The ISMF’s race calendar for the season 2021/22 presents numerous top events which will characterise a challenging but certainly exciting winter. The international races will start in the second half of December 2021 and end on the second weekend of April 2022.

Thomas Kähr, the President of the ISMF comments: “We are extremely proud of this varied and challenging events calendar. It demonstrates the increasing popularity of international top ski mountaineering races, especially in the run-up to the targeted inclusion of the sport into the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. We are very grateful for the support we experience by the local organizing teams.”

For the first time in the history of the international ski mountaineering, the 2021/22 World Cup circuit will count seven stages. This excellent achievement is the result of an intense evaluation process as well as of a targeted dialogue with the local race organizers and the respective national federations.

In addition to the traditional host nations, such as Italy, Andorra, Switzerland and France, Turkey will show its World Cup comeback after a few years of absence.

The Continental Championships will represent an additional important cornerstone. The European edition will be held in a renewed location for skimo athlete at Boí Taüll, Spain.

Furthermore, following the exciting races held last year, the Masters World Championships will be held again on the famous slopes of Piancavallo, Italy. Also, for the second time, the ISMF can offer the World Championships Long Distance Team in Valle d’Aosta, Italy, in collaboration with its partner La Grande Course and on the occasion of the traditional Tour du Rutor event.

For the first time, ski mountaineering will be part of the CISM Military World Winter Games in March 2022. The event had been postponed to the 2021/22 season due to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic.

Although the 2021/22 calendar is now official, the ISMF reserves the possibility to make changes due to unexpected circumstances.
