After the Pyrenees in the Principality of Andorra in 2017 and the Alps of Alta Savoia in 2018, now it is the turn of the Bellunesi Dolomites in Alleghe to host the European Championship of the Spartan Race 2019.

On Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th of June, the Trifecta week-end will once again touch down in the magical territory of the Dolomites, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage in 2009. After the success of the 2018 edition, this year the bar is being raised; in fact, the event will serve as the grand finale of the European Championship series, to award titles in the individual and team categories. This event has reached some impressive numbers, with more than five thousand participants expected to attend. It will be a valuable occasion for Alleghe and the entire territory to attract and involve the greater public, who will come not only for the race, but also for the variety of unique, exciting and adrenaline-inducing experiences to be had here.
THE EVENT
The Spartan Race event in Alleghe will be divided into two days, for full-fledged Trifecta weekend:

Saturday, June 29 will be the hardest of the three classic formats:
• Spartan Beast, which will put the psychophysical resistance of the participants to the toughest test. The race will cover 21 km with more than 30 obstacles, and will be the last hurdle towards glory in the pursuit of the Trifecta. The fastest recorded time is 3 hours.

Sunday, June 30 is reserved for the other two categories:
• Spartan Super: the complexity and distance of the course make it a sort of middle class between the Sprint and Beast. The race covers 13 km, with more than 25 obstacles placed along the route. The fastest time has been estimated at just 80 minutes.
• Spartan Sprint: the day’s second event covers a shorter format suitable to all athletic levels, especially those who are taking on the Spartan Race for the first time. The race route will cover 5 km with more than 20 obstacles. The fastest time is 40 minutes.

To become a member of the Trifecta Tribe you have to achieve all three of the Spartan Race distances (Sprint, Super and Beast) in the same calendar year (January 1st – December 31st).
Over the course of the two days of racing, there will also be events for “little Spartan warriors”. Kids from the ages of 4 to 15 will be able to participate in the Spartan Kids. The route varies from 750m to 2.5km, with at least 7 or 14 obstacles. Children will be divided into different age groups.
ROAD TO ALLEGHE… WHO WILL BE THE WINNER?
After the events in Maggiora (NO), on March 30th, and in Orte (VT), on April 27th, the race that took place in Tuscany at Campi Bisenzio (FI), on Saturday, June 8th, served as the final round in the Spartan Italy National Series. The Tuscan round featured three formats: Super, Sprint and Night Sprint (individual and team tests). The event enjoyed enormous success, attracting more than 4500 athletes, proving once again that the Spartan Race holds fantastic appeal, even among the Italian public. On the Facebook Spartan Race Italy page, you can access plenty of content to get a better idea of the world and the philosophy behind the Spartan Race.
After Campi Bisenzio, now the best athletes from each category will be battling it out in Alleghe in the Bellunese Dolomites, against other “warriors” who qualified in the finals of their respective countries throughout the continent. This final round will decide who will win the Spartan Race European Title, in the individual and team categories.

THE LOCATION
The European Championship of the Spartan Race is scheduled for the last weekend in June in Alleghe, where the event will once again touch down in the heart of the Dolomites. Alleghe is a popular tourist resort in North-eastern Italy, located in the Province of Belluno, a little more than 150 km from Venice. Every year this place attracts thousands of visitors, both in winter and in summer, who come here for the modern, world-class lift facilities and awesome natural beauty. The town of Alleghe stands out like a jewel against the gorgeous background of Monte Civetta (3220m), and faces the crystal waters of its namesake lake. It is wonderful to take relaxing walks along these shores, perhaps to admire the “wall of walls” light up in stunning hues for the sunset spectacular referred to locally as the “Enrosadira”. You can also travel to the summit on foot or use the lifts to take on more challenging hikes.

In Alleghe, very close to the town centre, there is a cabin lift which provides easy, convenient access to Piani di Pezzè (1470m), the village that will serve as the start and arrival point for the Spartan Race. Piani di Pezzè offers all the services required for the most discerning sports enthusiasts, but it’s also perfect for families who just want to spend a day enjoying the outdoors. In fact, this area features three restaurants, the Ally Farm play area and the adventure park called “Civetta Adventure Park”. Anyone who wants to follow the race from a different viewpoint can take a second cabin lift up to Col dei Baldi, at 1922m, where you can watch the action on various parts of the route directly from the terrace of the lodge called rifugio Chalet Col dei Baldi.
For the summer season, the lifts will be open every day from June 22 to September 22.
