A complicated day for Ecuadorian/American driver Juan Manuel Correa, with ups and downs, downs and ups and several trajectories, like many of the banked corners of the renovated Zandvoort circuit. In the morning’s free practice he opened the classifications with his teammate Frederik Vesti, and everything invited optimism, especially on a track, which as we have seen, is almost impossible to overtake.
A morning to learn the circuit, with a session shortened by incidents that have been common in all categories, including F1. Everything looked set for a good qualifying, but sometimes things don’t go the way you imagine and mistakes pile up. This time, a mistaken strategy by the team and a mistake by the driver himself, who didn’t have time for much more, ruined the qualifying and that here seems to be a sentence for the whole weekend, but until the three races are over we won’t be able to make a real assessment of the weekend
Juan Manuel commented:
“Quite a difficult day at Zandvoort. I just didn’t do a good job in practice and qualifying”, said Juan Manuel as soon as he got out of the car.
“It took me a long time in practice to learn the track and get into a good pace. The simulation was done on the previous circuit and the banking, which is much bigger than before, has completely changed the references.
“In qualifying I made a very good step forward, but I had a big mistake on my fast lap. I was quite disappointed with myself for that mistake, but even if I had put it all together, I would have enough speed to be in the top 15 or top 13, no more,” said Juan Manuel.
“We also have to analyse the team’s strategy in qualifying, using only two sets of tyres was not optimal. I think both parties, drivers and team, could have done better, but especially me, with my mistake, I complicated the weekend for myself. In the end it’s going to be another long weekend, starting the races from the back on a track where you can’t overtake.” Commented Juan Manuel, who will start 25th on the grid for tomorrow’s race.

Un día complicado para el piloto ecuatoriano/americano Juan Manuel Correa, con altos y bajos, subidas y bajadas y varias trayectorias, como muchas de las curvas peraltadas del remozado circuito de Zandvoort. Por la mañana en los entrenamientos libres comenzó abriendo la clasificación, junto a su compañero Frederik Vesti, y todo invitaba al optimismo, especialmente en una pista, que como se ha visto, es casi imposible adelantar.
Una mañana para aprenderse el circuito, con una sesión acortada por incidentes que han sido habituales en todas las categorías, incluida la F1. Todo parecía listo para una buena calificación, pero a veces las cosas no salen como uno se las imagina y los errores nunca llegan solos. Esta vez una estrategia errónea del equipo y un fallo del propio piloto, al que no le quedaba tiempo para mucho más, dieron al traste con la calificación y eso aquí parece una sentencia para todo el fin de semana, pero hasta que no se disputen las tres carreras no se podrá hacer un balance real del fin de semana.
Esto comentaba Juan Manuel:
“Día bastante complicado en Zandvoort. Simplemente no hice un buen trabajo en la práctica y tampoco en la calificación”, comentaba Juan Manuel nada más bajarse del coche.
“Me tomó mucho tiempo en la práctica aprender la pista y coger buen ritmo”, La simulación se hizo en el circuito anterior y los peraltes, mucho más grandes que antes, han cambiado por completo las referencias”.
“En la qualy hice muy buen paso hacia adelante, pero cometí un gran error en mi vuelta rápida. Bastante decepcionado conmigo mismo por ese error, pero igual si hubiese puesto todo junto no teníamos más velocidad que para estar en un top 15 o top 13, no más”, asumía Juan Manuel
“Tenemos también que analizar la estrategia del equipo en la calificación, el usar solamente dos juegos de llantas no fue lo óptimo. Creo que ambas partes, pilotos y equipo, podíamos haberlo hecho mejor, pero especialmente yo con mi error me compliqué el fin de semana. Al final va a ser otro fin de semana largo, con las tares carreas comenzando desde muy atrás en una pista donde no se puede adelantar”.
Comentaba Juan Manuel que saldrá 25º en la parrilla de salida de la carrera de mañana.
