The third round of the ISMF World Cup circuit has had to be cancelled
Unfortunately the third round of the ISMF World Cup circuit, due to be held this coming week-end has had to be cancelled.
Two weeks ago the lack of snow on and around Cima d'Asta forced the organisers to move the race from Val Malene to Passo Brocon, the planned location for the Sprint due to take place the day before the Individual Race. However, the high temperatures of the last 3 days and a weather forecast predicting even higher has compromised even the alternative race route.
«It hasn't been an easy decision to make». Said Sergio Santuari, President of the Organising Committee. «Above all – continued the Ski Team Lagorai President – we have to think about safety and of developing a race route that is up to World Cup standards. We have looked at just about every possibility, but the unseasonal heat of the last few days has 'eaten' more than 200m of ascent, the snow has just disappeared. This has been a truly hard decision to make considering all the effort and work that has been put in over the past few months by the organsing team and volunteers, as well as the assistance and trust we have received from sponsors and various local government institutions. Having gone over the possible alternatives several times in the last few days and consulted with the ISMF we have reached the conclusion that there is no choice but to cancel the World Cup Events set to be hosted in Tesino».
With regards to the rest of the World Cup season, the next event due to be held is the Marmotta Trophy on 25th March 2012 in Val Martello.
