Mikko Hirvonen was fastest in the opening stage of Italia Rally Sardegna.
The event kicked off with a Super Special Stage in Cagliari harbor area which hosted a very large and enthusiastic crowd. Finnish driver covered the 1.3 kilometres SSS1 Città di Cagliari in 1:19.1 with his Ford Fiesta RS WRC. Only 0.2 behind him Belgian Thierry Neuville (Hyundai i20) and world champion Sebastien Ogier (VW Polo R), with Juho Hanninen fourth and Jari-Matti Latvala fifth toghether with Kris Meeke and his Citroen DS3. Britain driver had a problem with the front of the car when he hit the asphalt a little heavily after a jump. A little problem with the steering in a very narrow corner for Robert Kubica, who finished 12th in his Fiesta.

HIRVONEN IN TESTA DOPO LA PRIMA SPECIALE AL RALLY ITALIA SARDEGNA
Alghero (SS) – Cagliari 5 giugno 2014. Mikko Hirvonen è stato il più veloce nella prova d’apertura del Rally Italia Sardegna. La sesta prova del Campionato del Mondo Rally si è aperta con la Super Prova Speciale ricavata nella zona portuale di Cagliari, che ha ospitato i protagonisti del Mondiale e quelli del Campionato Italiano Rally e un foltissimo pubblico, letteralmente impazzito per lo show. Il contesto ha creato un’atmosfera molto apprezzata dai piloti. Hirvonen ha coperto gli 1, 3 chiometri della speciale “Città di Cagliari” in 1’19”1 al volante della Ford Fiesta RS WRC. A soli 2 decimi dal finlandese si sono piazzati il belga Thierry Neuville (Hyundai i20) and il campione del mondo Sebastien Ogier (VW Polo R), con Juho Hanninen quarto e Jari-Matti Latvala quinti a parimerito con Kris Meeke e la sua Citroen DS3. Il pilota britannico ha avuto un problema all’anteriore dell’auto dopo aver toccato l’asfalto atterrando da un salto. Un piccolo problema di manovra in una curva molto stretta ha condizionato la prestazione di Robert Kubica, che ha concluso in dodicesima posizione su Ford Fiesta.
