“La Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali ha rappresentato un test molto importante per la nostra squadra” spiega il direttore sportivo Massimo Codol. “La corsa si è rivelata ancora più dura del previsto.
Il meteo ha contribuito a rendere molto selettiva la gara; nella seconda tappa, con arrivo a Sogliano, il gruppo ha affrontato condizioni davvero al limite. Inoltre anche la fortuna non ci ha di certo assistito. Nel finale della prima tappa Antonio Parrinello era in ottima posizione per provare a disputare lo sprint. Penso che avrebbe potuto centrare un buon piazzamento nella top10 ma è stata tagliato fuori da un caduta all’ultima rotonda. Peccato perché poi si è trascinato dietro i postumi di questa caduta nei giorni successivi. Poi c’è Silvio Giorni che il secondo giorno è stato subito messo ko da un virus. Nell’ultima tappa, molto impegnativa, Paolo Ciavatta era nel gruppetto dei migliori ma ha forato in salita, proprio in un momento cruciale”.
“Nonostante tutto ci siamo comunque confermati ancora una volta ai vertici della nostra categoria” continua a spiegare Codol, “nella classifica finale a squadre della Coppi & Bartali infatti siamo la miglior formazione continental. Antonio Parrinello, Paolo Ciavatta, Adriano Brogi e Giorgio Bocchiola sono stati molto bravi a portare a termine la corsa nonostante tutte le difficoltà. E’ un piccolo risultato ma per noi è un segnale importante che ci da fiducia e morale per il proseguo della stagione. C’è ancora molto lavoro da fare ma sappiamo di poter contare su un bel gruppo, affiatato e motivato.”
“Per molti dei nostri giovani corridori questa era la prima volta assoluta in una corsa a tappe di alto livello. Qui hanno potuto cimentarsi anche in una cronosquadre, disciplina non semplice. Complessivamente è stata un’esperienza che tornerà sicuramente utile in vista del prossimo impegno, il Tour of Croatia in programma dal 22 al 26 aprile, una corsa alla prima edizione che sulla carta si annuncia molto impegnativa” conclude il Ds Codol.
COPPI & BARTALI: LOTS OF EFFORT BUT LOTS OF EXPERIENCE

“The Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali was a very important test for our team,” explains sport director Massimo Codol. “The race turned out to be even harder than we expected. The weather conditions contributed to making the race even more selective. In the second stage the peloton were pedalling under conditions at the very limit. Plus, luck was definitely not on our side. In the final part of the first stage Antonio Parrinello was in the perfect position to try and go for it in the bunch sprint. I think he could have obtained a result in the top10 but any hope he had was quashed when he fell on the last roundabout. It’s a shame because then he was suffering from the aftereffects of this fall in the following days. On the second day Silvio Giorni was knocked out by a virus right away. In the last stage, which was very difficult, Paolo Ciavatta was in the group with the best but he got a flat at a crucial moment on a climb.”
“In spite of everything however, we confirmed ourselves once again to be at the top of our category,” continues Codol. “In the final team standings in fact we are the best continental team. Antonio Parrinello, Paolo Ciavatta, Adriano Brogi and Giorgio Bocchiola were very good to finish the race despite all the difficulties. It’s a small achievement but for us it’s an important sign that gives us faith and morale to continue in the season.”
“For many of our young riders this was their very first time in a high level stage race. They were also able to measure themselves in a team time trial, which is not a simple discipline. Overall it was an experience that will definitely turn out to be useful in our next event, the Tour of Croatia scheduled from April 22nd to the 26th. This race is in its first edition and on paper it looks like it’s going to be very challenging,” concludes DS Codol.
