The Tour de Pologne is enjoying increased prestige and expanding popularity in Europe.
More and more countries want to co-organize part of the Polish stage race included in the UCI World Tour calendar. The Tour de Pologne has gone beyond Polish borders several times. The 70th anniversary edition started with two stages in Trentino, on the Italian Dolomites. This year a Slovakian stage with the finish in Strbske Pleso was spectacular. And there have also been short visits to the Czech Republic when stages have ended in Cieszyn.
Now Croatia has expressed an interest in co-hosting one of the stages of the increasingly popular Polish stage race. Therefore, in these past few days Czeslaw Lang, the General Director of Lang Team, has been meeting with Sandra Svaljek, First Deputy Mayor of Zagreb, in Zagreb. The meetings have also been attended by Pawel Wlodarczyk, Honorary Consul of Croatia in Krakow, and Tomasz Glogowski, Chairman of the Polish-Croatian Parliamentary Group.
During the meetings, they have been discussing the possibility of Croatia co-hosting one of the stages of the 2016 Tour de Pologne in Zagreb and Opatija – a city closely linked to Poland; Henryk Sienkiewicz, Jozef Pilsudski and Stefan Zeromski all visited here. In 2016 Croatia will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its independence, and co-organization of stage of the Tour de Pologne would lend emphasis to this milestone. All parties involved are working hard and for now talks are still underway.
