Postponed by a few weeks for safety reasons, the WSK Champions Cup has just launched the international season on the Italian circuit of Adria with more than 335 participants from 51 countries. Adrien Renaudin of the Sodi Racing Team never left the top three in the KZ2 category before finishing in 2nd position. Five of the eight CPB Sport drivers qualified for the Final and Arthur Carbonnel reached 8th place. Meanwhile, under the responsibility of Jean-Philippe Guignet, the youngsters experienced a baptism of fire in the official Sodikart structure, with the chance to benefit from the advice of Bas Lammers.
Julien Dexmier, manager of the Sodi Racing Team, commented: “The weekend proved to be very interesting with strong participation. The circuit of Adria is very particular, especially with its bumpy track, and does not favour our chassis, especially for the younger ones. Nevertheless, the work done at the end of last season paid off and the performance was already there. In KZ2, the close collaboration with CPB Sport is perfectly effective. Adrien Renaudin had a very good, calm meeting. All of the CPB Sport drivers were satisfied with the competitiveness of their equipment. We can regret that the crash in the Final for the very fast Senna Van Walstijn prevented him from fighting for the podium in the end. The 8th place for Arthur Carbonnel confirms his strong potential. In the Junior class, our drivers still lack experience, but the equipment works well and they are there to learn. Finally, Louis Cochet’s speed in Mini was really good for an almost novice driver, which is very encouraging for the future.”
Renaudin already in great shape
Adrien Renaudin immediately revealed himself as one of the best KZ2 drivers of the WSK Champions Cup which gathered 54 riders for the opening of the season. The 2018 European Champion started by taking pole position and continued at the head of the Qualifying Heats. Slightly delayed at the start of his Prefinal, he fought valiantly in the Final to come back to 2nd position on the finish line. Adrien therefore revealed his competitiveness and that of his Sodi / TM Racing from his first competition, a strong sign for the 2021 season that is about to begin.
CPB Sport maintains its excellent reputation
Making common cause with Adrien Renaudin, the eight drivers entered in the Sodi / TM Racing karts of Paul Bizalion’s team were able to take advantage of top class equipment. The Dutchman Senna Van Walstijn was 7th fastest in the Timed Qualifying sessions and was fighting for 4th place in the Final when an incident caused him to drop back and deprived him of a possible battle for the podium. There is still one driver left to watch this season. Arthur Carbonnel managed to come back to 3rd in his Prefinal before finishing in a very promising 8th place in the Final. Starting far back, Thomas Imbourg completed the best race of his young career in KZ2 thanks to his last two heats in the top 10. He continued to improve in the Final stages and finished in 16th position. Brad Benavides had started strongly and finished 9th after the heats, but he had to retire in the Final, as did Marco Valenti.
Baptism of fire in OK-Junior
As Jean-Philippe Guignet expected, the first race for the young OK-Junior recruits wasn’t easy. The management of Qualifying with only two laps to use the tyres is not yet familiar to them. The intensity of the battles in the pack is another parameter to be integrated for them. Cathal Clark didn’t start as far back as his team-mates and he was able to reach the Prefinal despite some difficult laps. Arthur Dorison was burdened with three spoiler penalties, while Nathan Tye Jnr. made a good comeback after two retirements.
Interesting debut in Mini
Louis Cochet did well in his first international event. Despite his limited experience in racing, he showed good speed in a category new to Sodikart.
The Sodi drivers will be back on track in Adria next weekend for the start of the WSK Super Master Series. This time Bas Lammers will be racing alongside Adrien Renaudin to prepare the European KZ Championship, which will start in Adria in two months time.

Bon départ avec la 2e place de Renaudin en WSK Champions Cup
Décalée de quelques semaines pour des raisons sanitaires, la WSK Champions Cup vient de lancer la saison internationale sur le circuit italien d’Adria en présence de plus de 335 participants venus de 51 pays. Pilote du Sodi Racing Team, Adrien Renaudin n’a jamais quitté le top 3 de la catégorie KZ2 avant de conclure en 2e position. Cinq des huit pilotes CPB Sport se sont qualifiés en finale et Arthur Carbonnel a atteint le 8e rang de la compétition. Pendant ce temps, sous la responsabilité de Jean-Philippe Guignet, les jeunes effectuaient leur baptême du feu sous la structure officielle Sodikart, avec la chance de pouvoir bénéficier des conseils de Bas Lammers.
L’analyse de Julien Dexmier, manager du Sodi Racing Team : « Le week-end s’est avéré très intéressant avec une forte participation. Le circuit d’Adria est très particulier, notamment avec sa piste bosselée, et n’avantage pas nos châssis, notamment pour les plus jeunes. Le travail effectué en fin de saison dernière a néanmoins porté ses fruits et la performance était déjà au rendez-vous. En KZ2, la collaboration étroite avec CPB Sport est parfaitement efficace. Adrien Renaudin a réalisé un très bon meeting avec beaucoup de calme. Tous les pilotes CPB Sport étaient satisfaits de la compétitivité de leur matériel. On peut regretter que l’accrochage en finale du très rapide Senna Van Walstijn l’ait empêché de se battre jusqu’au bout pour le podium. La 8e place d’Arthur Carbonnel confirme son fort potentiel. En Junior, nos pilotes manquent encore d’expérience, mais le matériel fonctionne bien et ils sont là pour apprendre. Enfin, la vitesse de Louis Cochet en Mini était vraiment bonne pour un pilote quasiment débutant, ce qui est très encourageant pour la suite ».
Renaudin déjà en super forme
Adrien Renaudin s’est tout de suite révélé comme l’un des meilleurs KZ2 de la WSK Champions Cup qui rassemblait 54 pilotes pour l’ouverture de la saison. Le Champion d’Europe 2018 commençait par réaliser la pole position et poursuivait en tête des manches qualificatives. Légèrement retardé au départ de sa préfinale, il se battait vaillamment en finale pour revenir en 2e position sur la ligne d’arrivée. Adrien révélait ainsi sa compétitivité et celle de son Sodi / TM Racing dès sa première compétition, un signe fort pour la saison 2021 qui commence.
CPB Sport fidèle à son excellente réputation
Faisant cause commune avec Adrien Renaudin, les huit pilotes engagés sur les Sodi / TM Racing du team de Paul Bizalion ont pu profiter d’un matériel au top. Le Néerlandais Senna Van Walstijn signait le 7e meilleur temps des chronos et se battait en finale pour la 4e place quand un incident l’a fait rétrograder et le privant d’une possible bataille pour le podium. Il reste un des pilotes à suivre cette saison. Arthur Carbonnel a réussi à revenir 3e de sa préfinale avant de terminer à une très prometteuse 8e place finale. Parti de loin, Thomas Imbourg a effectué la plus belle course de sa jeune carrière en KZ2 grâce à ses deux dernières manches dans le top 10. Il continuait à progresser lors des phases finales et concluait en 16e position. Brad Benavides avait commencé fort et pointait 9e à l’issue des manches, mais il devait renoncer en finale, tout comme Marco Valenti.
Baptême du feu en OK-Junior
Comme Jean-Philippe Guignet s’y attendait, la première course des jeunes recrues OK-Junior n’a pas été simple. La gestion des chronos avec seulement deux tours pour exploiter les pneumatiques ne leur est pas encore familière. L’intensité des bagarres dans le peloton est un autre paramètre à intégrer pour eux. Parti moins loin que ses équipiers, Cathal Clark a pu atteindre les préfinales malgré des manches difficiles. Arthur Dorison a été accablé de trois pénalités pour spoiler décroché, tandis que Nathan Tye Jnr s’est bien repris après deux abandons.
Débuts intéressants en Mini
Louis Cochet n’a pas démérité lors de sa première épreuve internationale. Malgré son expérience limitée en compétition, il a affiché une bonne rapidité dans une catégorie nouvelle pour Sodikart.
Les pilotes Sodi seront de nouveau en piste à Adria le week-end prochain pour le début de la WSK Super Master Series. Cette fois Bas Lammers sera aux côtés d’Adrien Renaudin pour préparer le Championnat d’Europe KZ qui commencera à Adria dans deux mois.
