The 2017 edition of the GSMA Mobile World Congress, which has once again positioned Barcelona as the mobile and apps capital, receiving major backing and support from Turisme de Barcelona, will be remembered for the record number of one hundred participating Catalan companies and a programme of events open to the general public in the city’s 10 districts.
Turisme de Barcelona co-sponsored YoMo, The Youth Mobile Festival, a science and technology exhibition targeting young people and designed to highlight the career opportunities in the mobile ecosystem and STEAM sector. YoMo events included live theatre performances, interactive workshops and dozens of practical events for all young people, which reached average participation levels of 20,000 schoolchildren from Catalonia and Spain.
The Consortium also led and financed the ‘Ambassadors’ programme, a brand new service designed to provide delegates with personalised information about the city and the MWC. The ‘ambassadors’ or information officers were trained to offer solutions for delegates’ queries or needs and were stationed in the various hotels that hosted Congress participants. Turisme de Barcelona also held a series of meetings with the hotels that received the largest number of delegates to address issues relating to safety and mobility.
