El argentino Lucio Álvarez junto al español Armand Monleon, subcampeones del mundo de la Copa FIA de Rallye Raids 2021, se han clasificado en sexta posición en la segunda etapa del Rallye Dakar y ascienden a la tercera posición de la general a 40’53 del líder Nasser Al Attiyah y su Toyota Gazoo Racing oficial.
Lucio y Armand siguen siendo los primeros argentino y español en la prueba a bordo del Toyota Hilux T1+ preparado por Overdrive, siendo el primer Toyota privado en carrera y segundo Toyota de la general.
La etapa debía de haber terminado en Al Artawiyah, donde los pilotos debían llegar en etapa maratón, sin asistencia exterior, pero las lluvias torrenciales obligaron a la organización a hacer cambios en el recorrido, terminando la etapa en el siguiente campamento, en Al Qaisumah, lo que les obligó a realizar un enlace final de 270km, elevando el recorrido total de los 585km previstos a casi 800 Km.
Los pilotos se han enfrentado a numerosos cordones de dunas en los cuales se ha puesto de manifiesto el buen pilotaje de Lucio y la acertada navegación de Armand en las zonas complicadas y en los terrenos fuera de pista.
“Hemos superado una nueva etapa que se ha caracterizado por ser muy rápida, con dunas rotas en las que no era fácil enlazar unas con otras. “Navegar” de una a otra era imposible. Hemos tenido buen ritmo, sin errores y el coche ha ido mejor. Hicieron algunas modificaciones en la caja de cambios y fue mucho mejor. Mañana van a hacer algunos cambios en la suspensión haciendo algunas mejoras y espero que vayamos mejorando día a día”, comentaba Lucio, que de momento ha alcanzado el objetivo que parecía más difícil, estar entre los tres primeros de la general. Queda mucha carrera y cualquier imprevisto o un despiste te aleja de los puestos de cabeza. Entre el tercer lugar que ocupa Lucio y el octavo, que ocupa el saudí Al Rajhi, compañero suyo en Toyota Overdrive hay solamente 8 minutos de diferencia en la general, por tanto las palabras de Lucio reflejan la dimensión real de una carrera muy competida, en la que el día a día es fundamental. Quizás el lema que mejor se puede aplicar al Dakar como filosofía durante la prueba, es el que utiliza muy a menudo el Cholo Simeone, hay que ir “partido a partido”, es decir, día a día en el rallye más duro del mundo.
Así fue la especial
KM 0 – La especial comienza con pistas rápidas y arenosas en una gran meseta, nuevamente es imperativo respetar los rumbos. Muchas pistas.
KM 20 – La pista comienza a ser más sinuosa y ondulada entre dunas pequeñas.
KM 35 – Fuera de pista en dunas de nivel 1 durante 5 km y luego pistas rápidas de arena con cruces de pequeños cordones de dunas de nivel 1.
KM 98 – CP1 y continúan pistas sinuosas y onduladas de arena; luego se alternan cruces de cordones de dunas con pistas rápidas y arenosas.
KM 207 – NEU ALL, punto de combustible para las motos y continua la alternancia de pistas arenosas rápidas entre cordones de dunas y pasos de pequeños cordones.
KM 271 – Fuera de pista en dunas de gran belleza de nivel 2
KM 323 – Fin dunas y meseta arenosa rápida +/- fuera de pista
Así será la tercera etapa: Al Qaisumah- Al Qaisumah

La etapa de mañana martes 4 de enero tendrá salida y llegada en el campamento de Al Qaisumah, con un recorrido entre dunas en la primera mitad, para después convertirse en pista, a priori más sencillas, pero donde los errores de navegación se pagarán caros, como en la etapa 1B de ayer domingo.

Lucio and Armand are still the first Argentine and Spanish in the test aboard the Toyota Hilux T1 + prepared by Overdrive, being the first private Toyota in the race and second Toyota overall.
The stage should have ended in Al Artawiyah, where the pilots had to arrive in a marathon stage, without outside assistance, but torrential rains forced the organization to make changes to the route, ending the stage in the next camp, in Al Qaisumah, This forced them to make a final 270km link, raising the total route of the 585km planned to almost 800km.
The drivers have faced numerous dune ridges in which Lucio’s good handling and Armand’s successful navigation in difficult areas and off-piste terrain have been demonstrated.
“We have passed a new stage that has been characterized by being very fast, with broken dunes in which it was not easy to connect with each other. “Navigating” from one to another was impossible. We had a good pace, no mistakes and the car went better. They did some modifications to the gearbox and it was so much better. Tomorrow they are going to make some changes to the suspension making some improvements and I hope that we will improve day by day ”, commented Lucio, who at the moment has reached the goal that seemed more difficult, to be in the top three of the general classification. There is a long career left and any unforeseen event or an oversight takes you away from the top positions. Between the third place that Lucio occupies and the eighth, that occupies the Saudi Al Rajhi, his teammate in Toyota Overdrive, there is only 8 minutes of difference in the general, therefore Lucio’s words reflect the real dimension of a very competitive race, in the one that the day to day is fundamental. Perhaps the motto that can best be applied to the Dakar as a philosophy during the test, is the one that the Cholo Simeone uses very often, you have to go “game by game”, that is, day by day in the toughest rally in the world.

KM 20 – The track begins to become more sinuous and undulating between small dunes.
KM 35 – Off-piste in level 1 dunes for 5 km and then fast sand tracks with crossings of small level 1 dune ridges.
KM 98 – CP1 and continue winding and undulating sandy tracks; then crossroads of dune cords alternate with fast and sandy tracks.
KM 207 – NEU ALL, fuel point for motorcycles and continues the alternation of fast sandy tracks between ridges of dunes and steps of small ridges.
