Barcelona band Inspira just played at the iconic music #festival – here frontman Jordi Lanuza speaks to Red Bull Content Pool about its importance for the music scene, its evolution over the years – and his lasting love for Friday’s headliner Radiohead.
Known as Europe’s biggest music #festival, Primavera Sound takes place in the Catalan city from June 1-5. The 15th edition’s line up sees Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem and PJ Harvey play among over 150 acts performing, music veterans, rising stars and local bands alike.
Exclusive Q&A with Jordi Lanuza, Inspira:
What does Primavera Sound represent for global and local music?
“It’s the most important band gathering in Europe, and an opportunity for bands that aren’t that famous to get exposure beyond their usual audience. A lot more people see you – a lot more than usual. For the local bands, it’s significant to take part, for sure. It’s the opportunity to play alongside bands that are massive. When they offer you to play, you say yes.”
Did it play a role in building the music scene in your city?
“It contributed to building the music scene in #barcelona but it mainly helped with tourism, you know. It was alternative to start with, and it’s a bigger monster every time. I’m not sure it’s directly affecting indie music in #barcelona, though it does bring attention to it. Everything isn’t Primavera in #barcelona, but it’s a point of support.”
What’s your band’s history here?
“It’s the first time for us playing at Primavera Sound at the Parc del Fòrum. We’ve played for the #festival in 2011, but elsewhere. We’re playing at 5pm… but it’s great anyway!
“On the other side, it’s a bit much for me sometimes. You can’t take it all in – there is so much happening! When you’ve seen six bands or more in a day, you get home and you’re struggling to recall all you’ve seen. But if you pick your gigs properly, it can be amazing.”
Last question – who are your favorites this year?
“I really enjoyed Tame Impala’s gig on Thursday, it was great seeing them. The sound quality, the video broadcast, the whole set was impressive.
“LCD Sound System was great too, though I went to bed early to be rested for Friday. And today we’re going to enjoy the Radiohead concert… it’s one of my favorite band! I’ve loved them since I was a child and it’s going to be incredible. We heard their sound check earlier and I can’t wait to see them live.”
