Birel ART discover Franciacorta
After a season start concentrated on the Lonato track, the second round of the WSK Super Master Series allowed the Birel ART Racing team to enrich its database on a less commonly-used track, that of Franciacorta, where the FIA Karting World Championships will take place next October. The “Red Power” KZ2s once again shone in the face of strong competition. Cristian Bertuca took a good 2nd place and kept his leadership in the championship while four Birel ART drivers finished in the top 10. Kirill Kutskov in OK and Gerasim Skulanov in OK-Junior also performed well on a demanding track.
“We learned a lot during this weekend in Franciacorta,” said Riccardo Longhi, Team Manager and Birel ART Racing KZ2 driver. “It wasn’t always easy because of the record participation in this WSK Super Master Series with some tough on-track battles. We updated our data on a unique circuit where there were many incidents: retirements and penalties often changed the game. Our competi-tiveness was confirmed in KZ2 with Cristian Bertuca’s solid run and Freddie Slater’s great comeback in the top five after his 20th position in Qualifying. Giuseppe Palomba was also in a very good rhythm, but the Final did not go as well as we had hoped. Pedro Hiltbrand and I were delayed in our last heat. I had to retire at the start of the Final while Pedro was penalised because of his front fair-ing. Fortunately, Alessio Piccini in 8th, Daniel Vasile in 10th and Moritz Ebner in 26th kept improving throughout the meeting.
“Kirill Kutskov did an excellent job in OK. He finished 12th in the Final after having to deal with a few contacts and was able to move up 15 places in the championship. Our OK-Junior drivers all had to face withdrawals in the intense battles between the 105 participants. Gerasim Skulanov was the best performer with three good Qualifying Heats. He was on his way to a great comeback in the Final, 14th at mid-race with a gain of 14 places. An incident and a badly positioned front fairing did not al-low him to confirm his position in the standings.
“We will quickly learn from this weekend in Franciacorta to adapt our strategy in view of the two preparatory races for the OK and OK-Junior World Championship which will take place in September. But we will also focus on the next WSK Super Master Series in a fortnight’s time in Sarno where we will have stronger ambitions. We have a strong card to play with our equipment, the 2023 Birel ART S15 chassis being already very competitive”.
Birel ART alla scoperta del circuito Franciacorta
Dopo un inizio di stagione concentrato sulla pista di Lonato, la seconda prova della WSK Super Master Series ha permesso al team Birel ART Racing di arricchire il proprio bagaglio di dati su un tracciato meno frequentato, quello di Franciacorta, dove il prossimo ottobre si svolgeranno i Campionati del mondo FIA Karting. I KZ2 dell’Armata Rossa hanno brillato ancora una volta contro un’agguerrita concorrenza. Cristian Bertuca ha ottenuto un ottimo secondo posto e ha mantenuto la leadership del campionato, mentre quattro piloti Birel ART si sono piazzati nella Top-10. Anche Kirill Kutskov nella OK e Gerasim Skulanov nella OK-Junior hanno fatto delle belle performance su un tracciato impegnativo.
“Abbiamo imparato molto durante questo fine settimana a Franciacorta”, ha dichiarato Riccardo Longhi, Team Manager e pilota KZ2 Birel ART Racing. “Non è stato sempre facile a causa della partecipazione record a questa WSK Super Master Series con alcune dure battaglie in pista. Abbiamo completato i nostri dati su un circuito molto particolare, dove non sono mancati gli incidenti: ritiri e penalità hanno spesso cambiato la situazione. La nostra competitività è stata confermata nella KZ2 con la solida prova di Cristian Bertuca e la bella rimonta di Freddie Slater nella Top-5 dopo la 20ª posizione in qualifica. Anche Giuseppe Palomba aveva un ottimo ritmo, ma la finale non è andata come speravamo. Pedro Hiltbrand e io siamo rimasti indietro nella manche finale. Ho dovuto rinunciare all’inizio della finale, mentre Pedro è stato penalizzato a causa della sua carenatura anteriore. Fortunatamente, Alessio Piccini all’ottavo posto, Daniel Vasile al decimo e Moritz Ebner al 26° hanno fatto progressi costanti per tutta la durata del meeting.
Kirill Kutskov ha svolto un lavoro eccellente nella OK. Ha concluso la finale al 12° posto, dopo aver dovuto gestire alcuni contatti, ed è riuscito a risalire di quindici posizioni in campionato. Nella OK-Junior in nostri piloti hanno tutti dovuto affrontare dei ritiri a causa delle intense battaglie ingaggiate da tutti i 105 partecipanti. Gerasim Skulanov è stato il miglior interprete con tre buone manche di qualificazione. Si stava avviando a una grande rimonta nel finale, 14° a metà gara con un guadagno di quattordici posizioni. Un incidente e poi una carenatura anteriore mal posizionata non gli hanno permesso di confermare la classifica.
Questo week-end a Franciacorta ci ha fornito tanti spunti di riflessione che metteremo in pratica per adattare la nostra strategia in vista delle due prove preparatorie al Campionato del mondo OK e OK-Junior che si svolgeranno a settembre. Ma ci concentreremo anche sulla prossima WSK Super Master Series che si terrà tra quindici giorni a Sarno, dove avremo maggiori ambizioni. Confidiamo totalmente nei nostri kart dato che i telai Birel Art S15 del 2023 sono già molto competitivi.”
Birel ART à la découverte de Franciacorta
Après un début de saison concentré sur la piste de Lonato, la 2e épreuve de la WSK Super Master Series a permis au team Birel ART Racing d’enrichir sa base de données sur un tracé moins fréquenté, celui de Franciacorta où vont se dérouler les Championnats du Monde FIA Karting en octobre prochain. Les KZ2 de la « Red Power » ont encore brillé face à une concurrence élevée. Cristian Bertuca a décroché une belle 2e place et conservé son leadership au championnat tandis que 4 pilotes Birel ART terminaient dans le top 10. Kirill Kutskov en OK et Gerasim Skulanov en OK-Junior ont également réalisé de bonnes performances sur un tracé exigeant.
« Nous avons beaucoup appris durant ce week-end à Franciacorta », déclarait Riccardo Longhi, Team Manager et pilote KZ2 Birel ART Racing. « Cela n’a pas toujours été simple à cause de la participation record à cette WSK Super Master Series avec des affrontements sévères en piste. Nous avons complété nos données sur un circuit très particulier où les incidents n’ont pas manqué : abandons et pénalités ont souvent changé la donne. Notre compétitivité s’est confirmée en KZ2 avec le solide parcours de Cristian Bertuca et la belle remontée de Freddie Slater dans le top 5 après sa 20e position en qualification. Giuseppe Palomba était aussi dans un très bon rythme, mais la finale ne s’est pas déroulée comme nous pouvions l’espérer. Pedro Hiltbrand et moi avons été retardés dans notre dernière manche. J’ai dû renoncer au début de la finale tandis que Pedro était pénalisé à cause de son carénage avant. Heureusement, Alessio Piccini 8e, Daniel Vasile 10e ainsi que Moritz Ebner 26e n’ont cessé de progresser tout au long du meeting.
Kirill Kutskov a fait un excellent travail en OK. Il termine 12e en finale après avoir dû gérer quelques contacts et il a pu remonter de 15 places au championnat. Nos pilotes OK-Junior ont tous été confrontés à des abandons dans les batailles intenses des 105 participants. Gerasim Skulanov a été le plus performant en réussissant notamment trois belles manches qualificatives. Il était parti pour une effectuer une belle remontée en finale, pointé 14e à mi-course avec un gain de 14 places. Un incident puis un carénage avant mal positionné ne lui ont pas permis de confirmer au classement.
Nous allons rapidement tirer les enseignements de ce week-end à Franciacorta pour adapter notre stratégie en vue des deux épreuves préparatoires au Championnat du Monde OK et OK-Junior qui vont se dérouler au mois de septembre. Mais nous allons aussi nous concentrer sur la prochaine WSK Super Master Series dans deux semaines à Sarno où nous aurons des ambitions plus affirmées. Nous avons une pleine confiance dans notre matériel, les châssis Birel ART S15 de 2023 étant déjà très compétitifs ».
