Turisme de Barcelona promotes environmental responsibility in tourism sector

For the third year running and as part of the celebration for World Environment Day (5th June), Turisme de Barcelona is organising a range of activities in Barcelona to promote environmental knowledge and awareness amongst residents, visitors and tourism professionals. World Environment Day is organised by the United Nations and Barcelona city council is joining the celebration.

The campaign, called From Barcelona: Let’s care for the planet, will run from 5th to 14th June. The Tourist information offices in Plaza Cataluña and at the Columbus Monument, as well as the information points in five parks in the province of Barcelona, will distribute information about sustainability in Barcelona and about ideas for activities to make visitors’ stays more sustainable. The Barcelona Tourist Bus will also promote recycling of the headphones that are handed out to users of its service. The campaign’s hashtag on social media is #barcelonacares4theplanet.

The meeting of members of Barcelona Sustainable Tourism, Turisme de Barcelona’s programme to promote sustainable tourism in the city, will take place on 14th June in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA). Xavier Font, reader at Leeds Becket University and co-director of The International Centre for Responsible Tourism, will be the guest speaker at this meeting that is open to everyone.
