Fought at 100% intensity on a dry track and in mixed conditions, the Finals showed the extraordinary competitiveness of the Rotax categories with top level participants coming from all over the world, despite a not particularly favourable health situation, before rewarding the big winners.
Neither the rainy weather nor the infection-control constraints affected the morale of the 229 drivers from 34 nationalities who converged on southern Portugal to take part in the second edition of the Rotax MAX Challenge International Trophy from 8th to 13th December, 2020. BRP-Rotax and 3MK Events would like to thank them for their presence and enthusiasm and look forward to seeing them in August 2021 in Le Mans.
Micro: Lebanon in the spotlight with Feghali
Christopher Feghali (LBN – KR – DHR) had a perfect competition in Micro. The Final victory confirmed his talent which had been expressed without exception since practice. But the competition was tough, especially with Jacob Ashcroft (GBR – KR – Dan Holland Racing), Mees Houben (NLD – Exprit – GKS Lemmens Power) and Max Sadurski (NLD – Energy) as strong opponents.

Mini: a convincing victory for Skjelten
Several drivers shone in Mini. Ethan Jeff-Hall (GBR – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing), Thomas Strauven (BEL – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing), Harry Hannam (ARE – MS Kart – DHR) and Alexander Skjelten (LVA – Birel ART – National) were often at the forefront. Jeff-Hall and Skjelten fought long and hard for the Final victory before the latter won against Hannam and Strauven.

Juniors: Guinchard wins a Final interrupted by rain
Starting on a dry track, the Junior Final saw some close battles and twists and turns. Freddie Spindlow (GBR – Kosmic – KR Sport) led the early part of the race until Daniel Guinchard (GBR – KR – Argenti Motorsport) took the lead on lap 4. When the rain appeared, 11 laps had been covered and the Race Director was able to wave the red flag on the next lap to avoid incidents with slick tyres on a very slippery track. Behind Guinchard, Aaron Walker (GBR – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing) was able to take advantage of his incredible comeback from 22nd to 2nd position, whereas William Macintyre (GBR – Kosmic – KR Sport) had regained nine places to 3rd place.

Senior: Porter takes the victory on the last lap
After winning the Prefinal, Morgan Porter (GBR – KR – Argenti Motorsport) also took the victory in the Final. But things weren’t easy on Sunday afternoon. After a short rain shower, the choice of suitable tyres divided the drivers. Although slicks were ultimately the best option, the grip remained limited in some places and the race was very animated with at least six different leaders and many passes. Rhys Hunter (GBR – FA Kart – DHR) was in the lead for the first two laps, then Porter briefly took the lead before being overtaken by Mark Kimber (GBR – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing). Kai Hunter (GBR – Tony Kart – DHR) then interrupted the domination of Kimber who came back to 1st place. A very intense last lap allowed Porter to take the victory by 4 tenths ahead of Sean Butcher (GBR – Kosmic – KR Sport), while Kimber took 3rd place.

DD2: Przybylak finds his way back to success
After having been dominated in the Prefinal, Xander Przybylak (BEL – Tony Kart – Bouvin Power) took back the lead in the Final of the DD2 category. He took over from Paolo Besancenez (FRA – Sodi) after several front row battles on the fourth lap. He then had to maintain a good pace in order not to fall under threat from Petr Bezel (CZE – Sodi – KSCA Sodi Europe). For a long time 3rd, Xen De Ruwe (SVN – Intrepid – SSC Sportstil) couldn’t resist an attack from Besancenez on the last lap.

Grube dominates to the end in DD2 Masters
Leader of the Qualifying Heats and winner of the Prefinal, Henrijs Grube (LVA – Exprit – Team Victoria) progressively detached himself from his opponents to take a clear Final victory with more than 3,5″ of advantage. Romain Mangé (FRA – Tony Kart) was in 2nd position since the first lap, and Slawomir Muranski (POL – Tony Kart – 46 Team) had to overtake Thierry De Jong (NLD – Kosmic) to take 3rd place.

Des finales incroyables pour clore la 2e édition du RMCIT
La dernière journée du Rotax MAX Challenge International Trophy 2020 n’a pas été avare en spectacle et rebondissements sur le Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve. Disputées à 100 % sur une piste sèche ou dans des conditions mixtes, les finales ont démontré l’extraordinaire compétitivité des catégories Rotax avec des participants de haut niveau venus du monde entier malgré une situation sanitaire peu favorable avant de récompenser de grands vainqueurs.
Ni le temps pluvieux ni les contraintes sanitaires n’ont entamé le moral des 229 pilotes en provenance de 34 nationalités qui ont convergé vers le sud du Portugal pour participer à la 2e édition du Rotax MAX Challenge International Trophy du 8 au 13 décembre 2020. BRP-Rotax et 3MK Events tiennent à les remercier pour leur présence et leur enthousiasme et leur donnent rendez-vous en août 2021 au Mans.
Micro : le Liban à l’honneur avec Feghali
Christopher Feghali (LBN – KR – DHR) a réussi une compétition parfaite en Micro. La victoire finale a confirmé son talent exprimé sans faillir depuis les essais. La concurrence était pourtant rude notamment du côté de Jacob Ashcroft (GBR – KR – Dan Holland Racing), Mees Houben (NLD – Exprit – GKS Lemmens Power) et Max Sadurski (NLD – Energy) qui ont été des adversaires redoutables.

Mini : une victoire convaincante pour Skjelten
Plusieurs pilotes ont brillé en Mini. Ethan Jeff-Hall (GBR – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing), Thomas Strauven (BEL – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing), Harry Hannam (ARE – MS Kart – DHR) ou encore Alexander Skjelten (LVA – Birel ART – National) ont souvent occupé les avant-postes. Jeff-Hall et Skjelten se sont longuement affrontés pour la victoire finale avant que ce dernier ne s’impose face à Hannam et Strauven.

Junior : Guinchard vainqueur d’une finale interrompue par la pluie
Partie sur une piste sèche, la finale Junior a connu des batailles serrées et des rebondissements. Freddie Spindlow (GBR – Kosmic – KR Sport) a mené le début de course jusqu’à ce que Daniel Guinchard (GBR – KR – Argenti Motorsport) ne prenne les rennes au 4e tour. Lorsque la pluie a fait son apparition, 11 tours avaient été couverts et la direction de course a pu agiter le drapeau rouge au passage suivant afin d’éviter les incidents en pneus slicks sur une piste très glissante. Derrière Guinchard, Aaron Walker (GBR – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing) a pu profiter de son incroyable remontée de la 22e à la 2e position, tandis que William Macintyre (GBR – Kosmic – KR Sport) avait repris 9 places au 3e rang.

Senior : Porter s’adjuge la victoire dans le dernier tour
Après avoir remporté la préfinale, Morgan Porter (GBR – KR – Argenti Motorsport) s’est également imposé lors de la finale. Les choses n’ont cependant pas été simples dimanche après-midi. Après une courte averse, le choix des pneumatiques adaptés divisait les participants. Si les slicks représentaient finalement la meilleure option, l’adhérence restait limitée à certains endroits et la course a été très animée avec au moins 6 leaders différents et de nombreux dépassements. Rhys Hunter (GBR – FA Kart – DHR) bouclait les deux premiers tours en tête, puis Porter menait brièvement avant d’être relayé par Mark Kimber (GBR – Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing). Kai Hunter (GBR – Tony Kart – DHR) interrompait ensuite la domination de Kimber qui revenait à la 1re place. Un dernier tour particulièrement intense permettait à Porter de s’imposer pour 4 dixièmes devant Sean Butcher (GBR – Kosmic – KR Sport), tandis que Kimber prenait la 3e place.

DD2 : Przybylak retrouve le chemin du succès
Après avoir été dominé lors de la préfinale, Xander Przybylak (BEL – Tony Kart – Bouvin Power) a repris les commandes dans la finale de la catégorie DD2. Il prenait le relais de Paolo Besancenez (FRA – Sodi) après plusieurs affrontements aux avant-postes au 4e tour. Il devait ensuite maintenir un bon rythme pour ne pas tomber sous la menace de Petr Bezel (CZE – Sodi – KSCA Sodi Europe). Longtemps 3e, Xen De Ruwe (SVN – Intrepid – SSC Sportstil) ne parvenait pas à résister à l’attaque de Besancenez dans le dernier tour.

Grube domine jusqu’au bout en DD2 Masters
Leader des manches qualificatives et vainqueur de la préfinale, Henrijs Grube (LVA – Exprit – Team Victoria) s’est progressivement détaché de ses adversaires pour remporter une nette victoire finale avec plus de 3,5’’ d’avance. Romain Mangé (FRA – Tony Kart) s’est maintenu en 2e position depuis le 1er tour tandis que Slawomir Muranski (POL – Tony Kart – 46 Team) devait dépasser Thierry De Jong (NLD – Kosmic) pour assurer la 3e place.
