From the Far East to the old continent, from China dreaming about the 2022 Olympic Games up to Switzerland, competing in the 2020 Youth Olympic Games.
The cream of the crop of the International ski mountaineering athletes met yesterday in Villars-sur-Ollon for the second stage of the ISMF 2018 World Cup.
Two races for the week-end: sprint and individual races are scheduled for the Swiss World Cup.
Two intense ski mountaineering races made of off-track inversions, steep footpaths and incredible slopes on the snow. The Local Organising Committee, with the help of the ISMF’s staff, drew a 13,83 km track for Senior categories. Four ascents for a total amount of 1688m of positive difference in height.
Come up to this point all depends on weather. In fact on the Swiss mountains we are expecting somewhat adverse weather and snow conditions for this week-end.
Junior categories will deal with a shorter route, about 7,67km with a positive difference in height of 891m.
All positive predictions about women are for the French queen Laetitia Roux, while those for men are foggy. It means that all bets are open on who the winner might be. It is remarkable the presence of the Italian World Champion Damiano Lenzi, who will have to defend the title from his team mates Matteo Eydallin, Michele Boscacci and Robert Antonioli.
Other countries won’t stay by without fighting. The Swiss Remi Bonnet, Martin Anthamatten and Werner Marti play on the home-field. The women team, under the lead of the TC Oscar Angeloni, bets on Jennifer Fiechter, Victoria Kreuzer and Severine Pont Combe.
Also the German Anton Palzer, the Spanish Oriol Cardona Coll, the French William Bon Mardion and the Austrian Jakob Herrmann are running for the podium
On Sunday spotlights will be pointed on the jet men. In the Sprint race they will seek to cross the finish line first, looking for other great success as the surprising win of the very young Nicolò Canclini in China.
