of the total number of congresses, 50.4% of the seminars and 24.3% of the conventions and incentive meetings.
153 (61 congresses and 92 conventions) of the meetings held were generated directly by the Barcelona Convention Bureau. In addition, no fewer than 226 new congresses have already confirmed the Catalonian capital as their venue between now and 2021.
