It was one of the longest day of this edition of the Dakar, but for the crew of the Toyota Hilux No. 222 it has been much longer than planned. If on Sunday the summary was “We have not had problems” today it has been the opposite and the breakage of the differential ruined the hopes of the Argentinian and the Spanish to be on the podium.

“At kilometer 40 or 42, I don’t know exactly, we were going very fast in sixth and we heard a noise and we didn’t know if it was the box or the differential, and it was the latter that broke. A break without more without having done anything special, it broke directly. We had no choice but to wait for the service truck to change it. We were doing an incredible race and this stage was mine, with a lot of sand and a lot of dunes. Today this should not have happened to us, today it was not part of the game – Right now I am very disappointed, this was our Dakar, there was a lot ahead and every day we were getting better, this should not have happened in the stage we aspired to to be fighting for the lead since we started in an optimal position and after seeing how everyone has gone, we should have been fighting for the stage ”
From now on you have to go back to the fight giving an example of overcoming, like many of those that are given in the Dakar and keep going. Stroking the podium and the next day being more than four hours behind the leader is something that all Dakar participants know can happen, but many are not prepared for such a setback. Lucio and Armand were dejected when they reached the bivouac, but already thinking about tomorrow’s stage.
The spirit of the Dakar must serve as an example of improvement for all fans and those who follow the Dakar only for its human content, and the Lucio / Armand duo are willing to show that both in sport and in life you have to stand up stronger after every setback.

The start for the Wadi Ad-Dawasir loop will be somewhat later than usual, which is good for the team formed by the Argentinian Lucio Álvarez and the Spanish Armand Monleón: the resistance of vehicles and people is in the Dakar always a determining parameter for the Toyota 222 team even more so. It will be a long stage, but above all a stage in which the fight will be to enter the top 20 of the general classification and the effort will be titanic, since they have to recover more than half an hour. Along the route there will be mountains first and then tracks that meander between canyons which will make the piloting different. There will be less sand, but more difficulties when it comes to navigation and it will be necessary to see the broken terrain.
Era una jornada de las más largas de esta edición del Dakar, pero para la tripulación del Toyota Hilux Nº222 ha sido mucho más larga de lo previsto. Si el domingo el resumen fue “No hemos tenido problemas” en la jornada de hoy ha sido todo lo contrario y la rotura del diferencial arruinó las esperanzas del argentino y el español de estar en el podio.
Así se vivió la especial dentro del Toyota Hilux Nº 222
“En el kilómetro 40 o 42, no lo sé exactamente, íbamos muy rápido en sexta y oímos un ruido y no sabíamos si era la caja o el diferencial, y fue éste último el que se rompió. Una rotura sin más sin haber hecho nada especial, se rompió directamente. No tuvimos otro remedio que esperar el camión de asistencia para cambiarlo. Estábamos haciendo una carrera increíble y esta etapa era de las mías, con mucha arena y muchas dunas. Hoy no tenía que habernos pasado esto, hoy no tocaba que esto fuera parte del juego- Ahora mismo estoy muy decepcionado, este era nuestro Dakar, quedaba mucho por delante y cada día íbamos mejor, no tenía que haber sucedido esto en la etapa que aspirábamos a estar luchando por la punta ya que salimos en una posición óptimo y después de ver cómo han ido todos, teníamos que haber estado luchando por la etapa”
A partir de ahora hay que volver a la pelea dando un ejemplo de superación, como muchos de los que se dan en el Dakar y seguir adelante. Acariciar el podio y al día siguiente verse a más de cuatro horas del líder es algo que todos los participantes del Dakar saben que puede ocurrir, pero muchos no están preparados para un revés semejante. Lucio y Armand estaban abatidos al llegar al vivac, pero pensando ya en la etapa de mañana.
El espíritu del Dakar debe servir de ejemplo de superación para todos los aficionados y los que siguen el Dakar solo por su contenido humano, y el dúo Lucio/ Armand están dispuestos a demostrar que tanto en el deporte como en la vida hay que levantarse más fuerte después de cada revés.
La etapa de mañana WADI AD DAWASIR – WADI AD DAWASIR martes 11 de enero de 2022

El pistoletazo de salida para el bucle de Wadi Ad-Dawasir será algo más tarde lo habitual, lo cual viene bien al equipo formado por el argentino Lucio Álvarez y el español Armand Monleón: la resistencia de los vehículos y de las personas es en el Dakar siempre un parámetro determinante ya para el equipo del Toyota 222 aún más. Será una etapa larga, pero sobre todo una etapa en la que la lucha va a estar por entrar entre los 20 primeros de la general y el esfuerzo va a ser titánico, ya que han de recuperar más de media hora. A lo largo del recorrido primero habrá montañas y a continuación pistas que serpentean entre cañones lo que hará que el pilotaje sea diferente. Habrá menos arena, pero más dificultades en lo que atañe a la navegación y habrá que ver lo roto del terreno.
