Tras la decepción que supuso la avería en el diferencial que les hizo perder casi cuatro horas, la tripulación del Toyota Hilux Nº 222 se lanzó a la pista con un entusiasmo renovado para demostrar que merecían ese puesto en el podio que estuvieron acariciando durante 8 etapas de esta edición del Dakar.
La jornada fue de esas en las que es muy complicado recuperar terreno, ya que era muy rápida y al ser corta las diferencias no podían ser muy grandes, sin embargo, el equipo hispano argentino se alzó hasta el puesto 13 de la etapa en el último control que pasaron a solo 4’43” del líder De Villiers. En los últimos 45 kilómetros de la especial Lucio y Armand cedieron casi cinco minutos más debido a un pinchazo y unas vibraciones en la transmisión que les hicieron levantar el pie en los últimos kilómetros, terminando la etapa 18º de la general a 9’34 del ganador lo que les deja en el puesto 22º de la general.

“Había que sobreponerse a la adversidad. El problema del diferencial nos quitó la oportunidad de estar entre los cinco primeros pero seguimos para adelante. Lo importante es levantarse cada vez más fuerte de estos “golpes”. La etapa de hoy era muy rápida, mucho. Al margen de ir a fondo y de un pinchado en el final, no había mucho que destacar. Sentimos unas vibraciones en la transmisión, que parece que no son nada ya que ahora que están verificando el coche y está bien, pero cuando vas a fondo y sientes que algo comienza a vibrar y después de lo que nos pasó ayer, se te vienen mil historias a la cabeza. Piensas, ¡No puede ser otra vez! y afortunadamente no fue nada parece ser, pero eso ya te hace levantar un poco el pie, y después cualquier piedra de las muchas que golpean el coche por debajo es un sobresalto, pero esto es el Dakar, vas de sobre salto en sobresalto. Volviendo un poco al percance de ayer quiero dejar esta instantánea y es que en el Dakar no todo es pilotaje, especialmente cuando surge algún problema. Ayer lunes tuvimos que practicar mecánica, metidos debajo del Toyota, sacando la transmisión para que cuando llegara el camión de asistencia les llevara menos tiempo la reparación Esto también es el “encanto” del Dakar, pero con un cabreo…”
Así fue la etapa del día
Km 0 – En mesetas por pistas a veces paralelas y muy arenosas. Estas pistas entraban progresivamente dentro de valles y cañones con algunas zonas trialeras.
Km 140 – Corto paso por dunas
Km 150 – Navegación difícil entre ríos secos y valles muy pintorescos
Km 200 –Paso de dunas un poco más blandas que en otros días
Km 220 – Llegando al final pistas rápidas con arena y algún valle pedregoso que provocó el pinchazo de un neumático que resultó bastante dañado. Después circulación complicada en el enlace para llegar al vivac. El viento había casi borrado las pistas que estaban cubiertas de arena y a veces eran muy difíciles de distinguir. Se acabaron las lluvias, todo seco y con las dunas más blandas.

Se trata de una especial dedicada a la belleza, con unas variaciones de relieve y de colores que dejarán maravillados a los competidores de principio a fin. El placer para la vista se verá acompañado por el placer de conducir, con una media que será, sin duda alguna, de las más elevadas. Pero no conviene precipitarse por culpa de la velocidad, sobre todo porque los pilotos tendrán que lidiar con un gran número de cruces de pistas, marca de la casa en Arabia Saudí.

Km 200 – Dune pass
