On June 24th, Barcelona became the French sporting capital, when the final of the French Rugby League (LNR) was held in Camp Nou to an audience of 99,124 spectators.
This broke a new record in spectator figures for matches between rugby clubs. Racing 92 beat Toulon in the final by 29 to 21.
Turisme de Barcelona had a tourism information point in the FAN Zone to assist supporters of both teams interested in visiting the city. It also offered a 10% discount on the price of the Barcelona Bus Turístic (Barcelona Tourist Bus) and Barcelona Card Express for ticketholders to the rugby match, as well as providing information on Barcelona on the rugby league website.
Together with football, rugby is the French nation’s favourite sport. The Vilafranca Castellers also took part in the event, building a human tower eight rings high, with three people in each central ring, to the applause of all the spectators. Ex Barcelona football player Éric Abidal presented the trophy for the best player in the final to New Zealander Dan Carter.
