The two days of intense competition went perfectly at the Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve. After a rainy beginning to the week, the Mojo slick tyres gradually came onto the scene on Saturday afternoon during the Prefinals. This made the racing even more competitive, sometimes with some twists and turns, as the participants were preparing for the Finals on Sunday.
Grube masters his subject in DD2 Masters
Henrijs Grube (LVA – Exprit – Team Victoria), who had already taken pole position, led the DD2 Masters Qualifying Heats with two victories. He confirmed his confidence by also winning the Prefinal. Rudy Champion (FRA – Sodi – PKS Compétition), who had until then remained in the leader’s wake, had to face a drop in performance in the Prefinal and it was Slawomir Muranski (POL – Tony Kart – 46 Team) who finished in 2nd position, followed by Romain Mangé (FRA – Tony Kart), who came back well.
DD2 : Besancenez rewarded in the Prefinal
Xander Przybylak (BEL – Tony Kart – Bouvin Power) made perfect progress by winning the three DD2 Qualifying Heats, while Petr Bezel (CZE – Sodi – KSCA Sodi Europe) came back to 2nd position followed by Glenn van Parijs (BEL – Tony Kart – Bouvin Power). In the mixed conditions of the Prefinal, the situation developed well. Paolo Besancenez (FRA – Sodi), who clocked up the 17th fastest time and was 6th in the Qualifying Heats, proved to be irresistible. He won the race with more than three seconds advantage on Bezel, while Xen De Ruwe (SVN – Intrepid – SSC Sportstil) came back from 12th to 3rd position.
Macintyre dominates the Junior heats, Locmelis wins Prefinal A
Poleman after Qualifying Practice, William Macintyre (GBR – Kosmic – KR Sport) showed a strong domination during the heats, where he kept the lead thanks to his perfect score of three victories. Aaron Walker (GBR – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing) made a spectacular comeback from 19th to 2nd position. The consistency of Freddie Spindlow (GBR – Kosmic – KR Sport) earned him 3rd place.
In the Prefinal, on a partially dry track, the scenario was quite different and the tyre strategy was to be important. Walker managed to keep the lead for five laps before crashing. Tim Gerhards (NLD – KR – SP Motorsport) couldn’t resist the return of Patriks Locmelis (LVA – Kosmic – KSB Racing Team) for long before the pace started to change at the end of the race. Tom Braeken (BEL – KR – SP Motorsport) came into the last corner and crossed the finish line 1st. A dropped spoiler sent him back to 6th position and it was Locmelis who was declared the winner. Starting 29th, Daniel Guinchard (GBR – KR – Argenti Motorsport) wasn’t able to take 3rd place because of his spoiler and was 7th. Evan Giltaire (FRA – Sodi – Sodi Vitesse) was therefore 2nd in front of Freddie Spindlow (GBR – Kosmic – KR Sport).
Mini: Hannam in the heats and Jeff-Hall in the Prefinal
The battle was tough during the Mini Qualifying Heats as three different drivers won. Harry Hannam (ARE – MS Kart – DHR) finally overtook Thomas Strauven (BEL – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing) and Ethan Jeff-Hall (GBR – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing). Strauven and Jeff-Hall engaged in a long duel during the Prefinal, while Alexander Skjelten (LVA – Birel ART – National) took the opportunity to come back to the front of the race. Jeff-Hall had the last word against his team-mate Strauven and Skjelten finished 3rd, less than three tenths behind.
Feghali dominates without exception in Micro
Poleman after Qualifying, Christopher Feghali (LBN – KR – DHR) won the three Qualifying Heats and the Micro Prefinal decisively with a comfortable lead. The battle raged behind him, but Max Sadurski (NLD – Energy) didn’t give up the 2nd position to Juliusz Ociepa (POL – Energy – KRK Racing) during the heats or to Jacob Ashcroft (GBR – KR – Dan Holland Racing) in the Prefinal.
Duel at the front between Westover and Porter in the Senior category
Poleman Louie Westover (ESP – Tony Kart – DHR) finished the Qualifying Heats in the lead despite his identical score to Morgan Porter (GBR – KR – Argenti Motorsport), each of them having taken two victories. Clayton Ravenscroft (GBR – Kosmic) followed in 3rd position.
On a nearly dry track, the Prefinal was very tough and there were some exciting battles. The duel continued between Porter and Westover who were fighting for the lead. Porter took the advantage at the end of the race, but Ravenscroft took 2nd place in a rather lively last lap. Mark Kimber (GBR – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing) managed to finish 3rd, while Westover was in 6th position.

Superbes affrontements sportifs dans les manches et les préfinales
Le temps s’est grandement amélioré lors des préfinales du Rotax MAX Challenge International Trophy à Portimão et les variations d’adhérence constatées depuis les manches qualificatives ont donné lieu à des courses aussi passionnantes que sélectives dans toutes les catégories.
Le déroulement des deux journées de compétition intense s’est parfaitement déroulé sur le Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve. Après un début de semaine pluvieux, les pneus Mojo slicks sont progressivement entrés en scène samedi après-midi lors des préfinales. La compétition n’en a été que plus disputée, parfois ponctuée de rebondissements alors que les participants se préparent pour les finales de dimanche.
Grube maîtrise son sujet en DD2 Masters
Déjà auteur de la pole position, Henrijs Grube (LVA – Exprit – Team Victoria) s’est imposé lors des manches qualificatives DD2 Masters en accrochant deux victoires à son tableau de chasse. Il a confirmé son aisance en gagnant également la préfinale. Rudy Champion (FRA – Sodi – PKS Compétition) qui était jusque-là resté dans le sillage du leader a dû affronter une baisse de performances en préfinale et c’est Slawomir Muranski (POL – Tony Kart – 46 Team) qui a terminé en 2e position suivi par Romain Mangé (FRA – Tony Kart), bien remonté.
DD2 : Besancenez récompensé en préfinale
Xander Przybylak (BEL – Tony Kart – Bouvin Power) avait réalisé un parcours parfait en remportant les trois manches qualificatives DD2 tandis que Petr Bezel (CZE – Sodi – KSCA Sodi Europe) revenait en 2e position suivi par Glenn van Parijs (BEL – Tony Kart – Bouvin Power). Sur le terrain mixte de la préfinale, la situation a bien évolué. Auteur du 17e chrono et remonté 6e au cours des manches qualificatives, Paolo Besancenez (FRA – Sodi) s’est révélé irrésistible. Il a en effet gagné la course avec plus de 3 secondes d’avance sur Bezel, tandis que Xen De Ruwe (SVN – Intrepid – SSC Sportstil) revenait de la 12e à la 3e position.
Macintyre domine les manches Junior, Locmelis remporte la préfinale A
Poleman des essais qualificatifs, William Macintyre (GBR – Kosmic – KR Sport) a affiché une belle domination pendant les manches puisqu’il a conservé les commandes grâce à son score parfait de trois victoires. Aaron Walker (GBR – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing) effectuait une remontée spectaculaire de la 19e à la 2e position. La régularité de Freddie Spindlow (GBR – Kosmic – KR Sport) lui valait de pendre la 3e place.
La préfinale proposait un scénario bien différent sur un asphalte partiellement sec où la stratégie des pneumatiques allait avoir son importance Walker réussissait à garder les commandes pendant 5 tours avant de chuter. Tim Gerhards (NLD – KR – SP Motorsport) ne résistait pas longtemps au retour de Patriks Locmelis (LVA – Kosmic – KSB Racing Team) avant que le rythme ne s’emballe en fin de course. Tom Braeken (BEL – KR – SP Motorsport) surgissait dans le dernier virage et franchissait la ligne d’arrivée en premier. Un spoiler décroché le renvoyait en 6e position et c’est Locmelis qui était déclaré vainqueur. Parti 29e, Daniel Guinchard (GBR – KR – Argenti Motorsport) était privé de la 3e place à cause de son spoiler et se retrouvait 7e. Evan Giltaire (FRA – Sodi – Sodi Vitesse) se classait donc 2e devant Freddie Spindlow (GBR – Kosmic – KR Sport).
Mini : Hannam dans les manches et Jeff-Hall en préfinale
La bataille a été sévère au cours des manches qualificatives Mini puisque trois pilotes différents se sont imposés. Harry Hannam (ARE – MS Kart – DHR) a finalement devancé Thomas Strauven (BEL – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing) et Ethan Jeff-Hall (GBR – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing). Strauven et Jeff-Hall se sont livrés à un long duel pendant la préfinale, alors qu’Alexander Skjelten (LVA – Birel ART – National) en profitait pour revenir sur la tête de course. Jeff-Hall a eu le dernier mot face à son équipier Strauven et Skjelten a terminé 3e à moins de 3 dixièmes.
Feghali domine sans partage en Micro
Poleman des chronos, Christopher Feghali (LBN – KR – DHR) a tout simplement remporté les trois manches qualificatives et la préfinale Micro avec une avance confortable. La bataille a fait rage derrière lui, mais Max Sadurski (NLD – Energy) n’a pas lâché la 2e position aussi bien face à Juliusz Ociepa (POL – Energy – KRK Racing) pendant les manches que devant Jacob Ashcroft (GBR – KR – Dan Holland Racing) lors de la préfinale.
Duel au sommet entre Westover et Porter en Senior
Le poleman Louie Westover (ESP – Tony Kart – DHR) a terminé les manches qualificatives en leader malgré son score identique à celui de Morgan Porter (GBR – KR – Argenti Motorsport), chacun ayant remporté deux victoires. Clayton Ravenscroft (GBR – Kosmic) suivait en 3e position.
Sur une piste pratiquement sèche, la finale a donné lieu à de belles bagarres. Le duel s’est poursuivi entre Porter et Westover qui se disputaient la première place. Alors que Porter prenait l’avantage en fin de course, Ravenscroft s’emparait de la 2e position dans un dernier tour plutôt agité. Mark Kimber (GBR – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing) parvenait à terminer 3e tandis que Westover se retrouvait au 6e rang.
