Marmolada Grande Guerra, the highest museum in Europe at 3,000 meters above sea level, will be inaugurated on Saturday, June 27, at the Serauta cable car station, just a short distance from the Marmolada glacier.
This World War I museum will amaze visitors with its creativity and ability to offer new food for thought.
Thanks to the meticulous design work of architect Claudine Holstein of G22 Projects Srl and the graphics by Gruppe GUT, a visit to the Marmolada Grande Guerra museum will be an interactive, dynamic and engaging experience that promotes an in-depth understanding of the major themes of the war in the high mountains from the perspective of those directly involved.
The exhibition area of approximately 300 square meters with 12 different environments will feature high-impact displays that immerse the visitor in everyday life during the war fought between the rocks and ice, using diary excerpts, thematic displays, numerous photos and multimedia content to provide a window into the inner life of the soldiers and their time in the trenches. The video room will serve as the culmination of a moving journey.
>From the museum’s large windows, visitors can also admire the Italian and Austro-Hungarian military emplacements, which have recently been made accessible, as well as the walkways that connect them and a spectacular view of some of the most beautiful Dolomite peaks.
Not to be missed, a bit farther up at the Punta Rocca station (3,265 meters), are the panoramic terrace and the cave chapel with the statue of the Madonna consecrated by His Holiness Pope John Paul II. These sites are all easily accessible, including for people with disabilities, by cable car from Malga Ciapéla.
