It’s the inaugural stage for the 2016 UCI World Tour de Pologne. Like last year, the 73rd edition of the Polish stage race kicks off from the capital of Warsaw, with a mostly flat stage.
But first there will be an initial in-line test, in which the peloton will repeat 7 laps around a technical and demanding 13.8 km circuit that will pass straight through the heart of the city.
The basic theme for the 2016 Tour de Pologne is a historic route through Poland. This journey will set off from Radzymin, a town on the outskirts of Warsaw on the right bank of the Vistula River, which has become a symbol of popular Polish resistance in the Soviet-Polish war from 1919-1921.
Analysing the race, we can assume that the first finish line in 2016 will be a sprinters’ festival, although some brave rider will definitely try to get a jump on the fast tyres in the group. In 2015 the German legend Marcel Kittel laid down the law in the pack. In Warsaw there are sure to be plenty of high speed thrills with the sprinters’ teams, who will have fresh troops in force and won’t be squandering any chances to vie for this important victory, which will consign the first day’s winner the honour of wearing the first yellow Skandia jersey in the 2016 edition.
