Price keeps rival Walkner at bay as Sainz slips off car pace

Australian leads #rallyedumaroc bike race at midway point over dunes. #tobyprice kept his nose in front of Red Bull KTM Factory bike team-mate #matthiaswalkner at the midway point of the 2018 #rallyedumaroc as Carlos Sainz slipped off the car pace.

Here is all you need to know: – Price led after the prologue and kept a quick pace at the head of the two-wheel field, despite having to open the road ahead of rivals Walkner and Sam Sunderland. – The Australian was closed down by the Austrian, but not enough to lose the lead as Briton Sunderland’s rear-wheel problem saw him slide down the order. – Price, 31, said: “I lost a little time finding my way and I think that’s where Matthias was able to make up the three minutes, but overall I am really happy.” – 2018 Dakar #rally champion Walkner revealed: “Navigation was very challenging. A lot of the pistes are still hard to follow due to them being washed out by the rain, but I managed to complete the whole stage without making too many mistakes.” – Sunderland, 29, added: “I nursed the bike home. We still have three days left, so I’ll continue to get some more kilometres on the bike to prepare for Dakar.”

Meanwhile in the car category, Qatar’s #nasseralattiyah dominated again to build a large gap back to Frenchman #cyrildespres and Poland’s #kubaprzygonski. Al-Attiyah drove his Toyota Hilux expertly over the dunes to bank a 15-minute lead from Despres with Przygonski staying on track for the finish he needs to claim the 2018 FIA Cross Country #rally World Cup title as Carlos Sainz struggled to keep pace. – Przygonski, 33, declared: “We were trying all day to go on the maximum speed. We had two flat tyres along the way, but the rest was OK. At the end of the stage we were #racing with Martin Prokop and #cyrildespres. It nice to be involved in these kind of good spirited fights.”
