In this third race of the weekend the starting order was that of Friday’s qualifying and Juan Manuel finally started 23rd after the driver who hit him in the second race, in which he suffered a wrist injury, did not take part.
It was a very competitive race, with numerous fights that led to several incidents and the appearance of the safety car. The FIA F3 championship is very reminiscent of kart racing, where the drivers fight fiercely, and the gaps are almost non-existent.
Juan Manuel, as he said yesterday, was hoping to have fun and so he did, fighting numerous battles with other drivers at every braking point. In the end, finishing sixteenth is a result that doesn’t make up for the points and the possible podium lost on Saturday afternoon, but in view of the way the weekend went, it’s a good way to avoid leaving with a bad taste in his mouth.
Juan Manuel was aiming for a podium already before coming to Austria and he was in that position during the second race, but the most important thing is that he has worked with the team to find some things that will help him in the future, especially when it comes to getting the most out of the tyres, which have a very narrow range of use and the temperature of the tyres can makes the car good or bad. This is the point that will require the most attention.
Juan Manuel Correa:
“So today Race 3 we had a decent comeback up to P16 up from 24th in the grid but not really happy about the performance during the race. I was struggling to pass, to get closer to people. It was a big fight as always, but still we finished the race and got the laps. We tried a new break pump and it seemed to go well so I’m happy about that. We will take that to Budapest where the main focus will be to improve Friday, improve Qualy and get better starting positions for the races”, commented Juan Manuel.
