E’ fatta, adesso sono otto! E’ bastato un quinto posto a Tony Cairoli (KTM), nella prima manche della gara MXGP del Gran Premio del Brasile, per portare a casa l’ottavo titolo di Campione del Mondo, il sesto consecutivo nella classe regina del motocross.
Un titolo già quasi certo alla vigilia visto che Cairoli si è presentato al penultimo appuntamento del mondiale con 81 punti di vantaggio sul diretto rivale Jeremy Van Horebeek. Nello sport però, soprattutto a questi livelli, nulla è scontato e così Cairoli ha dovuto lottare e stringere i denti fino alla fine anche sull’insidiosa terra rossa del Brasile per fare definitivamente sua la tabella rossa del numero uno del mondiale con una prova di anticipo sulla conclusione della stagione.
Quinto in gara1 e poi, già con l’ottavo titolo in tasca, terzo in gara2 Cairoli ha ottenuto la terza piazza finale nel GP del Brasile e sul podio è scattata la festa per questo straordinario traguardo che consacra Tony nella leggenda del motocross.
Il mondiale 2014 è stata una cavalcata trionfale per Tony Cairoli come sempre accompagnato sia nella mischia della gara che sul podio dai suoi inseparabili e inconfondibili stivali Sidi Crossfire2 giallo fluo, ormai diventati la firma del campione siciliano. Crossfire2 che con Tony si confermano gli stivali numero uno al mondo, il top di gamma della collezione offroad Sidi Sport, imbattibili su ogni tipo di terreno e con ogni condizione climatica.
Ed è così che lo storico numero 222, che contraddistingue da sempre Cairoli in gara, si è trasformato per l’occasione in 222+2: due+due+due+due=otto. A quasi 29 anni il ragazzo che arriva dalla Sicilia ha fatto davvero tanta strada in sella alla sua moto. Otto titoli in dieci anni di attività professionale con 72 GP vinti sui 170 disputati e 118 podi complessivi. Una scia vincente straordinaria che Tony è destinato ad allungare ancora. Attualmente Tony Cairoli è il secondo pilota più vincente nella storia del motocross, dietro al belga Stefan Everts, che nel passato è stato uno dei grandi della scuderia Sidi Sport, che comanda con i suoi dieci titoli iridati. Questo record per Tony ormai è lì vicino, a un passo.
A completare la splendida domenica dei colori Sidi Sport ci ha pensato Romain Febvre anche lui accompagnato dagli stivali Sidi Crossfire2. Il francese della Husqvarna nella MX2, la classe cadetta del motocross, con il primo posto in gara1 e il terzo in gara2 ha colto la sua prima vittoria in un gran premio della carriera in questa categoria.

8–time World Champion in motocross
He did it, now there are eight! It was enough for Tony Cairoli (KTM) to take a fifth place in the first race of the MXGP Gran Prix in Brazil to take home his eight World Championship title, his sixth consecutive in the reigning class of motocross. The title was almost already guaranteed on the eve of the race, considering that Cairoli showed up at the second-to-last event in the World Series with an 81-point advantage over his closest rival, Jeremy Van Horebeek. In sport, particularly at these levels, nothing is left to chance and so Cairoli had to grit his teeth and battle it out to the finish on the insidious red terrain in Brazil in order to make it definitively to the top of the red chart as number one in the World Series, with one race left to go until the end of the season.
He came in fifth in race1 and then, with his eighth title under his belt, Cairoli came in third in race2 to obtain overall third place in the final rankings in the Brazilian Grand Prix. There was a fantastic celebration on the podium to mark this extraordinary achievement, which consecrates Tony into the legend of motocross.
The 2014 World Series was a triumphant ride for Tony Cairoli who, as always, stands out in the thick of the race and on the podium with his unmistakable, yellow fluo Sidi Crossfire2 boots. Together with Tony, the top-of-the-line model in Sidi Sport’s off-road collection has been confirmed as the number one boot in the world, unbeatable on any type of terrain and in any kind of weather.
And thus the historic number 222, which has always distinguished Cairoli in the race, was transformed for the occasion in to 222+2: two+two+two+two=eight. At the age of almost 29, this kid from Sicily has really come a long way on the back of his motorcycle. Eight titles in ten years as a professional rider, with 72 GPs won out of 170 races and a total of 118 podiums. It’s an extraordinary winning streak that Tony is destined to continue. At the moment Tony Cairoli is the second most victorious pilot in the history of motocross, after Belgian Stefan Everts, who was also once a great pilot from the Sidi stables, who holds that record with his ten World Championship titles. For Tony this record is getting closer and closer.
Rounding out a splendid Sunday for the Sidi Sport colours was Romain Febvre, who also wears Sidi Crossfire2 boots. In the MX2, the motocross cadet class, the Frenchman from Husqvarna won first place in race1 and third in race2 to capture his first GP career victory in this category.
